Howard Florey was the man who actually invented the world first antibiotic. Alexander Flemming wrote an article about his petri dish observation in a medical journal, and it certainly was not an award winning acheivment, yet took all the glory when many years later Howard Florey invented the first anitbotic for human use. True Story :)

100% Correct! Unable to see its true potential he discarded it and moved on. With the advent of antibiotics, he kicked up such a stink, courted the Americans, and connived his way into a Nobel Prize ... Florey & Chain et al worked systematically & tirelessly to produce the first effective antibiotic.
