@vvWait Mary Tudor was strictly religious and had strong moral values. She was kind to Henry's other wives, since he married then before having any relationship with them.
Mary was mean to Anne Boleyn because her father cheated on her mother with her. And she was mean to Katherine, because Katherine was HER AGE and she saw her as slutty.
Really, Henry married a girl who had his own daughter's age.
everyone bashes kitty for how she is and takes up marys side so easily. but Mary should be angry with her father instead sence he is the one whos in control with the people he chooses to be with -.- i think mary was the one being unfairly bitchy to someone who obviously didnt have the same knowledge and upbringing
@Belindagirl13 well there you go, Mary was born into a princess, Cathrine was not, she is a very silly little girl, yes I see that Kitty was trying to be friends with her, but come on, Mary is much older and I am pretty sure she does not want to sit around with the Queen who is younger than she is talking about useless things.
I think Mary was so cold to Katherine because she was much younger than her and was her "stepmother". But I also think she was afraid to become close to another queen, like she was with Jane Seymour, should something happen to her.
Perhaps though she felt hatred towards her because Katherine Howard was Anne Boleyn's cousin.
Mary was not afraid of getting close to her stepmothers, as she was very friendly with Anne of Cleves and Catherine Parr as well, despite the fact that both were Protestants.
@harajukukevin6657 I don't feel bad for Catherine Howard at all. Mary is the embodiment of purity, faith and virtue. Catherine is the embodiment of ... well, I'd rather not say!
I feel bad for Katherine in this clip. She went to so much trouble to get Mary to like her. She and her maids baked cakes for her. Mary could have at least sat down to tea with them. I also feel bad for Mary and all she went through and to have a stepmother 5 or 6 years younger than you.
@TudorRose85 I have to agree. Again as I said elsewhere in this thread I think Mary could have at least TRIED to be a bit kinder, a tad more civil. After all Katherine was polite, she wasn't nasty to her (at first). It was only after Mary was continually rude to her that Kitty finally turned on her.
I feel bad for both girls too. Katherine might have been silly and foolish but she was obviously trying to make a good relationship with Mary. And at the same time you can't exactly blame Mary for being cold, given what she saw her mother go through. I think both girls were just forced into difficult situations and they both dealt with it as well as they could.
...in fact he signed the warrant for his other Uncle the Lord Protector to death....and Kitty was young and with it she brought the follies of youth that she wouldn't have brought as an adult.....to reiterate, Kings and Queens are not guilty of murder because of their position....they act in the position of the state...if Eliz II decided to start chopping heads and burning people at the stake she would have every right....She IS the state, her word is law.....
@SleepWhenIamDead Well then since that applies to her then that applies to all kings and queens and since Mary was a Queen the applies to her as well.
@hi1431bye ...I agree...she had every right...Bloody Mary was just a tad, well bloody about it....she wasn't tactful and was willy nilly....she even signed death warrants on her death bed!....surely she could have been less heavy handed and less the zealot....and more adroit like her sister....
@SleepWhenIamDead Actually that comment (hi1431bye) means that Howard was a silly woman, you know a bubblehead with no excuse for that behaviour...you might deteste Mary but she was right in this scene, I'm sorry.
@catiaktita to boil down Katherine Howard to a bubblehead is to over simplify matters, she was raised in a household with many children and NO supervision, of course she was sexually active early and couldn't restrain herself, she wasn't taught to...as for Mary, I already said I don't detest her, it is her policies, she even burned pregnant women at the stake. one woman gave birth at the stake and the baby was thrown back on the fire, read Alison Weir! Mary was heartless and a religious fanatic.
@SleepWhenIamDead Doesn't matter...Mary had every right just like Elizabeth to kill...well at least coming from your mouth. I don't think that anyone has the right to kill...I'm just saying...
@catiaktita ....once again on this I agree, no one has the right to kill, but the Monarch is the State (the Chief Executive Officer so to speak), hence the State is doing the killing...
....whereas we never say "Bloody Edward" or "Bloody Elizabeth".....Edward and Elizabeth, as records show got all the best administrative traits from their father, Mary left the realm in ruin and chaos and dripped in blood, she deserves the smear that history has heaped on her.....
...you can see the beginning of the Serial Killer that Bloody Mary is going to become....so intolerant she even burned pregnant women alive and when they gave birth at the stake, the fetus was thrown in the fire....just sit down and have a stupid bloody cake, it won't kill you...that is okay, you spend your last 2 yrs of your life dripped in blood and having 2 hysterical "pregnancies"...Edward and Elizabeth were so much better rulers....
@SleepWhenIamDead Tell me something...would you have a "cake" with your foolish younger stepmother as well? I bet you wouldn't, talk about others is easy, however being in that same situation is harsh...Funny how people tend to forget that both Henry and Elizabeth were murderes(sometimes even worse) as well though...very funny indeed!! And do yourself a huge favor and THINK for a little while in how Mary's life was hard beyond belief.
@catiaktita when you are born in the purple you have duties to perform, and if that involves building bridges by eating a piece of bloody cake than get over yourself and eat a piece of cake....Kitty could have repaired bridges between her and her father just like Parr did, but Mary was just so stuck on herself, part of her programming from her mother..it was to be her downfall and her reputation as one of the greatest serial killers of all time she didn't earn the title "Bloody Mary" for nothing
@SleepWhenIamDead Are you serious??!! 'Kitty' was nothing more than a filthy liar, whore and spoiled brat, she would not even speak with Mary if it wasn't for her own benefit!!! 1st since when Catalina d'Aragon was stuck on herself?? Aren't you confunding that little characteristic manner with Anne B. or even Henry VIII?! 2nd Henry was a murderer and Elizabeth was a murderer as well, the only heir that wasn't an assassin was little Edward. End of story!
@catiaktita my fave was kitty, she she simply a very young girl raised to the throne and brought that baggage with her.all Monarchs are murders to some extant but it is legal because they ARE the state, hence it is legal. COA was stuck on herself and didn't know when to let go she was caught up in the ideal of marriage and coluldn't do what was right and let go for the realm for England. Edward was a murder, he signed the death warrant and sent his Uncle the High Lord Admiral Seymour to death...
@SleepWhenIamDead Then according to you they're all a bunch of murderers right? So why favor all except for Mary?? That's what I don't understand, how you ppl can be so hipocritical I mean, you just favor the rest of them because it pleases you. You don't have any good reason to hate Mary, you just simply do...Because according to whatever the writers have written about her you ppl tend to hate her more just because she wasn't a protestant...good grief!!
@catiaktita ....I think Monarchs must use "murder" to secure their throne and rule, I guess I was a little harsh in my statement....I am actually a Monarchist, I don't believe in democracy, it is a sham that corporations use to control the masses....and I am critical of Mary because she was a religious zealot...compare her to Elizabeth I who was very politically adroit in all matters and only executed people when necessary, even Mary, Queen of Scots, she dithered for years over...
@SleepWhenIamDead Elizabeth I did NOT only murder who was needed, she killed catholics so why is that any different? I'll tell you why, because in all those years english ppl 'favored' her not for her political manners but yes for her religion and I don't trust anyone who says any different. It might not be your reason but it was for so many writers and the rest of the population over these years, and the concept stayed. Saying that Elizabeth was better for her 'murdering' choices is ridiculous.
@catiaktita ....you just don't have an open mind, you are extremely biased, you are a COA lover and any wife or child that came after you automatically hate, you can't weigh them on their own merits, as for Eliz I murdering Catholics, just realise she was doing what the public wanted at the time, they survived an awful time under Mary and wanted revenge, Eliz I always could judge the political wind and survive....stop being so biased...each wife was an amazing woman in her own right!...
@SleepWhenIamDead That doesn't mean that I take lightly what Mary has done! And if that is what you think then you can't judge me because you are an AB fan...see it makes no sense at all cause you might not be an AB fan, I'm just saying that you were being hipocritical about the 'all were murderes but Mary was the worst' theory, they are all the bad guys okay! You're calling me biased but you were the one coming here bad-mouthing Mary by something done by ALL Tudors, but to you Beth was a saint
@catiaktita you're not saying which statement you felt was hypocritical clarify, from you statements it is very obvious you're in the COA camp and everyother wife be damned, by having this viewpoint you deny yourself the joy each of these intelligent, far-sighted, and brilliant women brought to one if not the most intriguing times in all of England. Only the time of Iconoclasm in the Byzantine Empire was so exciting and had such far reaching results. there is no room for personal feeling here.
@SleepWhenIamDead Loool ummm all of your statments look hipocritical, look at this comment for instance: "compare her to Elizabeth I who was very politically adroit in all matters and only executed people when necessary" the for necessary should have never happened, because those ppl still were killed. And if
you tell me that was because they were in a monarchy, I'll ask you, is it right to kill ppl if we're in a monarchy?
I cant blame mary for feeling that way, but is not katherine´s fault, she should be angry with herd dad not her, actually as Kiity said probably she had envy at her because ktty was younger. Katherine just was trying to be nice with Mary.
I really liked Mary and felt compassion for the pain in her life. But, I recognize her pride and ungraciousness with Katherine Howard in this scene and Katherine Parr too. Mary could have graciously acknowledged the authority bestowed to his wife by Henry VIII and taken KH under her wing. Mary also could have accepted people's right to their own spiritual beliefs, not arrogantly rejected KP and ordered Protestants killed. The clip actually makes KH appear gracious despite her nervousness.
I'm not a time lord, so I can't say what the real Katherine Howard was like, but this version at least makes her out to be an insufferable twat. I'm siding with Mary in this one.
Emily Blunt does a much better depiction of a more dignified Catherine Howard in the movie about King Henry VIII....Tamzin Merchant was so badly miscast for the role in the TUDORS season 4....it is painful to watch
By everyones reaction to Katherine I presume that she must have been such a beauty, however the actress they choose to portray Katherine looks like she is only 12 they could have choose someone who was more appealing than her.
I don't think any daughter is ever happy when her father marries a woman who is 8 years younger than her, Mary was actually very polite to Katherine and she treated her as queen,
Katherine was very childish and immature not fit for a queen.
such poor casting for Katheirne Howard....I am sure the real historical queen did not roll her eyes like a high school idiot cheerleader...really bad acting
@kappleviolet Well, Katherine WAS a silly seventeen-year-old. I think it's a good casting. I feel bad for both Mary and Katherine. They both not deserve what Henry did to them.
@xGerdine don't base your view on Katherine Howard based on THE TUDORS...it was inaccurate...they made her character silly and idiotic.....she was an intelligent woman who was forced to marry a fat, old king henry (not the young depiction you see in the TUDORS) he was a tyrant....did you know Anne Boleyn was Catherine Howards first cousin...she knew what happened to her and knew she was being forced to marry a monster by her family who craved power....
@kappleviolet I base my view on Katherine Howard on what I read about her, I know 'the Tudors' is inaccurate, of course it is. I know she was Anne's cousin, she was also forced to marry the king. But Anne was a strong woman, Katherine wasn't. Even her relatives doubted her intelligence and the fact if she was mature enough to be queen. We know she wasn't. I do feel bad for her though, but she was just seventeen. Se-ven-teen. She couldn't be a queen at that age.
Mary is a cunning young woman and she could see right through Katherine Howard from the beginning. If she had become too close to Katherine, Mary's head more than likely would've ended up on the chopping block simply as guilt by association. She was smart enough to know it was a man's world--or to be exact it was Henry's world--and she had to keep as far removed as possible from suspicion of actions against him. Poor Katherine was apparently unaware of this aspect and it was her doom...
I feel sorry for both girls here. Katherine was trying to be nice but did she honestly think Mary would be happy to be reminded that her new stepmother was a silly, frivolous girl who was younger than her? Even though she was a little bit cold, Mary still honoured her and showed her respect. It annoys me that Katherine eyeballs her afterwards because she wouldnt eat cake with her, she's a born princess, I think she's got more important stuff to do than sit about with a load of gossipy airheads.
@lechatnoire21 well mary had kind of made up her mind about katherine beforehand. she showed respect to a certain degree but she didn't try to be warm or inviting. katherine should have expected this sort of treatment at first but then again she couldn't help her age.
@lechatnoire21 I feel sorry for Katherine more than i do Mary. Katherine's trying really hard to befriend Mary but Mary doesn't want any of it. She roles her eyes at the end because she tried her hardest to be friends with Mary but Mary just declined and walked away. She's finding it very difficult. And yes, I wouldn't like it if my step-mother was younger than me, and a Queen, but they could have been friends but Mary decided not to accept. So I feel sorry for Katherine more here.
@JessicaLouiseMusic At first I felt bad for Katherine, because I could see she was really trying. But I felt worse for Mary because of the way Katherine handled it. She acted all petty and mean because Mary was the only person to act cold towards her. Compared to Catherine of Aragon, the 2nd Katherine was just a disgrace. Mary also hated her because she was the cousin of Anne, but Anne at least had sharp wit and intelligence. She was worthy. All of his wives were except for Katherine Howard
@findleyrocks Katherine Howard is my favourite queen because I think I can relate more. Not the bit where she has an affair and stuff like that, but because she was a young girl, in her teens, like me. All you want to do is have fun and in those days to have fun meant to dance around in dresses and giggle, not like these days where its to go out out and get drunk. I think she was worthy and she tbh, Her friend Joan lied to her that Thomas said he was in love with her.
@lechatnoire21 I agree. But the thing is that Katherine has no sense. Before she was pretty much a silly whore with no education, no birth rights, no parents to teach her how to be a courtier, she only had her looks and she never really fully grew up. The King was only attracted to her because of those two things, and she made him feel younger. And with the King's affection she just grew more spoiled and thought that everyone would just do what she wanted because she was pretty and the Queen
@Schaetzchen95 I disagree, it is the Christian way to love others and be kind to them, not spit in their faces when they're being nice. One reason Katherine made the awkward stepdaughter remark was Mary was making her so nervous. Mary was behaving in an unkind and immature way, and Katherine was being the bigger person. On the other hand, in real life, apparently they became friends for awhile.
Team Mary!! I mean come on! Lets be fair! She has every right to be sour, Kitty is married to her father who is a KING! And she is years younger than Mary, Because her father only cares about himself! ,
Kitty is declared as queen and has done nothing to deserve while Mary deserves to be the first in line to the succession, I think this is what caused her to be so mean in the future, Poor Mary, All she did in her life was suffer :( But I also love Elizabeth!! :)
@hotchick1860 Not to mention that she had to witness was her poor mum was treated by Henry, and then Mary had to sign some paper and agree to be officially declared a bastard. Yeah, I'd be pretty pissed off too.
@Himaryous I can see your point but what would you do if you were in Mary's shoes? All the suffering she did in her life I think she had the right to be more than a little sour.
@hotchick1860 I think if I were in Mary's shoes I wouldn't be mean to someone who was being nice to me (which Katherine was before Mary was rude to her). I might keep a bit of distance but I'd save my sourness for people who actually had done something bad to me.
@Himaryous Yes I understand what you mean, Mary could have been a little nicer but Katherine had to realise then that the English court wasn't all about fun and games, There were a lot of political figures around her, I suppose Mary was showing her that royalty is full of Pride, Scorn and Envy.
I DOnt think Mary was Harsh At all ...... SHe was Being Herself.... Think About it) So Called Queen Katherine Was Low Born....Mary Was Probably thinking WHo Is She? Lol ANd For Real I Would Act the Same Way If My Father MarriEd Somebody Younger Than Me.... I agree With Nao258.... Mary is Clever And Walks With Her Head High LikE A True ANd pure Princess....
I feel so sorry for Katherine, she obviously wanted to be good friends with Mary and she really did try her best to be polite and respectful towards her in the beginning. I do kind of understand why Mary is the way she is though, it can't be easy for her. I have to say I've loved Mary's potrayal in this show and judging by the latest episodes we're finally starting to get a taster of "Bloody Mary" and the beginning of her decent into madness.
perhaps if Katherine had taken Mary as an example and thought through her words about being frivolous, she would have had a head on her shoulders at the end of it all.
I have to say I'm kindof on both sides. Katherine was trying to be nice and Mary turned her down cold, but you also have to remember the Mary had been through so much through her life and don't forget that Katherine is the first cousin of Anne Boleyn, which she hated for all her life. Katherine also acts cruelly towards her after.
I understand why Mary is upset. She was raised by one of the most renowned princesses in Christendom and now here is her fourth stepmother, several years younger than she is, sitting on her father's knee like a little filly. Truthfully, it is an insult to Mary to see such a foolish twit sitting on her mother's throne. I'd be pissed too. The second queen Katherine is a disgrace to the first.
"You are after all my step daughter" Yeah, and she is her fourth step mother, I understand why Mary doesn't feel like she needs another. She probably guesses that Kitty doesn't love her father
For everyone taking up for Mary, give me a break. I understand Mary bitterness but at the same time any animosity that she had should have been directed towards her father, the king. He Allowed the injustices and cruel treatment towards her mother KOA and other innocent people. He was the problem, not Kitty.
I still love Mary, but her attitude and jealousy towards Catherine makes me despise her a little.
Catherine was kind to her and tried to be friends with her but all Mary could do was show her contempt and jealousy. Maybe if she had tried to be a little more civil Catherine could have helped her find a match?!
If she was actually a man, then why did Henry not present her/him as a son? When Henry's greatest wish was to have sons? It was most like Mary's attitude, involvement in politics, religion, war, and her way of being that made Philip despise her. She also grew fat and tiresome, what man could be happy with a woman like that? She should have spent more time in the budoir fixing herself up and making her appearance more appealing and to concentrate on having children.
Which one? If you mean the one where I don't believe that Mary was a man, then something is wrong with you.
As for the second comment, she was obviously jealous since she was much older than Catherine and still not married. Back then, one of worst things that could happen to a woman was to become an old maid
Please remember that she was only a child, a teenager without a proper upbringing. She hardly had an education to speak of, she came to court with no knowledge of proper ettiquette or manners, which was not her fault. She was raised by a Grandmother who ran an inappropriate household, most especially for young ladies.
If Mary were a man, then she wouldn't have been passed off as a girl. Henry would never have ended his marriage with Catherine, he would never have had so many wives in attempts to conceive a son and there would be no Queen Elizabeth. Henry was obsessed with bearing a son and of Mary really was a boy, no one would dare hide it and Henry certainly wouldn't hide it. He would take a son as his heir straight away.
I understand Mary completely in fat that look my daughter has sometimes but she should have accepted the cakes even if kitty was being silly she did try to make "peace" with mary and mary should have just gotten along with it so she wouldnt be in trouble. Poor mary and poor kitty too
What a shame, Kitty means well. Mary's just not able to accept her and never could have. She can never show her father how much she resents him, so she takes it out on Kitty.
Kittry was trying to be nice... but you can also understand Mary as this childish girl is now being named the queen of england just like her honorable mother and Jane Seymore who actually really liked
I definitely like Katherine (for now), I can't imagine what state of mind Mary must be in. Really, this is the cousin of the woman who was the cause of Katherine and Henry's divorce and the seperation of the Catholic church, I don't blame Mary for being a little indifferent. She might find Katherine to be a little frivolous, considering how much younger and naive she is. However, it's not like Mary is unreasonably rude to her. She's just trying to adjust to her father's fifth wife.
Don't misjudge what I say people, I am not condoning what Mary did to her reign, I'm saying the obvious. Besides every royal in history killed those who did not agree with them, it wasn't just Mary you know, look at her father, and many others. People were raised differently back then.
I thought it was tragic too, I do not know if Catherine truly did commit those crimes, but yeah very tragic. To have your head chopped off, well King Henry was a character...
stepmother after stepmother, no wonder Mary doesn't like her. Not to mention she was Anne Boleyn's cousin the woman who made her life a hell to start with. She has every reason to hate Catherine. I mean to tell someone your my stepdaughter and your like 16 yrs younger than them was just demeaning back then
@Kratos8462 Firstly, Mary was 24 when her father married Kitty so if Kitty was 16 years younger than Mary, Henry would need to be shot.
Secondly, what's demeaning about it?
If Kitty is Henry's wife, that makes her Mary's stepmother, regardless of their respective ages? If Mary has a problem with having a stepmother younger than her, she should take it up with her father... if she dares. She has no call to take her resentment out on Kitty when Kitty's trying to be friendly.
Well the difference between Mary and Katherine is Mary looked graceful and poised, like true royalty, plus she was able to hold her own in the argument and did not need her maid's agreement or help. Katherine, though sweet, is just a little girl playing dress-up who had to rely on her posey (ladies), to agree with her, because she couldn't stand on her own, like Mary did.
@mckfrr That's because Catherine was completely uneducated, considerably younger and thrust into an environment in which she was totally out of her depth and unprepared for. Mary was older, brought up a Princess and lived in that environment all her life. Its a pointless and invalid comparison.
Love how Mary handled herself. She was poised and graceful as Mary Tudor is said to have been in her life. She could have acted as childish like Cathrine & acted as though she was happy. Instead she held her ground and kindly decline. This was the perfect learning experiance for Catherine to grow up a little. Too bad she didn't learn anything. Mary's always been my fav Tudor since I was young hearing about her life. Grace, Honor, Truth and Virtue. More ppl sould live by those vaules.
I know this normal back then have marriages older men and a young teenager..but it kind of funny to see..say that step mother could be your baby sister or something lol..(as in age differences not really a baby sister just to clear it up) But he was bad king a normal king wuold have taken a woman who could be her in the age gap..if he had no daughter could see were it would be ok..but this was insane even back then they knew it lol
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
KH, was an incompetent woman and Mary wasnt being rude, she just wasn't falling all over to please her. Kitty was younger and less mature than Mary, she wanted playmates not stepchildren
Yes, cause every other girl whose father married someone younger than herself who behaved like a teenage slut openly in court would have been delighted to have her as a step-mother, with all the power that it entails in 16th century England. Being in Mary's shoes, going through what she went through, might give you some perspective.
@historygirl90 -She is like that because of what has happened, of course everyone has different experiences and we all have very ways to deal with it, I don't justify mary she was nasty here but she probably sees anne boleyn after what happened and given she always felt her life was thrown down the window she is probably like yeah I am screwed which face it mary was screwed since day one and the poor girl was not fit to rule because of it!
@historygirl90 ummm...I'm not disagreeing withthe fact that she constantly whines and bitches. But how do you think you would be if your mother had died and you were forbidden to see her, your father ignored you part of your life, and he is now on wife number 5 mean stepmother number 4 for you, who happens to be what 9 or 10 years younger than you?
@historygirl90 I think Mary is so determined that Catherine of Aragon was the rightful Queen of England and that any of Henry's other wives was not worthy of the title... that's just my opinion.
@annaboleynrulez yes, she is but I think she's clueless that she indirectly ruined Mary's potential marriage to Duke Phillip in S03. (All thanks to Henry VIII) If someone had told her, then her relationship with Mary would have turned out for the better.
At least Kitty made an effort, which is more than I can say for Mary. I think that this is a sweet Kitty scene, she's trying hard and she wants things to go well but Mary is so cold.
A little effort on Mary's part wouldn't have gone amiss. I'm fairly certain that sitting down for cake and chit-chat wouldn't have killed her but she's only shaming herself by being so rude.
Kitty has nothing to be ashamed of in this scene. She was welcoming to all of her stepchildren.
I must admit, i do feel pretty awful for Katherine at this moment, but i kinda feel sorry for Mary as well, to have a girl younger than you are talking like that to you as if she is superior in a way, and yet it would be almost impossible for Mary to have any real respect for her as she is so childish and giggly. Plus she was related to Anne Boleyn, which couldn't have helped.
I feel so sorry for Katherine.. she really tries to be nice, but Mary is just cold and rejecting all the time!

Perhaps though she felt hatred towards her because Katherine Howard was Anne Boleyn's cousin.

@SleepWhenIamDead "if Eliz II decided to start chopping heads and burning people at the stake she would have every right."
Ummm....Mary was the Queen of England as well... just so you know...
catiaktita 1 year ago
@SleepWhenIamDead Well then since that applies to her then that applies to all kings and queens and since Mary was a Queen the applies to her as well.
hi1431bye 11 months ago
@hi1431bye ...I agree...she had every right...Bloody Mary was just a tad, well bloody about it....she wasn't tactful and was willy nilly....she even signed death warrants on her death bed!....surely she could have been less heavy handed and less the zealot....and more adroit like her sister....
SleepWhenIamDead 11 months ago
@SleepWhenIamDead Actually that comment (hi1431bye) means that Howard was a silly woman, you know a bubblehead with no excuse for that behaviour...you might deteste Mary but she was right in this scene, I'm sorry.
catiaktita 11 months ago
@catiaktita to boil down Katherine Howard to a bubblehead is to over simplify matters, she was raised in a household with many children and NO supervision, of course she was sexually active early and couldn't restrain herself, she wasn't taught to...as for Mary, I already said I don't detest her, it is her policies, she even burned pregnant women at the stake. one woman gave birth at the stake and the baby was thrown back on the fire, read Alison Weir! Mary was heartless and a religious fanatic.
SleepWhenIamDead 11 months ago
@SleepWhenIamDead Doesn't matter...Mary had every right just like Elizabeth to kill...well at least coming from your mouth. I don't think that anyone has the right to kill...I'm just saying...
catiaktita 11 months ago
@catiaktita ....once again on this I agree, no one has the right to kill, but the Monarch is the State (the Chief Executive Officer so to speak), hence the State is doing the killing...
SleepWhenIamDead 11 months ago
....whereas we never say "Bloody Edward" or "Bloody Elizabeth".....Edward and Elizabeth, as records show got all the best administrative traits from their father, Mary left the realm in ruin and chaos and dripped in blood, she deserves the smear that history has heaped on her.....
SleepWhenIamDead 1 year ago
...you can see the beginning of the Serial Killer that Bloody Mary is going to become....so intolerant she even burned pregnant women alive and when they gave birth at the stake, the fetus was thrown in the fire....just sit down and have a stupid bloody cake, it won't kill you...that is okay, you spend your last 2 yrs of your life dripped in blood and having 2 hysterical "pregnancies"...Edward and Elizabeth were so much better rulers....
SleepWhenIamDead 1 year ago
@SleepWhenIamDead Tell me something...would you have a "cake" with your foolish younger stepmother as well? I bet you wouldn't, talk about others is easy, however being in that same situation is harsh...Funny how people tend to forget that both Henry and Elizabeth were murderes(sometimes even worse) as well though...very funny indeed!! And do yourself a huge favor and THINK for a little while in how Mary's life was hard beyond belief.
catiaktita 1 year ago
@catiaktita when you are born in the purple you have duties to perform, and if that involves building bridges by eating a piece of bloody cake than get over yourself and eat a piece of cake....Kitty could have repaired bridges between her and her father just like Parr did, but Mary was just so stuck on herself, part of her programming from her mother..it was to be her downfall and her reputation as one of the greatest serial killers of all time she didn't earn the title "Bloody Mary" for nothing
SleepWhenIamDead 1 year ago
@SleepWhenIamDead Are you serious??!! 'Kitty' was nothing more than a filthy liar, whore and spoiled brat, she would not even speak with Mary if it wasn't for her own benefit!!! 1st since when Catalina d'Aragon was stuck on herself?? Aren't you confunding that little characteristic manner with Anne B. or even Henry VIII?! 2nd Henry was a murderer and Elizabeth was a murderer as well, the only heir that wasn't an assassin was little Edward. End of story!
catiaktita 1 year ago
@catiaktita my fave was kitty, she she simply a very young girl raised to the throne and brought that baggage with her.all Monarchs are murders to some extant but it is legal because they ARE the state, hence it is legal. COA was stuck on herself and didn't know when to let go she was caught up in the ideal of marriage and coluldn't do what was right and let go for the realm for England. Edward was a murder, he signed the death warrant and sent his Uncle the High Lord Admiral Seymour to death...
SleepWhenIamDead 1 year ago
@SleepWhenIamDead Then according to you they're all a bunch of murderers right? So why favor all except for Mary?? That's what I don't understand, how you ppl can be so hipocritical I mean, you just favor the rest of them because it pleases you. You don't have any good reason to hate Mary, you just simply do...Because according to whatever the writers have written about her you ppl tend to hate her more just because she wasn't a protestant...good grief!!
catiaktita 1 year ago
@catiaktita ....I think Monarchs must use "murder" to secure their throne and rule, I guess I was a little harsh in my statement....I am actually a Monarchist, I don't believe in democracy, it is a sham that corporations use to control the masses....and I am critical of Mary because she was a religious zealot...compare her to Elizabeth I who was very politically adroit in all matters and only executed people when necessary, even Mary, Queen of Scots, she dithered for years over...
SleepWhenIamDead 11 months ago
@SleepWhenIamDead Elizabeth I did NOT only murder who was needed, she killed catholics so why is that any different? I'll tell you why, because in all those years english ppl 'favored' her not for her political manners but yes for her religion and I don't trust anyone who says any different. It might not be your reason but it was for so many writers and the rest of the population over these years, and the concept stayed. Saying that Elizabeth was better for her 'murdering' choices is ridiculous.
catiaktita 11 months ago
@catiaktita ....you just don't have an open mind, you are extremely biased, you are a COA lover and any wife or child that came after you automatically hate, you can't weigh them on their own merits, as for Eliz I murdering Catholics, just realise she was doing what the public wanted at the time, they survived an awful time under Mary and wanted revenge, Eliz I always could judge the political wind and survive....stop being so biased...each wife was an amazing woman in her own right!...
SleepWhenIamDead 11 months ago
@SleepWhenIamDead That doesn't mean that I take lightly what Mary has done! And if that is what you think then you can't judge me because you are an AB fan...see it makes no sense at all cause you might not be an AB fan, I'm just saying that you were being hipocritical about the 'all were murderes but Mary was the worst' theory, they are all the bad guys okay! You're calling me biased but you were the one coming here bad-mouthing Mary by something done by ALL Tudors, but to you Beth was a saint
catiaktita 11 months ago
@SleepWhenIamDead If that's not being an hipocrit then I don't know what is...o_O
catiaktita 11 months ago
@catiaktita you're not saying which statement you felt was hypocritical clarify, from you statements it is very obvious you're in the COA camp and everyother wife be damned, by having this viewpoint you deny yourself the joy each of these intelligent, far-sighted, and brilliant women brought to one if not the most intriguing times in all of England. Only the time of Iconoclasm in the Byzantine Empire was so exciting and had such far reaching results. there is no room for personal feeling here.
SleepWhenIamDead 11 months ago
@SleepWhenIamDead Loool ummm all of your statments look hipocritical, look at this comment for instance: "compare her to Elizabeth I who was very politically adroit in all matters and only executed people when necessary" the for necessary should have never happened, because those ppl still were killed. And if
you tell me that was because they were in a monarchy, I'll ask you, is it right to kill ppl if we're in a monarchy?

I really liked Mary and felt compassion for the pain in her life. But, I recognize her pride and ungraciousness with Katherine Howard in this scene and Katherine Parr too. Mary could have graciously acknowledged the authority bestowed to his wife by Henry VIII and taken KH under her wing. Mary also could have accepted people's right to their own spiritual beliefs, not arrogantly rejected KP and ordered Protestants killed. The clip actually makes KH appear gracious despite her nervousness.

Emily Blunt does a much better depiction of a more dignified Catherine Howard in the movie about King Henry VIII....Tamzin Merchant was so badly miscast for the role in the TUDORS season 4....it is painful to watch
kappleviolet 1 year ago
By everyones reaction to Katherine I presume that she must have been such a beauty, however the actress they choose to portray Katherine looks like she is only 12 they could have choose someone who was more appealing than her.
I don't think any daughter is ever happy when her father marries a woman who is 8 years younger than her, Mary was actually very polite to Katherine and she treated her as queen,
Katherine was very childish and immature not fit for a queen.
zully87 1 year ago
such poor casting for Katheirne Howard....I am sure the real historical queen did not roll her eyes like a high school idiot cheerleader...really bad acting
kappleviolet 1 year ago
@kappleviolet Well, Katherine WAS a silly seventeen-year-old. I think it's a good casting. I feel bad for both Mary and Katherine. They both not deserve what Henry did to them.
xGerdine 1 year ago
@xGerdine don't base your view on Katherine Howard based on THE TUDORS...it was inaccurate...they made her character silly and idiotic.....she was an intelligent woman who was forced to marry a fat, old king henry (not the young depiction you see in the TUDORS) he was a tyrant....did you know Anne Boleyn was Catherine Howards first cousin...she knew what happened to her and knew she was being forced to marry a monster by her family who craved power....
kappleviolet 1 year ago
@kappleviolet I base my view on Katherine Howard on what I read about her, I know 'the Tudors' is inaccurate, of course it is. I know she was Anne's cousin, she was also forced to marry the king. But Anne was a strong woman, Katherine wasn't. Even her relatives doubted her intelligence and the fact if she was mature enough to be queen. We know she wasn't. I do feel bad for her though, but she was just seventeen. Se-ven-teen. She couldn't be a queen at that age.
xGerdine 1 year ago
Mary is a cunning young woman and she could see right through Katherine Howard from the beginning. If she had become too close to Katherine, Mary's head more than likely would've ended up on the chopping block simply as guilt by association. She was smart enough to know it was a man's world--or to be exact it was Henry's world--and she had to keep as far removed as possible from suspicion of actions against him. Poor Katherine was apparently unaware of this aspect and it was her doom...

Strawberrykisses218 1 year ago
I feel sorry for both girls here. Katherine was trying to be nice but did she honestly think Mary would be happy to be reminded that her new stepmother was a silly, frivolous girl who was younger than her? Even though she was a little bit cold, Mary still honoured her and showed her respect. It annoys me that Katherine eyeballs her afterwards because she wouldnt eat cake with her, she's a born princess, I think she's got more important stuff to do than sit about with a load of gossipy airheads.
lechatnoire21 1 year ago 90
@lechatnoire21 well mary had kind of made up her mind about katherine beforehand. she showed respect to a certain degree but she didn't try to be warm or inviting. katherine should have expected this sort of treatment at first but then again she couldn't help her age.
lucyluuuxxxx 1 year ago
@lechatnoire21 I feel sorry for Katherine more than i do Mary. Katherine's trying really hard to befriend Mary but Mary doesn't want any of it. She roles her eyes at the end because she tried her hardest to be friends with Mary but Mary just declined and walked away. She's finding it very difficult. And yes, I wouldn't like it if my step-mother was younger than me, and a Queen, but they could have been friends but Mary decided not to accept. So I feel sorry for Katherine more here.
JessicaLouiseMusic 1 year ago
@JessicaLouiseMusic At first I felt bad for Katherine, because I could see she was really trying. But I felt worse for Mary because of the way Katherine handled it. She acted all petty and mean because Mary was the only person to act cold towards her. Compared to Catherine of Aragon, the 2nd Katherine was just a disgrace. Mary also hated her because she was the cousin of Anne, but Anne at least had sharp wit and intelligence. She was worthy. All of his wives were except for Katherine Howard
findleyrocks 1 year ago
@findleyrocks Katherine Howard is my favourite queen because I think I can relate more. Not the bit where she has an affair and stuff like that, but because she was a young girl, in her teens, like me. All you want to do is have fun and in those days to have fun meant to dance around in dresses and giggle, not like these days where its to go out out and get drunk. I think she was worthy and she tbh, Her friend Joan lied to her that Thomas said he was in love with her.
JessicaLouiseMusic 1 year ago
@lechatnoire21 I agree. But the thing is that Katherine has no sense. Before she was pretty much a silly whore with no education, no birth rights, no parents to teach her how to be a courtier, she only had her looks and she never really fully grew up. The King was only attracted to her because of those two things, and she made him feel younger. And with the King's affection she just grew more spoiled and thought that everyone would just do what she wanted because she was pretty and the Queen

noblebird9094 1 year ago
@Schaetzchen95 I disagree, it is the Christian way to love others and be kind to them, not spit in their faces when they're being nice. One reason Katherine made the awkward stepdaughter remark was Mary was making her so nervous. Mary was behaving in an unkind and immature way, and Katherine was being the bigger person. On the other hand, in real life, apparently they became friends for awhile.

Kratos8462 1 year ago

Katherine, though sweet, is just a little girl playing dress-up who had to rely on her posey (ladies), to agree with her, because she couldn't stand on her own, like Mary did.
mckfrr 1 year ago
@mckfrr That's because Catherine was completely uneducated, considerably younger and thrust into an environment in which she was totally out of her depth and unprepared for. Mary was older, brought up a Princess and lived in that environment all her life. Its a pointless and invalid comparison.

To be fair, all the Tudor monarchs had lots of people killed.

@stasiup3 I think you need to read up on Mary a little more, rather than take sterotypes and propaganda as fact...

@stasiup3 What would you do after her own father did to her mother? Would you be, in a psychologically way, be 100%? I tell you: no.

@stasiup3 you must remember though history has not been kind to her. And that is coming from an Anne fan.

Mary was not a b****. She showed kindness to alot of people who didn't deserve it. When do she whines? She held herself with great grace.

I feel really bad for Katherine. She was trying to be nice to Mary,
poor Kitty <3
annaboleynrulez 2 years ago 25

I feel sorry for Mary. Gosh, Katherne was Henry's fourth wife! Poor sod!

Princess Mary looks so regal and royal. Like a true Princess/future Queen Regent of England. Poor KH she looks like a child playing dressup.
