  • everything about this is so wrong! O.o

  • I wish that horse would let loose all his mistreatment and pain and kick her face.

  • what rubbish! the horse did a downward transition to trot on its own! so much for obedience training which really is the purpose of lunging

  • A fat redneck horsemaster , fml.

  • oopsie you just let your horse dictate to you which way it wanted to go.

  • umm u dont seem like u love horses at all

  • not lungeing

    freeschooling

  • @stargirlamy its free lungeing

  • It is also advisable that the person lunging the horse stands in the middle and talks to the horse genty pushing it into a canter when the horse has trotted and " warmed up" first.

  • This video explains why to lunge a horse and some benefits, but it doesn't explain "how."

  • i love your horse and good video!!!!good luck!

  • thank you soooooooo much!!!

  • That is a beautiful horse.

  • This vid is crap...urrr

  • Well first you don't want to be with an non safe horse because it will run you over! My horse isn't broke and I have rode her three times with my dad at the lead rope. She doesn't know what stay go trot canter is but also YOUR HORSE IS SKINNY compared to mine!

  • for all you people out there THAT'S NOT THE ONLY WAY TO LUNGE A HORSE you can use a lunge line to which is easier to train a horse than exercise it. BTW expert village...need to learn how to explain HOW there doing instead of saying im doing this now that. ( i do know how to lunge a horse)

  • my pony does not lundge!!! he kicks ut at me and walked backwards ears pinned back .... he was beatern as a youngster so he is very aggresive...

  • @kirstymoocow this is your fault not the ponys! you have obviously not had enough experience to train a horse to lunge

  • My problem with lunging is that my horse, which just turned 3, is way too calm. I have yet to find something that bothers her and every time I try to make her go around the corral she just stands there. I've been trying to find a video that helps with horses like her. She's smart and learns fast but I just don't know how to teach her to go around.

  • well, i know this sounds mean, but its not. get a lunge whip, and start cracking it, it that does not work, LIGHTLY tap her, and if that doesent work, chase her/him. and if that does not work, hit her hindquarters with the whip, not to hard, but to wear they feel it

  • @herewefly You shouldn't ever crack the whip to make the horse move. all you are teaching them is to run when they hear a popping sound and thats counter productive when your "desensitizing" a horse for riding. Lunging is about body language.

  • @herewefly WOW! you are all wrong!! YOU DONT WANT YOUR HORSE TO BE SCARED OF THE POPPING SOUND OF THE WHIP!!! AND YOU DEFFINETLEY DONT WANT TO CHASE YOUR HORSE WITH IT!!! YOU MY FRIEND KNOW NOTHING!

  • @snowylynn what do you mean horses like her! this is your fault not the horses

  • Wow! first of all... You People must learn to SPELL! After you have finished grade school come back and make comments, then maybe someone will pay some attention to you, other than that, its obvious you don't know what the hell you are talking about when it comes to proper horse care or training! Go Back to School you amateurs!

  • what about if the horse goes like cuts almost half way through the round pen when you try to lunge it? idk if the horse was just not "trained" to do it, but when i lunged her she bucked at me when i tried to get her closer to the fence cuz she was like a foot away from me lol (btw, not my horse!) but idk ive always had horses that have been good in the round pen and when i took her horse out it was like umm well then haha

  • hi. i had a big question that i have not been able to get an awnser for in any videos here, books or other riders. My horse hase started to buck and kick when i try to make him trot. I have a friend that helps me with my questions but my horse does not act out in front of anyone but me. My friend lunged him and he bucked once and after that ran lke hell. i am starting to get a little uneasy when ridding or lunging him. What have you done about your horse? Any tips?

  • most horses like to blow off steam when being lunged..has he ever bucked when you were riding?

  • @66ratfink13

My horse does the same, I have learned to push her through when lunging, if she starts, give her a tap and keep her going...i find my horse is to tired to be a pain once she has been lunged properly :)

  • @laurencdc you dont want your horse to only listen to you cause she is tired

  • @66ratfink13 its your fault he is bucking! you have not shown him that this is not ok! and maybe try free lunging in a round pin! but this is deffinetly your fault not the horses!

  • @MegganSays ! its your fault that she bucks cause you havent developed dominance over her and showed her that bucking is not acceptable

  • yup that horse was lame at the time of the video. There is more to lunging than just letting your horse let of some steam, it's the base of all ground work in preparation for under saddle work when ready. Always talk to your horse when lunging ...use the words ...walk or trot or canter , then you have taught your horse word commands, which in turn makes your under saddle work easier. Do not move up levels until you have acheived the 1st level.

  • ive never lunged a horse before so anhy of you people know how to lunge a horse can u plz post a video or tell me about it please ..... ...thankyou

  • ive given up on expet village, thats not the way ive been taught its a totaaly different thing!

  • did the horse look like it was limping at the trot or is it just me ?

  • i thought that too!

  • Yep you are quite right, it was definately lame. Who are these people? These videos are really painful to watch. PLEASE BOTH CHILDREN AND ADULSTS DO NOT TAKE ANY NOTICE OF WHAT THESE SO CALLED EXPERTS ARE SAYING!

  • @limitedchoice yea! expert village sucks

  • lol what a shit video.

  • it would help if the horse was actually sound

  • I rarely agree with a single word or action "expertvillage" has shown...especially this particular woman

  • waw this was really bad. it's just not lunging.

  • if you don't have an area to ride or turn her out in the chances are you won't have anywhere to lunge her!? lol

  • that looks like a horse that i know

  • thats free schooling,

  • This is not what i call lunging in england! i call this free schoolin! lungin 4 me is where u have a lunge line nd a lunde cavason on but b careful if ur a beginner!

  • haha. i agre be careful even if you're not a beginner. my young horse charges at me when i lunge her on a line

  • yh! my young horse is pretty gd for a 3 yr old he jus wont slow down too gd lol! wat breed is ur horse?

  • Not sure this is what should be used as an example of lunging - this is what I personally know as loose schooling. Also, cantering horses on the lunge or in a round pen is hard for horses and should only be done if your horse is fit enough. this could be a dangerous situation for a beginner :(

  • I live in England and I'm not sure whether Americans do it any differently to us - but what we use is a lune line, a cavesson or a bridle and a lunge whip. I stand corrected if I'm wrong, but isn't that more free-schooling than lungeing?

  • ok i under stand this type of lunging she is doing BUT for a "how to" vid i would not show this kind of lunging for a fist timer! dude help new people out by showing them how to lunge with a lunge line! i dont think new equestrians should go right into free lunging! serusly!

  • This is called being stupid and letting your horse do what he want's not lunging (this is also dangurous)

  • expert village people don't know what they're talking about.

  • yes! finally someone who feels the same way i do!

  • I'm sorry but this is not lunging, this is letting your horse run around you however it wants! Does she have any control at all? What is she actually teaching the horse?

  • Its still lunging. i did it with a marein a smaller round pin, and without a lunge whip.

  • I don't have a round pen at my yard, does this mean i can't free lunge?

  • yeah pretty much...or you can MAKE a round pin with lots of polytape but no....it would be very unsafe for you AND your horse if you just let your horse loose and expect it to run in circles...

  • If you have an enclosed Indoor ring, you can free lunge in there. Just make sure you block any openings they could try to jump out of, and be safe, wear a helmet.

  • You can always just lunge on a line with a whip. But building round pens is not hard.

  • It is advisable that you walk them and then trot for a few minutes at least, so that you don't stretch the ligaments to quickly causing injury or lameness. This is very needed in colder weather when the horse needs extended warming up prior to working under saddle.

  • @doctorcane the problem with no line or one line is you have no control or no respect thru KINDNESS (whip in hand) use two line and teach them calm walk and whoa under discipline. It is a bad way to break one in teh beginning and horses well broek should not need lunged to ride.

  • @scoohey Not true, some horses have hotter temperaments and can use a short lunging session to get some of the extra energy out of them, or jumpers to get them warmed up if the horse warrants it. Again, its all about the individual horse and their needs not some blanket policy applied in general. That's not safe and good horsemanship. As far as the lines are concerned, whatever works for you. A lot of warmbloods respond very well to one line as they've been trained very well to begin with.

  • @doctorcane yes BUT it is important to warm your horse up or you can injure them!

  • @doctorcane not true if taught calm calm will be calm no matter what the breed, I do thoroughbreds that i breeze as 2 yr olds and all go out of the stall walk to the track and trot when asked and cant when asked and all can trail or race well the next day! training isnt about pedigree it is about training. a horse is a horse is a horse. I have done thousands and fixed hot horses said to be scared or spooky all by training properly and in 3000 horses never had to EVER lunge one to ride one.

  • @scoohey I get where your coming from. I can't use a whip on my horse because he is terrified of them. He was a wild horse so maybe from when he was mustered he got the fear for them. Lunging can benefit the horse and rider as the rider can check for lameness and movement, good for the horse as it gets there muscles warmed up and its a bonding time too (if done well and rider is communicating with the horse)

  • @doctorcane yeah but it didn't exactly look cold did it. i do support the idea that you neeed to warm up tho, just saying...

  • thanks for this vid, i want to learn how to lunge lol thanks a lot
