  • I agree with you. I'm 34, and I'm sometimes shocked when I see really young girls on here, doing make up tutorials and hauls.

When I was 11 or 14 or whatever, I was outside playing with my friends, till the sun went down.

I blame it on the internet and tv, showing unrealistic images of beauty. When you're young, maybe insecure, and impressionable it's easy to think that, that is how you're supposed to look. It's sad.

Be a kid, and go outside and play, you'll grow up soon enough.

  • i am 12 and i start doing makeup seeing u but now i gonna leave it n concentrate on study more really nice messege

  • Where are you from, or wha tis your accent? I'm guessing German or Swedish... (:

  • @ReachingOutForGOD you can watch a video about this thing on this channel: she grew up mostly in canada and now she lives in switzerland :)

  • Hey Julia can you actually upload some videos of you doing some volunteer work?

  • Thanks Julia I think all of you gurus, have some responsability over your audience and i am glad you are down to earth. You like nice stuff like all of us but same time cultivate principles and values. i am just so terrified to read some of the comments. Please post more stuff like that. People listen to you.

  • When you said young 20 year olds I was shocked because you really don't look older than 27!

  • this was really sweet and heartfelt! <3

  • word!

  • I just liked makeup when I was in high school, but I only wore foundation, concealer and mascara because my eyelashes are blonde and my skin isn't very good. I started wearing full on looks almost every day in my freshmen year of college and now I'm a junior... I'm a lot more comfortable in my skin right now. I can wear absolutely no makeup and realize that no one is going to notice my discoloration, they're probably worried about more important things! I do love wearing makeup though. :)

  • well said

  • You're so wise Julia, I agree with you completely!

  • im 8 and i want to be like u because u get more privlige over your life and makeup and life and u get to do facebook and enter in makeup contests so thats y

  • You're definitely too young for makeup, hun. You shouldn't be worrying about things like makeup, you're just a little girl.

  • Totally agree with you :)

  • In my "world," living near Los Angeles, every girl has to be skinny, beautiful, and have all the top brand clothes. You have to cuss, have your ears pierced at LEAST, and in the end some girls that can't do this, and then don't " fit in." It is so hard being pressured to be so perfect......

  • i'm a teen who loves makeup. for me, i'd like to say it's more of hobby/art form i do. i feel prettier and more confident when i go out with makeup. unfortunately i'm not too confident with how i look w/o it. especially cuz my skin can either look really good or really bad. i know makeup isn't the only thing that matters in life, but it's something i love and boosts my confidence

  • two words! AMAZING PERSON:)

  • i'd tap that

  • Hey Julia, a lot of my friends wear makeup to impress certain people in my high school (specifically the boys). But I wouldn't do that. I wear makeup because I think it's fun to put on and I just love the way I look afterwards. I do it for myself. Not for others =]

  • Hi Julia! I really liked your sincire video. You always come accross as a down to earth person. Keep up the good work, and sorry for my spelling mistakes, I'm no good without my spellchecker. :)

    Dia

  • [...]And there are a lot of funny things to do (sports, music, dance, read, etc) and prepare your future. to be frank, I am happy now to have work and not spend all my time and the little money, I had on make up and clothes. Because now I have a good job and a good salary and I can spend my money as I want (traveling, make up, books, musics, clothes, car, apartment, restaurants, etc.)!So work &get a good job. Enjoy your youth but keep this in your mind. there are a lot of simple things to enjoy.

  • you don't need to go to poor countries. I live in Europe. my father was a worker. He worked hard to earn a little. so, we would not have money to buy all those make up and clothes. How you look like is important (to feel good and to give a good impression), but you don't need to spend a lot. Women in "poor" countries usually take care of herselves using cheap things (fruits, vegetables, sugar, natural stuffs, their "grandmother recipes" and hand-made clothes, make up, etc).

  • the pink suits you well!!

  • i could not have said it better myself! i am 16 and wish more people would realize how much more life is. real experiences, such as traveling, bungee jumping, or writing, are far more important in life. they shape you as person from the inside, which is where your real beauty lies.

  • {...} About youtube for me it's not a pressure or a bad influence but it played an important role in my life as it helped me - I'm a shy girl - to open myself and acquire a fixed mature personality (well it's still in the building process :P). It's true though that the media specially movies put pressure on youngsters... I know sometimes I can feel much obsessed with makeup but it never led me away from my studies - always get good grades :) anyway good job julia <3 luv what you do! :)

  • I'm 16 and I love makeup but it's only a hobby for me, to be able to express myself, just like I also love writing :) I rarely put makeup to go out and your videos are only an entertainment cuz personally I don't like copying ideas - I prefer to think out makeup styles by myself and I play like that at home only. I bought an expensive eyeshadow only once - for my birthday but that's all! For the other makeup things my mother already has em so we just share... :) {...}

  • I totally agree with you

  • I really understand where you're coming from. but I'm 15 (nearly 16). I decided when I was 3 that i wanted to be a vet, when I was 7 I decided that i wanted to specialise and become an equine vet. By the time was 11, I had decided which university I want to study at, and which course I want to do. I find make up helps me to focus and relax, and to think. I do love applying makeup same as you, but I don't want a career with anything to do with it. xxx

  • I completely agree and understand where your comin from. I respect it 100%. Girls should already know independence is key to bein a woman aside from material possesions. Pride in knowledge and well rounded sense of self should be a huge principle from young women not possesions.

  • Agreed, thank you for your videos, I couldn't have said it any better, theres more to life then materialistic things, keep up the great work :)

  • I'm 17, and personally I think that younger girls, shouldn't care about what they look like to other people, they should feel confident in their own skin..now I'm not saying I don't wear make-up, because I do, but when you're young, you're suppose to enjoy your childhood, not worry about whose got the best clothes or looks the best.

  • I'm only 16 and I have a ton of makeup products and I just love trying out new looks. But the thing about me, is that I don't care enough to actually wake up early and do my hair or my makeup. I put my mascara on in the car and my go-to hair look is my short hair, down and natural. I love makeup, but I don't think it's appropriate for me to be wearing full on looks everyday. Plus, it takes too much time ;)

  • Great video Julia.. I agree with what you're saying.

  • You are a beautiful person, inside and out :) I wish there were more people like you ! <3

  • So, to young girls & teens: you have to try new experiences, it is good to do it. But dnt OVER do it. You know, doing makeup is fun, I enjoy it so much. But it is not ALL you have to think about... Look at the blue sky or the green leaves or the white snow and think "wow. they are pure, and they are so beautiful". Beautiful is inside. If you are ugly inside, makeup won't help you, it will show your ugliness. So be happy, try makeup if you want, but DO NOT get obsessed! :) Love you all,

    Sarah

  • OMG I remember when I was 12, hiding my makeup in my schoolbag to do my makeup there bcause my mom didnt want me to wear makeup and I looked HORRIBLE haha XD I'm now 17, I've always liked makeup (I actually love to dress up so... xD) and I've decided to be a makeup artist. But you know, I have so many other hobbies. I enjoy reding a good book, watching a good film, cooking, drawing, chatting with friends and even draming about fairies and nature haha XD

  • it's so good to hear that make up isn't everything from a make up youtuber. my mum always wore make up when she went to work and stuff, but she never overdid it (and still doesn't). when i started using make up in my teens, I looked HORRIBLE, seriously. my mum was patient as an angel, not saying anything, and see, after a few months i figured out how can support nature without looking like a clown :) i think that's part of puberty. it's not only about talking to your kids, it's SHOWING.

  • I'm in high school... People are different. I don't know why they want to be so pretentious about their looks. I don't think of myself as better, but I'd have to say I'm a tad bit more mature.

I'd also have to say that education is falling in the U.S. People at school ARE sucked into other people, and don't care about school, and care more about the social aspect of school.

  • when they get older like maybe in their early teens like 15 but not so much but more like in their 20s. i dont think looks are all that important, and it is true its more diffcult this days for young girls.

  • i know this video was posted up a year ago but i just saw this video and i thought i should say what i think about today's world. I think little girls are growing up way to fast. Some little girls that are like 10-12 dress in clothes that little girls didn't really dress in back in the days. i was born in the 80s, and i didn't really see little girls dress in tights, skinny jeans like they do now. like let them be little kids and live with no worries on how they look let them worry about that

  • i think a healthy view of makeup is to think of it as something fun to do or to compliment your natural beauty, sort of like dressing up. i dont think it's healthy to feel like you have to wear it or you'll be ugly. some girls are so used to faces with makeup that they can't appreciate the natural beauty of a bare face. i personally love the purples and pinks around the eyes, and how eyelashes look without mascara. we are human beings and that's beautiful- no enhancement needed :)

  • I'm 16, and i want to study psicology, and people had told me that i have talent for painting and make up and i really like make up because I like it and it's like a hobby to me, but, i really want to be like a makeup guru and then make up artist i wish, i mean like have my work, and also be a make up artist, because it's like a part of me, and it would be what i expect from me. I know i'm young, but that's my dream and i hope you can give me some advice please, because you know more about it :)

  • ...can't buy that MAC stuff and those super expensive things and it's allright because i have a nice collection of make-up too, and i do make-up with the things i have and so i have to be more creative.

Sorry for my english! Keep up the good work Julia and hope you'll be even more succesfull because you are my inspiration! thank you!

  • thank you for sharing this Julia, it was so good to hear these things from you.

well, i'm 15 year old and i really enjoy doing make-up...I do a lot of crazy stuff at home, dramatic make-overs or "wearable" looks and it's so much fun. but i'd never wear them to school or going out because it's not an everyday thing, and looking good is not the most important thing in the world. And also, not all of the teens think that they have to look beautiful all the time. Especially in my country where we..

  • ...about sexuality, body-image (so many girls have or want breast implants!) and love and respect for your partner. I cannot imagine what it's like growing up with things like that being considered normal. In comparison, make-up videos seem harmless, but I totally agree about excessive consumerism. The make-up collections of most gurus are rediculous, but many of us have begun to consider it normal and aspirational.

  • Thank you so much for this video, I hope it reaches a lot of people.

I'm glad I was able to grow up without the influences children and teenagers are subjected to today. The internet and media in general have many positive aspects and offer all kinds of opportunities, but some of them are seriously destructive. I especially worry about the availability of porn on the net and resulting conceptions...

  • I think its terrible how society has forced kids to grow up as quickly as they are. I'm 23 now and I remember being 12. I was still playing with dolls! And 12 year olds today are trying to wear make up, and act and dress sexy. Its just sad what the world has done to them. And the one thing most kids dont get is just like you said, the things that make them cool are so insignificant. As a mom of two both me and my husband dont want our kids to grow up to fast. we want them to enjoy being children

  • @ivi122 hey so I'm 15 and I do sometimes believe that parents don't put rules or limitations on their kids lives... But at the same time it's all the new technology we have.... My own dad knows that technology is making teens think and act differently... Society is very different from20 yrs back.... And also.... Well not all teens are the same.... We all have different views and maturity levels... If I were you I would think about what I'm about to say and how I'm going to say it... K

  • the doll behind your chair is freaking me out LOL

  • I'm really young, and i love your videos. i use makeup alot, and i have a decent collection. i do fun "tutorials" for myself, but it's purely for fun. It really bugs me when girls my age wear makeup to school and wear itty bitty shorts and teeny tiny tops. i admit that i wear clothes that are somewhat "in style" and i do wear higher end brands, but the clothes I buy are also comfortable, and I like them, and i don't want them so i can show them off to people or get noticed.

  • what is up with that creepy doll in the background? O_O

  • jagoff

  • I'm almost 14 and I think a lot of adults have a pretty bad view of teenagers. I think that while yes, some of us are doing really bad things and having sex and all these things we're too young for, there are a lot of teenagers like me who do good in school, volunteer and aren't such bad kids.

  • @fashionbug312 Your right..sorry that the good kids (such as your self) aren't recognized more...not fair :(

  • @fashionbug312 we believe you. My worry started however, when i watched 15 yr old "beauty gurus" who wear a full face of make up as their daily routine....where i, a 26 yr old, wear half the amount of make up.

I get her point of materialistic priorities that we should shed. There are certain teenage youtubers that started off and still are in highschool and the amount of make up they apply and show people and their complete focus on the superficial physical bueaty scares me

  • @fashionbug312 either your lying out ur ass or your really boring :P just saying

  • @HollylovesTrent You're*

  • you are too great.

  • I really feel like make-up is my hobby, too, because often, I dont wear makeup. I just like watching other people do makeup, and do it myself, at home, before I go to bed. Its kinda like, when I watch tvshows of people cooking something. I really enjoy watching those shows, even though I never cook. I dont really find makeup, looks and material stuff that important. Two girls I go to school with, just all of a sudden got really obsessed with their looks, and their personality really changed.Im12

  • I had never really thought about this before, it is great you brought this up since it is an important issue. I suppose I've been lucky; internet only became normal to me when I was about 15. I am almost 22 now and I am confident enough to see make-up as an extension of myself and a form of art; not a way to change how I look, but I have had my insecure teenage years which might have gone in a different direction had internet been more prominent then.

  • Let's face it most teenagers are out of control. They are having sex at too young of age, trying alcohol and drugs, throwing up to be thin and not to mention lots of teen suicide. It is parents fault. Many kids have no limits, rules or responsibilities. They do what they want to do. I have a baby, a 7 year old boy and an 11 year old stepson. I try to teach them morals and values that many families are lacking today. Kids need to be kids and stop growing up to damn fast. Parents need to parent.

  • @ivi122 I'm sorry you have such a bad view on teenagers but I swear we're not all the same. I know you know this but I'm just saying.

  • @fashionbug312 I never said teenagers are all the same. I said "most" are out of control. I know that there are some that are well behaved, honest and responsible. To those teenagers I say, great job and be proud for staying true to yourselves.

  • @ivi122 Do you believe what you've stated is accurate? It's not always the parents fault. I know I went through a slightly "wild" phase, but it had NOTHING to do with my parents. They taught me good morals growing up, and were always there for me. They did everything they could to be wonderful parents, and they WERE. Teens acting out is often a result of media influence, as well as peer pressure. Drugs, sex, and beauty are constantly ground into our brain through the media, NOT by our parents.

  • @GrimmReaperess I do believe what I've stated is true. Although you might be right ,that is not always the parents fault. However we can't blame it on the media because we as parents have to monitor what our kids watch and how much they watch. If parents were concerned with media they shouldn't allow their kids to have Tv and computers in their room where there is no supervision. Many parents give their kids too much freedom. I believe that kids should earn privileges and have clear limits.

  • @ivi122 (Part 1) Parents should monitor their kids, but they're able to watch things at friends houses that they may not be able to watch at home, and as I said peer pressure is also a huge influence. You can't affect how the classmates of your children act. Things like teen magazines and shows that aren't very edgey STILL influence children of today's society. As MissCheivous said, even makeup gurus influence kids. She's polite and kind, and seems like a great role model. You would most likely

  • @ivi122 (Part 2) let your children watch a few of her videos, correct? She's very inspirational. However, she feels she (and other gurus) may be influencing children to think that EVERYONE has to wear makeup or look like them to be beautiful, which simply isn't true. Besides, when children hit a certain age they should be allowed to have a little more freedom, keeping them mentally chained up forever isn't healthy. Children NEED to learn about sex, drug abuse, an other things you may want to

  • @ivi122 (Part 3) shield your child from. But they're going to learn about them anyway, whether you monitor them or not, and it's better for the child (not to mention safer) if the parent is open and talks about it first so that the child gets accurate information. Even if you monitor EVERYTHING your child does, the outside world will STILL find it's ways to affect him/her. Kids aren't as dumb as we think, and they know what's going on.

  • @GrimmReaperess You are right they are going to learn about sex and other issues wether is from parents or peers. I just don't want my kids to grow up too fast. Childhood is so short. I want them to enjoy being kids. I know that as my kids turn teenagers they need more freedom but always with limits. It's not good for kids to be too sheltered but also to have to much freedom is bad. I just want to be the best parent I can be and protect my kids from harm. I guess we have to agree to disagree.

  • I'm 14 and because of youtube i learnd how to put make up on.. I buy now Mac and ysl etc. but i DO really love it. And so many people say that i'm good with it. I dont want to make it my job but like a hobby. I thing Youtube did influnced me but in a good way i guess. And like fashion, it's okay what u wear here (holland). It's just that i dont like the teens style hahaha i love to wear classy stuff. some people dont get that and because of that they think i'm trying to look older. BTW ty Julia

  • I'm 18 and as I've grown up around hundreds of other kids in school, although some are very mixed up, I've observed an increasing number of young people who have no shame in stepping out of the superficial and materialistic norm to use their minds to define themselves. I see often now that young people are realizing that society today holds no real value and they are capable of seeing what they can do to improve it. I think youth at this time is evolving more than ever, not to worry :)

  • personally im 18 years old and i had left highschool for homeschool because i hated how you were pressured to not be creative and just be a carbon copy of a hollister girl! i had always looked at makeup as a hobby but not until i found youtube did i start to be excited by makeup because of the artistic and creative approach you and other beauty gurus have. i think it all depends on the youtuber that the child is influenced by.i love the support some youtubers provides to break out from thecrowd!

  • This is a good video. Thank you for making it. Society puts way to much pressure on younger people. Like you I didn't get into make up until I was in my late 20's, and just recently started playing around with different styles and looks. BTW I love your videos.

  • Hello! I'm 15, soon 16 years old, and I confess that I were really influnced by your videos about makeup brands and such. I had the urge to get "the best makeup" and eventually bought some MAC. I got a wake up call afterwards and realized that I didn't really need that expensive makeup, because there really are other things that are important than being "presentable" (by societys laws) all the time :) I still really enjoy your videos, because I still love makeup, it's away of art! Keep it up! :)

  • I'm going to post a comment! :D lol

I recently started watching your videos and I have to say this is one of my favorites :) But I just wanted to share :) In my opinion, people (not just women) shouldn't be judged by their looks. It's sad how the media portrays beauty sometimes. True beauty is inside but it's fun to dress the outside up sometimes too, just don't make it the focus :) Great video!

  • i am a girl and i am 13 i don't where make up because i just want to enjoy being kd i will wear make up when i will be 15 or 16 but my recommendation to others enjoy your childhood and young years or teenager years because you only live once and one thing too don't grow faster than you are supposed to be

  • @armogurl4ever wow I am so impressed by your message. Are you sure your mom didn't write this...lol I totally agree with you. I am 36 years old and I know what you mean. I tell my kids to enjoy their childhoods because it does goes fast. It is very nice to see a teenager be so smart and make a comment like this. Keep it up and don't try to grow up too fast. You are only a kid for basically 18 years and the rest of your life you will be an adult. Enjoy being a kids

  • @ivi122 no i am 13 and i am goint to be 14 years old very soon in december thabk you so much i don't wear make up at all sometimes i just curl my lashes but nothing else i think that it will make me to look like a woman not like a 14 years old anyways besides that make up is bad for your skin and if i will start wearing make up now i would look horrible when i will be a little older . i love enjoing my natural beauty and i feel beautiful which is number 1 thing that helps me

  • wow julia I cannot believe how long ago you did this. I have never seen it & it is sage advice. When I was younger we would play w/ lipgloss & blush & wipe it off before we went home :-) but basically I never wore makeup out, unless it was special occasion. Now these young girls feel compelled to spend hundreds of dollars on CS palettes in mat & shimmer, mac brushes they know the nos of & dior mascaras, lipsticks. I am blown away & sad for their mad compulsion. Kids should be kids & have fun!

  • As an aspiring make up artist, this video was really helpful.

  • Love this video. Its very true.

Make-up is fun to play with, I find it a artistic thing for me lol makeup brush is like my paint brush.

Influences are greater now unlike back then and to me from my POV, it can be somewhat negative on there self-image.

  • love this! Thank you.

  • "You can buy your hair if it won't grow

You can fix your nose if he says so

You can buy all the make-up

    that M.A.C can make

But if you can look inside you

Find out who am I too

Be in a position to make me feel

    So damn unpretty"

  • Thanks for this video. Makes me relaxed.

  • i think this video would be great in your other channel because then you do have a better connection and it has more followers. its very important what you are saying.

i do like make up, im 16, its fun to watch your videos.

what is your job? is it connected to make up?

i think everything about the children how they develop and stuff depends on the education and the surrounding.

i didnt have this problems, but i think there are enough teens, who have this issues.

  • ever since i've taken part of the beauty community here on youtube, i've looked down upon drugstore brands & cheap clothes. you're right, we don't need to stress about these things. you've really opened my eyes & frankly, from now on i won't be as shallow, so to speak.

  • Hey!!

WoW! I think it is super cool that you made a video like this!

When I was 12 or 13 I exactly thought like you tell here.

Saddly I saw that video now and not in that part of my life. I really think you have a point! There is more in life than just YouTube, clothes, make-up, naildesigns...

To all younger watchers (okay... I am still 15 :D but I think I'm through that phase of my life... ^^): Maybe it helps you to ask your friends how they think about it. My ones helped me a lot!!

  • im one of your young viewers and yes i do feel like i can be presssed to look sexy or all glammed up, especially in highschool. But due to my family and the values ive learned, i agree with you at 16 now that its not that important! Makeup is fun and brings out your features but being pretty is feeling how beautiful u are INSIDE. Ur very inspirational :)

  • I'm 12 and I love playing with makeup, not because bigger gurus are using it, but because it's a hobby and I admit, I don't have much, even though older people tell me I do. It's annoying when I'm dragged down by jealous girls in my Year at school because I have a bit of high end makeup. I want to do makeup as a profession when I'm older because it's a lot more simple than wanting to be a lawyer or a doctor.

  • YOU ARE PERFECT!!! GREAT! I JUST FOUND YOURE VIDEOS ON YOUTUBE AND I CHECKING ALL YOURE VIDEOS RIGHT NOW... GOD BLESS YOU SWEETIE... ;)

  • women shouldn't be judged by how they look but the fact is we are. so it's important to be the best person we can be. happy, healthy, confident, smart, thoughtful, and live life with grace. people will always judge you and someone will always be prettier, thinner or smarter than you. but..no one is you. and you are unique, so show the world your best.

  • @BellaSC  +++

  • u really get the message across and i really wanna thank u im 13 i like to do make up as a hobby on other ppl but not on myself i like to make new designs like art but i know like a year ago i was really into looking gorgeous and pretty but thats nothiong compared 2 inner beauty

  • Thank you so much. I realize that I do want to wear all those brands but at my age its not important, because if want those brands I need money so school is more important. I'm happy my school doesnt have popularity ranks

  • It's really good you talked about that in one of your videos. Unfortunalely looks are important in life, even on an academic level, but it is a bit out of control these days, especially among teenager. Make-up can make you feel a bit better, but often (young) women use too much anyway, so that it looks awefully fake.

  • Wow.. You are a bigger person for thinking about more than the book cover (looks and makeup) I think it's cool that you think about people that are less well to do than you. Kudos!

  • no worry, i don't want to be like you, yellow fingernails look gay on me :D

  • I really liked this video! im 19 and i love your videos i watch them everytime i can ok like three times a month i watch ur vids.. but i dont get traumatised like younger girls do! i think you are so right.. i dont have alot of money, i mean i go to college work part-time and know my limits to buying clothes, makeup and shoes.. I dont get obssesed when watching vids really your right !

    Good video!

    Good video!

  • i tihnk it would be a good idea if you put this video on your makeup channel as well, so it gets more exposure.

  • I am very young, but I make videos, not because I want to have the best stuff and it is most certainly not the most important thing.

  • thank you. I totally agree with you and Im glad someone finally came out and said something. I'm 30 y.o. and I have a 13 y.o. It is very hard to get them to understand how things in life now have to be earned.

BTW I follow MissChievous also... :o)

Love ya! Keep up the great work!

  • Hey I'm 12 and I watch all your videos but I really like the stuff u use but I only use eyeshadow and concealer I sometimes use foundation you are realy talented xx

  • Heck, I'm 51 and *I* consider you a role model! :) Seriously, Julia, you are an interesting young woman who obviously has a good head on her shoulders (I'm a new viewer but I've done my homework!) and I very much appreciate the message you put out there regarding beauty, its place in our modern world, the significance of education and finding one's niche in this world and so on. I admire you, naturally, but I try to keep the info I learn from you in a proper perspective and use it with health :)

  • Thank you so much for this video. You've really inspired me to start changing my way of thinking about this whole makeup thing. Thank you.

  • I completely agree with what you are saying here. After working in the fashion industry and seeing what lengths some women go to to compete with these teen counterparts who have more money to spend on "luxuries" so it actually produces more of a viscous cycle, the younger you get used to expensive products the harder it is to compete with that younger self image as well as the cost of "upkeep" leading to more important things falling at the wayside

  • Hey Julia. I am not a teen (I'm a working young adult) but I have been thinking alot about this. I liked makeup as a teenager and things but I didn't put much time, thought, and effort into it. I simply liked getting ready to go out and whatever but that was about it. I started watching youtube videos recently and am stunned by some teen haul videos. It amazes me how many young people spend a fortune and alot of time on makeup and material goods. I am glad I enjoyed other aspects of my youth

  • Make-up is only a way to be a bit creative for me and it's just fun :) The same with fashion.

I'm nearly 16 and I' trying hard to find a goal, but I only found things which I would like to do, but nothing that is really like a passion and the one thing that I want to do.

  • Yes it's all insignificant compared to the most important thing to me.... God :)

  • I definatley don't do my makeup to fit in. As a 15 year old boy thats never going to work out :'). Putting on make up and feeling feminine is SO important to me. Its the only way I feel human.

But i completely agree about the young girls who act like that. They are growing up WAY too fast. If I was born a girl, I would have laid off the make up until I was a bit older.

  • Also: most kids, at least me, buy their own clothes and makeup.

  • @goaprincess: how in the world r uggs sexy?

  • I dont think theres anything wrong with makeup vids directed at teens. When u r a teen, u should be able to hav fun with makeup.

  • my name is jason

  • I think that "not fitting in" scares everyone, especially young adults, but it's gotten so stupid recently. I love seeing girls who take a stand and decide to be modest! :]

  • I'm 16. For me, makeup is one of those things that you only use for special occasions or if you've just gotten over something and you still look sickly, lol. And I completely agree with goaprincess about clothing that girls wear nowadays. Especially when you see their moms buying the clothes for them... :/ I buy most of my clothes at Goodwill and I get lots of people asking where I get something and I always like to shock them. ;]

  • i luv ur nails :D

  • hey lol i dnt wanna be like but wouldnt mind Being With you :p by the way... looking sexy girl

  • I like your way of thinking. I live in a poor country, and I´ve meet really beautiful women and they don´t have idea of makeup is, they´d never spend money in makeup because they have other thing much more important to think about... children, work, food, etc, and they are happy anyway.

  • I agree with you. :) I even feel pressure here on YouTube, because I feel like I need to spend most of my money on MAC and high end brands to be popular on YouTube. But people also don't realize that some gurus here on YouTube are professional makeup artists, so they are going to have lots of makeup. :)

  • I blame the media.. and their parents for spoiling their kids and for givin in to all that stuff that the kids want..

  • I honestly think that it's not too bad, these girls might look up to you, but they will find their way. You should not worry about that too much, just do what you really enjoy doing - that will impress those girls, too. Moreover, we all notice that you dedicate yourself to make up as an art and as a personal expression. That can be a lesson, too, so... relax! Keep up your work!

  • soo true... soooooo true.

Please People, we have to fix this problem.

Its MAJOR. Just look at Kesha or all those HipHop/RnB artists... its sad

  • It was a whole different world when I was young. I'm 27 now, and young girls (12-ish and above ) are wearing sexy things, things celebrities wear, outfits to get attention from boys (skinny jeans, uggs, tight clothing,etc...I was skinny & awkward at that age, Mom shopped at Limited Too or Children's Outlet, they were popular then, but little girls are growing up too quick now. I would give up a limb to go back and just be innocent..with no worries about boys or magazines or what I look like..

  • @goaprincess not all wear skinny jeans 4 boys attension some think thier cute like me

  • ....not to mention I see some of the comments people leave with a million of these -> "!!!!!"

Very over-zealous and juvenile- some distasteful such as a comment on this video a couple below me as well - ITS NOT SO IMPORTANT.....

I am bit older and wiser- watch your videos, and purchase cheaper brands which comes out just as well as brand name cosmetics.

.....but I still commend you on your huge success with the newspaper and everything.

I feel outta the loop! Been away for a month!

  • I am very glad you did this video for the kids.

They shouldn't have to worry about getting Mac #22 brush - but wow, 11 year olds?

I wasnt allowed to wear nailpolish til maybe 13 haha....

You have great character. Youve made something really amazing from scratch and being responsible and down to earth about it too...

  • I Agree Very much , I,m also A lot older them most of your Viewers and have seen that Girls of today feel they must look like some model off a fashion page or spend Ridiculous Amounts of money for something just because it has a famous name on it.yes its nice to have really nice things that are well made but They kind of over do it now. they have no idea of what is important now a days.

  • yup uh huh mhm yup ok we gona get to da point?

  • i like that you brought this issue up. thank you! even if you aren't into brand names and things like that, it's still easy to get sucked into. i think it should be used as an expression of self, not a degradation of self by following other "trends." find you and have fun with it. thanks so much Julia. :)

  • I think for some people, youtube does influence them with a lot of stuff, including beauty.

I was influenced at school, and just got hooked on it. So I looked up stuff on youtube, b/c I didn't know much, but now a bunch of people comment on how I look on a daily basis, but when they see me without makeup, or very little, they are shocked, but it doesn't bother me too much.

  • Totaly agree with u Julia

  • Hey Julia, I'm 17, and I completely agree with you. Makeup and beauty is fun and all, but I think people my age tend to get carried away with it all. That's not to say I don't; I feel a LOT of pressure on my appearance, I do, but there's more important things in life than they way we look.

I'm just going to try to live my life to the fullest right now, the way I am. Youth doesn't come back with time.

  • early 20s ? you have to be early 20s like 20 or 21! you look so young!

  • Make up is fun, and makes us look preaty, but doesn't make us happier.

I use make up every time I go dancing, or when I'm modelling for my photos (I'm an amatour photographer) and I consider that a lot! But is really up tou you to decide what and when to use make up, and only to you.

  • I'm 17 nright now and I still remember how is like to be 13 years old and found out that people moke more to your face and your clothes than your personality. Of course if you ask some young teen, and also some old teens to, they all will say that ''oh no! i don't care what they say and bla bla bla''. We all know that the way we look influence a lot the way people thing about us. It's the reality but what is important is that there is no need for the apearence to rule our lifes.

  • It's funny, I have brand name clothes, but I like wearing the ones I get on sale at Kohl's or happen to find at thrift stores or even hand-me-downs from my older cousin. They're not all the same. They're diverse. I think more people need to realize that.

  • no.

    just no.

  • I'm 13 and i have brand name clothes but heck i go to school in sweat pants but i dont care it just school who cares what you look like and if people care what you look like there stuck up snobs. Yeah i have makeup but its not like i wear it to school I'm only in middle school. But thanks for doing this vid i am very grateful that my mom works 2 jobs to get me this or get me that and i am very lucky to have what i have and i know that but anyways i really like your vids keep em coming

  • Do you know that these buttons exist: , ; : . ?

  • do you think I care

  • I am 15 years old and I have to say I do buy brand makeup, BUT I buy it because my skin is like f*c*ing ALLERGIC so I use Clarins, Clinique and estee lauder makeup (mostly) because they are speciall for sensitive-allergic skin (not kidding, chanel and some mac foundtions give me allergy). makeup that doesn't gimme trouble and isn't expensive: nyx eyeshadows. but anyways, I don't even comb my hair for school and makeup in partys and weekends (sometimes) I makeup and hair dress myslf when Im bored

  • I completely agree with you. I love the pure art of it ,but all in all you really don't need make-up you are who you are. I know some girls at my school that really are like that. It's a little upsetting. They ask me as well can we put make-up onyou I tell them I don't really need to they look at me like I'm a freak. Plus if you do wear it all the time you wear out the art of it. Make-up personally I think should come in moderation like wear a dress or a skirt, you don't wear them everyday. TY

  • I feel the same way. I'm a bit self conscious, which I'm sort of ashamed to admit, but I like looking nice--but I also like being artsy with my makeup. I'm always afraid people are going to walk into the bathroom, see me doing my makeup and think I'm a self-centered brat. I like bright, some might call "outlandish" make-up designs: magenta-to-yellow gradients, big swathes of green and blue. I don't wear it to school but if I could, I would, because it's me. (:

  • Wow, in my life I have been married and divorced. Since then I've done some dating, but I've never met someone with the passion, kindness and consideration you display in this video. Not to mention the humbleness you resonate, I hope to meet someone with these attributes one day. I applaud your message to the younger women you have sent here. Maybe you don't see yourself as a role-model, but I think you earn that title when you do something as generous and resonsible as you have done here. Thx.

  • im 14, and yes, i do feel pressured to look rly good at school and have brand name clothes and stuff, but i dont feel that youtube puts more pressure on teens to look "perfect". Not for me anyway. I just love makeup, and i think its fun to watch tutorials and other videos on makeup on youtube. :) love your videos :)

  • you're a very responsible role model! Thanks for your tutorials and your piece of advice. You're great!

  • this is probably one of the best videos on youtube and you really get the point across. I think that all the makeup gurus should have some sort of link to this video on their channels. Your an amazing artist by the way =)

  • I see what you mean

I'm 14 and a freshman in highschool and I really want to me a cosmetologist because I love hair and makeup I do like all my friends makeup and hair for parties and such but the makeup I use isn't alot of money I use inexpensive

stuff because I really don't see the point of getting things so expensive

also I don't feel presured by school because I don't care what people think and alot of them label me as emo goth scene like I ignore it

    I just find myself different.

    xx

  • I completely get what your saying now im 17 myself and i see girls around me feeling the need to have what their role models have,i think its partly a feeling to wanting to be accepted and also maybe that they want to feel less self secure. but i dont see the need for people to copy others they should be unique and have a happy childhood instead :)

  • Hi there. I'm 20 and I do totally agree with what you're saying. I love make-up and I do wear it when I want to look "pretty" but it shouldn't be a necessity, it's not the most important thing in the world. When I was in highschool I had bad acne and I was upsested with wearing foundation, concealer, powder, I mean I wouldn't do to a swim party without face make up on and that's just rediculous, once my face started to clear up, I started to let it go, but you should always be yourself :)

  • I'm 16, and I get what you're saying. I think it depends a lot on your society and life. I try to look "perfect" all the time, but it's because I want to look presentable and conceived as the person I am. So I never wear sweats, hoddies or sneakers. And I know I may not have the best values, but it's for myself and feeling good.

I don't do my hair at all though. X)

  • im 20 years old and I totally agree with what your saying. But at sometimes When I watch these guru vids It makes me a little selfconcious abt myself bc they have more money better quality makeup then I do.But then I think that they have those things bc they are older and as I get older and furhter my education I will be able to afford the nice things but as of now this is my first year outta my teens and Im just gonna enjoy it and have fun.

  • hey julia!!! im 16 and in love with fashion. i wanna be a fashion designer. to me, fashion is important just because i want to have a career field in this area. but i do agree that some girls really and truly idolize too much sometimes with others. i think its okay to idolize someone, but they should set their own fashion statements and at a young age, they should have limits as to when they should be dressed up. i am actually starting to dress my age a little more. on occasion i dress up.

  • AMEN!!

you are such a positive role model for the youth :)

  • well im 19, and im not obsessed whit beauty and materialism. i just love playing whit makeup and its nice to learn new things by watching makeup vids :) i just enjoy makeup thats all.

  • Loved this video :) I totally agree. Beauty stuff is fun but being nice to others, having culture and an interesting conversation will be far more valuable for each one and the people we relate to.. I think being kind and fun is far more attractive than being pretty :)

  • well i got into makeup when i was 13

but well i look up to you guyss i love watching the gurus videos but im totally myself... i love makeup i catch tips and tricks from youguys and thats really good i mean hey makeup for me is like a hobby since i cant dra or paint i realease my creativity throught makeup i tottally get your point like the other day i saw a 9 year old doing makeup thanks julia for the video

  • @alltimedani i had pretty much the same experience as you so far.I've alwys viewd makeup as a fun art + utube gurus as artists + i don't envy them as a person, their skills,i hope to achieve smday.i'm the MUG with most of my friends + smtimes spend 1/2 the schoolday w/o + the other w/ makeup, cmfrtbl in both.wat's funny is tht i'm nt the friend who needs 2 have a face on all the time tht's tryin 2 be natural,i put makeup on infront of ppl.I hate tht they feel this way about THEIR FACE,apart of u.

  • yeah i guess i love doing makeup on other people you know(: well im fourteen sometimes i dont feel like putting makeup on i mean i feel totally comfortable with out foundation but my eyes look puffy without anything dark aroung them so i put i tip of eyeliner you know? but other than that i dont feel like wearing makeup , makeup for me is a way of art cause again i cant draw thanks for the understanding(:
