  • don't fancy this movie, latest version is the BEST!

  • love his voice.......... so sexy..... Toby Stephens is the best Rochester, ever!

  • Shouldnt have remade this there was no way it was going to beat it or even match up

  • @mccrocm: I completely agree. That was what I thought too. The movie lacked... well, it lacked whatever Ruth and Toby had.

  • Jane and Mr Rochester are the best couple ever, every woman should have a Mr Rochester : )

  • @annetekoul

Do not worry we are all entitled to our own opinions. Personally I love this version, but when I read the book I picture a completely different Rochester

  • I love this film! I think Toby and Ruth are deffenetly the best Jane and Rochester so far thumbs up if u agree!

  • This scene is my favorite. It makes me so happy.

  • @tallbeauty1982 came out already, dvd is coming out in august,

  • Für mich, beide sind die besten Artisten in der Charakterisierung dieser Role. Toby is awesome!

  • They have such good chemistry together! Either its good acting or they really liked each other!

  • @tallbeauty1982 i don't know when i comes out on dvd but it came out in march.

  • crying. crying everywhere

  • i love Toby Stephens as Mr Rochester

Timothy Dalton was brilliant as Mr Rochester in the 1983 televised production

the 1983 televised production it s the same as the book and is spoken in old English the 2006 version is spoken in modern English i prefer the 2006 version to the 1983 version i dunno who i like as Mr Rochester Timothy Dalton or Toby Stephens i would have to say Toby Stephens

  • I thought he regained sight in one eye!!!!!

ANYWAY amazing adaption 2006 and book!!!!

  • I'll share your bed Mr. Rochester!!

  • "I want a wife...to share my bed every night...all day if you wish" oh gosh~ XD

  • God damn, sobbing at work! LOL!!

That was so romantic :) I hope one day to find that kind of earth-shattering love. *sigh*

  • First time I watched this I cried so hard out of happiness!

  • we are watching this movie in my class and i believe its the greatest story ever!

i think its my favorite. tho i wish i had read the book first.! ahh i think i love Mr. Rochester. bahh both jane and rochester are a great couple! i loved the ending but i disliked the way rochester ended blind. that sucks but i love this movie still.!

  • @MISSJKAH I hope you read the book by now, but if you haven't, one of his eyes (the inflamed one; can't remember right or left) recovers two years after their marriage. He can't write or read much, but he can still make out the shapes and colors, so he doesn't have to be helped all the time. Also, he is able to see how his first-born has inherited his eyes!

  • @cinamoroll07 no i haven't read the book but i watched the whole movie. it was great i loved it. but i will read it one of these days, i hope rally soon. thanks

  • one of the best...Charlotte Bronte

  • this movie makes my heart melt ;););)

  • this is my fav part of the book/movie!!

  • I want a Mr Rochester too :o(

  • Mia Wasikowska will be a better Jane Eyre but Toby Stephens is the best Edward Rochester there could be

  • This is so deeply romantic. It makes me smile every time

  • My heart exploded into a million estrogen drenched pieces.

God, I love this adaptation <3

  • My exploded into a million, estrogen drenched pieces.

  • I loved this scene *o*

  • They may have no gotten Bronte's description of the characters spot on, but you have to admit; the chemistry between these two is the best outta all the movies. It captures the love between Jane and Edward really well :)

  • the 1996 version is so much better...

  • @shineyourlight55 nonsense.

  • the noises they make when they kiss are kind of awkward in a cute way

  • no, no, no!

  • so she was planning to, what?- leave the blind man outside by the river where he could fall in or get lost? 1983 is better, but none of them come close to the book

  • I watch Orson Wells and Joan Fontanne when I was a kid, ...I fell in love with this movie! I've watched the modern version. I will have to see this movie from what I've seen so far! It may be the best one yet!

  • OH MY GOD THAT KISS WAS THE BEST PERIOD-FILM KISS I HAVE EVER SEEN!

So romantic and passionate! I loved the book, and now I must see this full movie! Mr. Rochester, here I come :D <3333

  • I like this adaptation, but it annoys me how different it is than the book. I loved the woods, the stump, Jane sitting in his lap, saying "her who loves you best'- holy cow, I've only read the book 1.5 times and I can quote parts... :P lol

  • @bookranda I know!!! Me too :)))

  • omg its been a few years since I saw this, such a bluntly beautiful proposal, love it! I really like the 1980's version though, having watching it with my family, a special experience.=)

  • This brings tears to my eyes...

  • I love the way their shoes twine together...

  • I have such mixed feelings about this adaptation of Jane Eyre! The acting was fine, but Toby Stephens was way too good looking & sexy for the part of Mr Rochester. In the book Jane says Rochester isn't a handsome man. Yet Toby is very good looking & conveys the virility of a young Elvis Presley! I found his hotness distracting, but I plan to watch this production again, to give it a second chance.

  • Rochester is defined as not attractive for the taste of that time. Besides, TS adds more sarcasm and liveliness to the character, what Timothy Dalton (great!) lacks in the 80´s version. Interesting to compare how different these scenes are in both versions: Jane saying she´s going to her aunt and when she declares her love.

  • @Ruffian144 Let's look from another angle: at the begging of the book, for her, Mr. Rochester was a cruel, selfish and sad man. But when she discovers that she had fallen head over heels for him, he changed totally in her eyes. That's love!

  • It's the best adaptation!!!!

  • Am I the only one who thinks they act too modern? I don't think Jane had ever kissed anyone before...wouldn't she have been more reserved? It's all a bit too fast for me...

  • but by this time, she had already been kissed by mr rochester because this is the end scene. she had been kissed or had kissed him when he proposed. so she wouldn't have been as reserved now.

  • @polkadotpolka123 : Heeeee heeee I would not be too reserved when I see the man I love, it is just natural instinct.

  • Jane and Rochester kiss when they first admit they love each other (I mean in the book)

  • @freetobeme03 In my opinion, I think she was a little bit grown up: here, she is 20 years old (when she was 18, she was a gouverness, and when she was 19, she was living with St John and already left Thornfield Hall). And she loved him very much!

  • Toby Stephens "Mr. Rochester" laugh is the best EVER!!

  • charlotte wish u in hevean will be happy!:D

  • Interesting adaptation . . .

  • can you see me?

    *frantic nod*

    so sweet. ahh

  • Jea, this Rochester is too hot. :D

  • SOOOO SWEEEEETTTTT I love this book :'''DD

  • God,Mr. Rochester is very pretty,in the book Bronte said that Rochester was ..very ugly, but in all the Jane Eyre`s movies i saw he was cute, but it`s ok. And i think this is the best version of the book.Great job !

  • @Andr33axC Even the 1997-version?

  • Comment removed

  • Oh,i`m sorry,i sent a message to you.I`m a little confused,and google doesn`t help me. On google i founded 3 versions made in 1997,i`m very confused..

  • Such a fairy-tale.

  • Beautiful!! Loved it!! Jane Eyre is truly a masterpiece and this movie is the best!!!!

  • i think they are the best Rochester and jane out of all of the versions, they have great chemistry. i love it!!!

  • Superrr

  • Although not in the book, this scene captures the love and passion between R. and J. I love it!

  • It's not Austen's work, my dear. It's Charlotte Bronte's!

  • yes, this story is amazing, but is not by jane austen, is from charlotte brontë

  • Such a wonderful movie.

  • tremendous and so amazing adoption of the novel I loved it

  • Jane Eyre is a brilliant novel; definitely a masterpiece. This movie captures the novel's spirit perfectly.

  • Love...I want such love to be happen in my life.

  • he is certainly the best Rochester so far!!

  • I love the book. The first several chapters are slow but after that things really pick up. I can't believe so many people don't seem to like the book!!

  • Love this book too! My all time favourite. But i think Toby Stephen is the best Mr Rodchester ever. Love this line ... i always melt when i listen to it again!

..." we are bound together in some unwordly ways, sharing the same spirit. We are so alike ... when we ar...e parted, when you leave me. I believe that bond will snap and I would bleed inwardly ..."

  • to: aidakeyes

CLD SOME! TELL ME HOW HE BECAME BLIND??

  • @perraxxporfavor

thx for going out of ur way to enlighten me w ur sarcasm!

  • I love this scene!

  • lol i have to read the book for english 2 honor as well and id have to say that the movie seemed more interesting than the book :[

  • The book did not suck. You must be a guy. lol ;]

  • last time i checked i was a girl

  • It's definitely hard to get through. You have to really appreciate the author's technique to stay involved.

  • I can't recall how old was Mr. Rochester on the book? only that he was almost inbhis forties....

  • heya LaFara125 im redaing the book jane is 18 in the book and mr rochester is 38. he's twenty years older than her. it's a great book x

  • thanks! I've just read it too, and I was sure there was a mention to his exact age, but I can't find where it was....

    I appreciate your help!

  • How passionate is their relationship! The movie really helped me to recall the novel. The novel itself is very much expressive. To get a passionate man like Mr.Rochester as life partner is a great fortune. And the character of Jane is motivating and encouraging. Her self esteem and truthfulness should be imitated

  • thanx so much for posting this up..im reading the book as a summer assignment to get into ap english..and watching the movie helped...it was such a great movie/series..lol..thanx again..it helped alot!

    -liz

  • The makeup people did a wonderful job on his face, and yet he still looks so attractive!

  • the best ending I havw ever seen...

  • "You don`t want to be freinds?" she`s teasing him after all :P

  • beeeaaaaaaauuuuuuuuuutifull!!

  • Love is beautiful

  • Lovely, really lovely...great film, in English is more expressive than in Italian =)) The characters have got cool voices ;-D

  • We had to watch this for an english assignment, and our teacher stressed how ugly rochester is, aswell as in the novel. But he's so amazingly beautiful in this film... ahhhhh! hahahha

  • I love how strong of character Rochester is, yet he can so well express how much he needs Jane. It's so clear how almost nothing in the world could truly distress him except the loss of her.

  • best movie ever

    best book ever

    i love EVERYTHING ABOUT IT

  • Celtaelynne, I agree with you! Now, if you want to see a series you might like as much as this one, check out the 2004 BBC miniseries North and South. It's sadder than Jane Eyre, but it might be even more gripping!

  • I love the way this ends...there are only a handful of movies i would call great. This is one of them.

  • I Love Jane she is so strong and kind and sweet :)

  • Toby stephens really made me love Mr Rochester .I may never forget his happy laughing voice at the end of this scene.

  • @ntpl7366 Yes, that really touched my heart... *sighs* :))

  • I LOVE him! He is so unbelievable good in this. HOT too.

  • He's friggen HOT.. This is the best Jane Eyre and if the BBC continue to make more versions they will have to live up to this one! :)

  • can someone tell me what is it she says when she says" Your life s not yours to give up, it is mine, all mine and I ..does she say "forbid it"? What does that mean? (I am Italian...)" Thank you.

How many times have I seen this movie since buying it last January? 15? 20? My daughter who is 6 is so familiar with Ms. Rocherster I think she'll present him at her next show and tell, LOLLL IT (Mamy, you're watching Jane Eyre ... again?) - she may as well get used to the best at a young age : )

  • "forbid it" means that she will not let him do so

  • Thank you 000nine, makes sense.

I would have forbade it too!

  • I forbid it - vuol dire - io te lo proibisco. Comunque, e' molto piu' bello in inglese, vero?

  • The greatest love story ever told!!!

  • Toby is incredible with his facial mannerisms. He's so natural... And I dub him the most epic on-screen kisser EVER. Yum.

  • Don't you just love the look on his face when she says "your life is not yours to give up...".Brilliant. And his laugh is pretty naughty. I absolutely love this version of my favourite book.

  • He's cute/

  • i adore this scene - i adore the whole thing - especially Toby Stephens as Mr Rochester - absolutely perfect. And I love Ruth Wilson as Jane - beautiful.

  • what movie is this!? this is so sweet? :) i like how there legs inertwine also

  • Jane Eyre, the 2006 version from the BBC. There are many versions over the years, but for many, myself included, feel that this version is the best. Check your local library and you can probably find a DVD to check out and watch it all at once. Well worth your time! Then of course you will have to read the book--which will also be time well spent!

  • Its called Jane Eyre YOU HAVE TO WATCH IT IS SOOO ROMANTIC

  • she wishes....

  • lol!

  • I actually saw the movie first and it inspired me to read the book. The book is absolutely amazing. The movie is great too. Such a wonderful love story. Truly romantic.

  • i love how they lock legs in the end! jane + edward 4ever! :)

  • the novel is better. way musch more emotion if you get into it.

  • novel are usually always better, except Sleepy Hollow the movie is waaaaay better than the book

  • wow.. that was really good. i have never watched any clips on jane eyre because i also thought they wouldn't be as good as the book, but this looks really cute.(:

  • it is strange because I was addicted, and the characters in this film. Almost have to come see the youtube !!!... every day ... I'm a scene rendered completely ... there is no longer so beautiful love stories like this:)

  • I watched today 1st part. Why he's blind? They will be together at the end? Oh I can't wait.

  • AtracçÃo ...

    Suspence ...

    Misterio ...

    Desencontros ...

    Sofrimento ...

    Ambição ...

    ... ...

finalmente, o desejado AMOR !!! SIMPLY THE BEST ...

  • You are right, the original Rochester, although he loved Jane, did not have the same warmth about him that this one does. Truthfully, I like this portrayal better than Charlotte Brontes. This version follows the actual book better than most of them do, too!

  • :D :D :D

  • Yeeh!!! This version is the best!!!Warmer and more realistic then 1983 with Dalton & Clark!

    Loved it very very much!!

  • very cute

  • The best version-ever, I loved it so much! They act sooo good, and the chemistry is incredible.

  • Wow.... I've never actually seen any screen adaptations of Jane Eyre out of fear of being disappointed. But from the clips I've seen on youtube, there are a lot of interesting ones! In terms of appearance, I feel the Zeffirelli version nails it the best. However, I can't help but be charmed by this Jane and Rochester. My only complaint is that this Rochester is much too warm and inviting... I always felt Rochester was cold. However, this makes for a VERY VERY cute and romantic take on the story.

  • Cant agree more!

  • Oh man! I have the shivers. This is the cutest love story ever-not only is it beautifully written as a book and well produced as a movie but, the story is about the love of two quirky ugly people. LOVE IT!

  • I love his little laugh at 3:35 I believe. I just shuddered from it and my sister gave this weird look.

  • This has replaced the Timothy Dalton/Zelah Clark version as my all-time favorite production of _Jane Eyre_. The one with William Hurt was a yawn. The only character I had any interest in was the young Jane played by Anna Pacquin. This production with Toby Stephens and Ruth Wilson is the best ever made, with the Dalton/Clark version a close second.

  • I think BBC do the best dramas ever!! We were discussing it in my english lit class at college, how the BBC ones are the best. I especially love this version of Jane Eyre!! It's very well acted and the story is so romantic and it also brought tears to my eyes :-) I love it and I'm getting it on DVD for my bday in a few weeks!! :D 5*s *faves*

  • this series was amazing! they acted it so well

  • It would have been interesting to see Ruth Wilson and Toby Stephens work with a script where the lines are closer to the novel's original text. I miss so many beautiful and poetical moments and also the bantering and exchange of witty comments.

  • ^^

Okay, I've read the book, seen movies, etc. And I can confidently say from the 13 clips I've watched that these are the best Jane Eyre and Mr. Rochester EVER!!!!!!!!!!!

  • There WAS the full version on here before so it is possible Tuilelen saw this version

  • Apologies, maybe I was a somewhat unclear. What I meant was that I wondered if Tuilelen would think RW&TS to be the best ever if (s)he had seen not only the 13 clips of JE06 that used to be available here on YT, but seen or listened to 13 /different/ versions on Jane Eyre.

  • *g*

Sorry, guys, just an expression. :)

I know they're just brief clips, but just look at their interaction with one another: they really capture all the underlying emotions of the characters (at least, just like I imagined them). I don't know, I think they're a perfect match for their characters.

  • sorry for the question but this is a movie?

  • I think it's more of a drama adaptation series. More of a programme really. It's not like a movie you would watch at a cinema, but as it is a story compressed into a series, then sometimes you can just refer to it as a 'movie' I suppose :P :-)

  • For not even a movie but a series no less I have to say they did a good job in resisting to make her too pretty. In this actor she shows ability to be good looking. Not saying that they didn't tweak it to be more appealing but its good for a series. From the series I have seen before at least.

  • @judithj1:

wot on earth are you talking about?!

  • I know that the physical contact in the film is much more than would have been allowed at the time--he often stands too close to her and flirts shamelessly. But that is what makes him so sexy! Living on the edge--the original bad boy that your mother warned you about!

  • 19 th century virgin will not lay on the bed with a man. Especially with the man she plans to break up. It is like today's people dressed in old fashioned clothes.

I've downloaded Jane Eyre for free from the internet to my computer. You can load it on ipod. I've listened to it from my computer.

  • So many liberties are taken in the ending of this adaption!!! But I like it anyway, for it's own sake.
