John Deere 1939B Starting "Uncle Earl" - 2

That is a 65 Chevy half ton truck.

My dad bought that truck new late in 1965 for $1,700.

The truck was dark green with a tan interior.

Truck is now "retired" and just sits idle here on the farm.

We have a 43B with an electric start.

I always open the petcocks on the bottom of the block before cranking.

My guess is that there is too much compression with the petcocks closed on a hand crank tractor.

We also have a 48A with petcocks on the bottom of the block.

I never bother to open them; tractor starts without any problem.

can you start a mid styled b like this with the petcocks closed or does it build up to much compression because i know unstyled b's never had petcocks unless you modified them on it

Thanks for the compliment on "Uncle Earl".

Just cleaned it up some; it is a "working" tractor as shown in a couple other videos.

Got an comment last week from another member that his father, Earl, was a previous owner.

slow and easy does it every time. Lots of people have told me that. I get a kick out of the people who just crank that fly-wheel like there is no tomorrow. Very nice B looks beautiful
