Well, Jared is naturally a fast runner. He has good stamina but what's somewhat rare is he also has good foot speed (he ran a 1500m in 3:55). In Coos Bay there are a lot of hills. Any run you do you'll encounter them here. During the summer he built up his base with high mileage, usually no more than 10 miles per run, occasionally up to 12. He would run at least 5 or 6 days a week. Then in training he would still do one long run a week and quite a bit of speed work.
Sorry, accidentally deleted last comment, but as a response to it, what distance do you guys run? We run a 5000 meter over here, which is about 3.1 miles. The course had a couple hills on it, but it wasn't extremely difficult. Jared's best time this season, which was the best in the state, was 15:29.
gawd that was awesome! 40 years since any pirate has been state champion...i'm glad it was jared. my dad said if anyone was to be an individual state champion while he was coaching, jared deserved it
That is definitely true. He's been such a great role model and has done so much for the team. I'm honored to have been able to be on the same team as him.

Spencer Lynass ran a 15:28. Jared's is the second fastest time in the state at that time.

Yeah I know that Spenser ran a 15:28. They ran those times while running with each other. I was talking about just within 5A.
