Poor Sisyphus, stuck having to perform a task that he will never be able to finish. The gods are cruel to bring such a horrible fate to a man that only wanted to learn their secrets.
@roryhunter77 You think it's heavy? These were the days when childrens programmes didnt talk down to us, the audience. Today, it's politically incorrect to show children anything that contains real drama - it's all talking flowerpots, bright red balloons and cute comedy. The 80s generation had the BEST entertainment for their childhood.
@hcvang haha. brilliant. you could just have a point. too much goddamn flower power, happy nonsense - need to give the kids some exposure to the potential twists and turns of an average week (not to mention life!)
@roryhunter77 I mean even adventure shows like Team Galaxy, Martin Mystery, Totally Spies, and whatever is in style this week... they're cutesy cutesy fun... where's the he-man who goes through hell in half an hour, and then teaches our children a moral lesson in the episodes last 15 seconds before the end credits, based on the hell he just went through? Where is that? What's wrong with that? Those shows are still great today, why cant they do it on modern shows? Instead of talking down to 'em?
@alexbaxthedarkside Yes, according to Wikipedia both Ulysses 31 and Jayce and the Wheeled warriors were produced by DIC Entertainment. Jean Chalopin and Bernard Deyriès are major contributors of these 2 series.
THAT SYSAPHUS had free will the entire time, he could have chose to leave, when instead he chose to be a slave to the Gods. :O
also he was a king n his earlier life who lusted for immortality. So this was his punishment for wanting more than he needs and having no sense of self control.
PLAYING OUT A LIVING DEATH FOR THE REST OF ETERNITY,
one of the reasons the Olympian gods were so fascinated with the human race, they only had a finite amount of time on earth to do whatever it is they were put there to do.
I guess the Gods showed they had broke sysaphus's will by making him obey their will even when he thought he was rebelling from them.
is sad when he sais " SO NOW I KNOW MY DESTINY, TODAYS LABOUR IS THE NEXT DAYS, THE NEXT YEARS, THE NEXT CENTUARIES, FOR ALL ETERNITY I WILL WORK IN THIS PLACE...
reminds me of all those people I left behind from my crappy first job, they are resigned to the fate of repeating the same labour without the courage to break the cycle :D
Fair dinkum, the ending is so sad not to mention sobering... if I were wondering about in outer space and came across Sisaphus together with this planet, then I would want to help him escape too!
This part is definitely good to watch. I especially like the part with Sisyphus and Zeus talking to each other. The music reminds me of that used in Star Blazers.
Thanks kitty!

THAT SYSAPHUS had free will the entire time, he could have chose to leave, when instead he chose to be a slave to the Gods. :O

Immortality is a curse not a Blessing.
I know, Good stuff ^_^

Why diesn't he kill himself? Why not, not do the work? Why bother?
grobo11 2 years ago 2
Maybe he already has. Zeus would probably just rez him, just like he keeps repairing the machinery.

i GUESS HE KIND OF RESIGNED HIMSELF TO HIS FATE. :)
i gained immortality at the expense of his freedom, guess the point was, was it worth all that effort if ur condemned to play out a living hell?
DEEP :O

I agree. Way too deep and depressing for kids.

no way is it too depressing, I remember this cartoon from when I was a kid and I think I learnt more from it that anything else on telly at the time.

This is a pretty Haunting episode.
Its a shame we dont get many more cautionary cartoons anymore. scar some more kids for life ^^ lol
i love Sisaphus' last words
"Now I know my Destiny"
love that.

Also shows a moral sense in the Gods: they are not simplistically evil as might have been assumed from their earlier actions.

Cool ending, a moral and cautionary tale for the antagonist. Only at the very end is the sobering answer realised by him...
