@chickenboy808 In an earlier post, I mentioned that I understood why "duts" are used, used them in lines that I worked, and called them out in lines that I marched. I understand how they in effect serve as a metronome for the entire corps. I just feel that a world class corps has had enough rehearsals on the same show that an "external metronome" shouldn't be necessary in late July, early August.

Hey man, I'm center snare at my high school right now and I would love to be able to play in dci. But our high school plays matched and I've never been taught traditional. I'm entering my junior year. Any advice for learning traditional? Do you think I have enough time to master it? How hard is it to learn?

@stephws94 actually those are lightest and most comfortable harnesses out there. The corps I'm with, just switched over to pearl from dynasty this year, dynasty has great drums( when tuned right) but their harnesses are heavy as hell. So no this new pearl harnesses aren't crappy.

Great Stuff. But I would "tick" for every 10 "duts" if I could. Drumlines at this level shouldn't need human metronomes no matter how difficult M&M is. I understand the use of them ..marched in lines where they were used, but always felt they were unecessary, especially by finals night. Whose dropping time at this level?

music ensemble = everything.

good ensemble = good visual pacing, easier for the guard to do work at the correct tempos...drill is easier to do at correct tempos.

I just feel that as many times as you run through a show during the season, that internal timing should be there eventually.....definitely by the end of the year.

@Offbeat1000 The snare line runs the show, The Drum Major watches there feet for tempo, so the duts are more of a way of turning the whole line into one brain. theres a certain bond between a line that it gets to the point where you start walking in step down the street with each other without knowing it. So long live the duts" delivering clean beats and mean lines for years!

The Blue Devils practice at MARS- their practice facility consisting of 2 fields, bleachers, and a wooden "press box" with a shed beneath. this video was taken during the finals day rehearsal this year at the Indianapolis Colts practice facility, where they rehearsed most that week.

@PatsSoxCeltsHawks From my knowledge you can march as many years as you want from age 13-21, but to march all 7-8 years depending on where your birthday falls would take a ton of money, around 3 grand a season, time, and just a huge love for DCI. So i think you can march as many years, but every year you would have to re-audition and such.
