  • RIP most powerful forehand on tour. He'll be missed in the tennis world

  • its freaky how large his right arm is compared to his left...

  • grande feñita pro el chino siempre sera el mejor

  • jeez compare his right forearm to his left one..

  • Parece zoologico la weá.

  • @claudioegalaz jajajaja en too caso

  • nice foot speed.

  • 0:40 DID U SEE THAT FOREHAND..

  • @ionoMyName

No we didn't. It was too fast

  • Everytime he hits the ball it's almost like he's propelling the ball on with his shouts. I love the bit at the end where he goes 'aaaaaaaarh!'. Crazy guy.

    Never see Federer do that!

  • send this guy to the middle east. He could wipe out Al Queda with his forehand.

  • you should make a video of him hitting from the back perspective.

  • rofl he was running so fast it looked like they speed it up

  • i adore him. i hope he doesn't retire anytime soon.

  • Why isn't he at the Open?

  • his foot speed was great!

  • Can anyone tell what grip he's using? Looks like true semi-western to me. In addition, is his index finger separated ('trigger finger'), or not?

  • @TennisStud118 Pretty sure its Semi Western, he hits nice and flat with reasonable spin, thats why his forehands the best in the game ^^

  • Gonzo.....where are you now??

  • Feña is very old and he manage to stay in the top.

I think that he will retire in the top 20 or after winning the gold medal in the next olimpics.

  • FEÑA!!

  • Its the Babolat Pure Storm

  • which racquet is that?

  • what a lovely grunt lol

  • This is the best player I had a chance to watch live (not counting Federer), and I saw almost all of top 10.

He is a joy to watch, really.

Only pushing forward with 100% of his strenght, and that is what makes tennis an interesting game, not Murray and especially not those "big servers".

This is of course, just my opinion

  • @ajvanhovic agreed. i feel ppl who dnt put there all in a match are garbage.

  • are u sure murray and the "big servers" arent giving there all. I mean, they are top ranked for a reason. Alot of people dont show it, but they actually do give it there all

  • The "big servers" have put in hours of practice to get where they are. Their game may not be flashy, but in order to survive in the top these days one must have a big serve. And as for Murray, everyone has their own playing styles- he may not be the most aggresive player and he may annoy the crap out of me, but I respect his style of game.

As for not going at 100%, Nikolay Davydenko comes to mind...

  • winner after winner! not much play here =D

  • He's messing around during these shots right? I like that last one where he took 500 steps and ran to the other side of the court.

  • amazing arm strength....

  • @maximilian533

    Arm speed rather

  • @maximilian533 They call him La Mano Piedra - The Stone Hand

  • See how he winds up his body to put more power into the shot? I gotta do that a lot more.

  • awesome player to watch!! i saw him in the 1st round of the US this morning. he is extremely quick, his groundstrokes the biggest on the tour and his legs are built like tree trunks. i reckon this guy could threaten any of the top ten. he's also a great character. on one occasion, he returned serve and just turned his back on his opponent because he was disappointed with the return! in the middle of a point!

  • GONZO GONZO GONZO

here in usa me and my friends kinda do a draft of tennis players u get like 5 of your choice aside from nadal and federer on ur team and i picked gonzo, roddick, stepanik, karlovich and hewitt

  • is he using semi-western

  • he looks really quick. could just be the standard speed of the top level pros though

  • once I saw him on the first class of a plane, then I got his autograph =)

  • that forehand has to be the biggest shot in tennis

  • I'd give that honor to the Karlovic serve. The guy can win matches with one stroke, it's crazy.

  • well if we're gonna include serves then its gotta be roddick. karlovic's serve isnt actually THAT quick, usually high 130-140 mph but its soooooo effective becoz it comes down from about ten feet up. its the bounce more than the pace that is so hard to handle. but its definitely one of the biggest shots

  • Yeah I know I watched him play live and it's basically a serve from another planet... or stratosphere considering how tall Ivo is. I think Karlovic once hit a serve a couple miles short of Andy's 155 mph, out wide, which if it went down the middle would have broken the record for sure.

  • yeh probably. its weird how the fastest servers arent the strongest (physically). it makes u wonder: why cant nadal serve a bit faster??? lets be honest his serve is one of the slowest out there. he relies too heavily on his groundstrokes and the really good opponents are starting to get used to them (hence his defeat by djokovic last night). he needs to add another dimension to his game. his serve, volleys and returns need to be improved

  • the other players don't get used to his shots.

nadal just did oine big fault, he changed his groundstrokes to be more effective on hard court and therefore his shots haven't got as much topspin anymore.

That's why his opponents start to be able to play with him.

You're right, he needs to improve his volleys and serve to be successful again.

Or he could just go back to his old game,

with his monster spin and be sure he'll win the French Open for the next 5 years; but i'm sure he won't.

  • i think he's still putting the same amount of spin on it but this simply isnt effective on hard courts, hence defeats to the flatter hitters like djokovic and of course del potro. i dont think its because he hits with less spin nowadays; he's never really had fantastic success on hard courts

  • no just look up some really old slow motion vids of his forehand and then some of his now forehand.

It's a big difference, believe me

  • actually i remember a video i saw of him practicing at the US open a few days ago and he was hitting it noticeably flatter come to think of it. how come he lost to del potro if he has adapted his game to suit hard courts a bit more? i understand what you're saying but it doesnt seem to have made much difference in matches

  • his muscles are used to his topspin shots. When you hit the ball flatter, other muscles need to work: when you hit a ball with extreme topspin, you need to have a strong biceps, if you hit it flatter, your abdominal muscles need to work much more. And that's his biggest problem, he isn't that strong in the abdominal area and he probably got a pulling there during his match against Almagro.

  • A real entertainer this guy not only funny and good, but his sheer power means he can smash winners from anywhere as we all know, which frankly I love as it keeps you on the edge of your seat . I'll echo '

bettykitten2233' we English like every other country do love watching Gonzo. Forehando Gonzalez I salute you.

  • I'm English and we love Gonzo, he has an amazing personality, unlike the ever so BORING personality of our own Andy Murray :( xx

  • murray hasnt done anything charismatic in his life

  • ur mom hasnt done anything charismatic in her life

  • u must be really intelligent...

so what has murray done that is charismatic??

  • he gets pumped up when he's winning matches...thats charisma duh

  • everyone gets pumped when they win matches! are u expecting murray to be displeased when he wins matches?? the days of "You cannot be serious!!" and other on-court antics seem to be over. tennis players show their charisma (or lack of it) off the court. djokovic, federer, roddick, nadal and gonzalez are charismatic. murray is not

  • wut charismatic things have djokovic federer roddick nadal and gonzalez done that murray hasnt?

  • djokovic and roddick do impersonations and always make jokes in press conferences. federer and nadal are very open about themselves and are humorous as well. gonzalez is crazy. he breaks his racquets, argues with umpires and is generally very entertaining to watch

  • You would be surprised on having known some things about Gonzalez. One day was leading his Porsche for the freeway and it stopped to gather a hasty dog. It raised it to the car and took it to an emergency center. They all in Chile know that. Forgive my poor english, please.

  • @AlWat870

Yeah, I'm pretty sure Soderling, Berdych and Del Potro gonna pass him really soon

  • @AlWat870 Haha as if u did!

  • @AlWat870 Know him well do you? I bet you think he slagged off the England football team too.....

  • Y te apuesto que la mayoría de los weones que han posteado son chilenos y toos como weones hablando inglés jajajaja (me incluyo)

  • jajAjajjAJjaj WN taba pensando la misma weá xD

  • Uhmmm it's hard to say. Rios was nº1 and won 5 master series, Gonzalez has won 3 olympic medals, but Gonzalez has way much heart than Rios. I don't know, I'm proud of both of them

  • Gonzalez is just brilliant. he's such an entertaining player.

  • Can you make a video of fernando hitting forehands in Slow motion??? I´ll like to see them

  • Even the double players on the court next to him are closely watching Gonzo, nobody wants to miss one of his spectacular shots.

  • this guy's forehand is absolutely a beast. It has been clocked up to 115mph.

  • How fast is this dude? Watch him run from 1:00 to the end of the video. That's some Speedy Gonzalez for you.

  • :43 wow

  • I think he's only fooling around, having fun.

U can tell that at the end of the video, when he runs almost all the way to the next court

    GRANDE FEÑA!!!

  • so which racquet does he exactly use? pure storm or pure storm ltd. or what? on the babolat site it says he uses pure storm original. o_o

  • Before the pure storm, he used to play with a pure control.

Last year someone ask him on ESPN-onLine about the raquet that he plays with, and he said "all these years i been using the same raquet" doesn't say wich one. So, i'm 99% sure that he plays with the old pure control.

  • oh okay, thanks for that =)

  • He actually uses a pure storm (orange) new (sorta) model not the old ones the old ones had a sorta upgrade, now at the french hes sporting some new model that i cant seem to find anywhere

  • babolat aero storm since RG

  • it's not an aero storm, the neck of the raquet is flat. Google the new pure storm and you will se that babolat change the colors of the raquet, same thing that happened with the pure drive.

But the thing that i'm tring to explain, is that fernando gonzalez play's with the old pure control using a pure storm paintjob. The pure control isn't available in the normal market. You will be able to find more information about this theory in the tennistalk forum... that's quite interesting

    greetings!

  • i read it in the newspaper, i'm from chile, and the raquet is an aero storm

  • Dude, this is pointless without proof... check this video of fernando's raquet in slow-mo at 00:53 -awGIp8aMeI

flat neck... not an aero model..

and man, i'm chilean too, and i don't believe in the media, especially when they talk about tennis... those guys know nothing. The other day the guy from the news was just too exicted because "fernando gonzalez was warming up with rafael nadal" DUDE, THAT HAPPENS ALL THE BLOODY TIME!!

  • ah your a Chilean i'd like to see if you agree with me on this. I think Gonzo is better than Rios ever was perhaps not as consistent but i still think he is better all-round, Your thought?

  • grande feña

  • it looks almost as if hes using the pure storm tour without the pure storm paint job cause it looks really red instead of orange. mabey its just the lighting

  • can you put up some slow motion video of his forehand, that would be sweet!!!

  • 0:42 ...the strongest drive in the world...he's great

  • hes trying to hard

  • tennis is all about trying hard?

  • im aware, been playing foreverrrrr... just pointing out all the others in their warm up start out kinda just slow and relaxed he jumps right into it, with the grunting and all

  • he seems to be standing too far from the baseline even during practice.

  • He has to with such a huge backswing.

  • lol good ending
