I was there in May 2011 where they Reopened the track called now Red Bull Ring. You cant imagine how beutiful this track is. The whole track moves with the landscape. Its short but it looks like a lot fun to drive on it.
@TvLOverdose Yeah I never really saw any evidence he could out drive the car in the manner of a Rosberg, a Senna, a Mansell, a Hamilton or (dare I say it) an Alonso. I don't really think he won races the car shouldn't have won. I think all the drivers I have mentioned have done, much as I don't like some of their ethics and comprehension of the rules.
@TvLOverdose I would also add that that is just a personal opinion, I'm sure you would find someone who would argue the point, but it won't change my mind. That is my view, that's all.
@prolesorwell yeah i hate the 'tilke tracks' as well. long, boring, too wide, all of them look the same. well at least the A1 ring has been revived (as the Red Bull Ring) and will host DTM starting this 2011, so now we can see the circuit once again!
@MegaMrDamo yup i know, what i meant was his modern 'big' circuits like Sepang, Shanghai, Bahrain, Yas Marina, Korea, Istanbul... and BTW HT didnt design the A1 entirely but rather 'refreshed' it, utilising the older layout. Can be said its just like Valencia (street) where he used sections of the existing roads, and added a few sections rather than designing a whole new one. but correct me if im wrong :-)
@MegaMrDamo Unfortunately, it was (or is? But it's shame that from now on it will be used only for DTM and junior formulas) his only interesting track.
Probably, Yeongham is not bad either - last year it was interesting, but who knows, what it will be like when it's dry.. Anyway, it seems to be crash-friendly 3)
Brilliant driver, brilliant track @mercedesf1GER94, in Spain we hate the Valencia street circuit too, is boring and we prefer a grand prix in A1 Ring track than a race in Valencia. I love the first corner and the corner after the hairpin.
why all those new tracks with all those moneymaker buildings, this is the real f1, the old face of f1, not that newschool shit in the dark, where they used more money for the buildings then building up a good track..
We want the old tracks back, like this one, san marion etc!
@Raikkonennl Yeah, finally someone who says it like it is. If I just think of Ecclestone saying "we don't need two races in one country" and takes Imola out of the calendar I get very angry. Now they want another boring street circuit in Rome and take out classics like Monza, Monaco and/or Silverstone! And the next thing I get upset of is the Race in Valencia. They spend hundreds of millions for this boring circuit, although they have a real racing track already... Thank you very much!
If i could i would build the Österreichring as it was then and feature it with all they new safety regulations, just to please the FIA. You cant go around them. But why have to kill a track that good. Even the Mafia would call that a crime :O
@TheNFSRocket Gee such a mature answer! You must be the most popular boy in your elementary school! I bet you get Do you Like me letters from girls everyday!
@TheNFSRocket I just never really thought it had something special. I agree the elevation changes are nice but it's not that much of a difference. And the overall way it's been designed: Straight, corner, Straight, corner, Straight, corner. There are only 2 real corner combinations, in the last sector. If you'd ask me I would want to see magny cours back on the calender instead of A1/Red Bull ring.
I know the tendency is to make a longer racetrack. But these short ones like interlagos and hungaroring are cool too because shorter circuits put the heat on drivers when they make mistakes.
@Ferrariman601 Great to hear. We could really use another european race and there would be no better track than good old A1 Ring for that. I hope it gets back to the calendar soon.
Well not immediatly on the side of the track but at 2 or 3 meters of the track yes. Therefore it could permit to drive a little bit on the side of the track but not too much as they do.
Miskojones well said! overtaking is not about track width but about having different racing lines available, so it allows drivers to take corners with a different approach without losing any time. you can see that at old tracks like spa, silverstone, nurburgring. They werent THAT wide, you dont need to put 5 cars in the same line anyway.
Man this track is was fantastic. Curbing excellent placement for flatout operation. Full speed most of the way, superb. Wow this game here looks awesome. Im trying to get it done in 1 minute or less. so far 1:02:515 on my screen right now, with potential lap quick time sectors combined 1:01:828. I've got less than 200 laps in. My car top speed alone is 182 as im in f1 2001 ea ps2. Your car is way quicker. Im driving orange arrows, maybe i'll try mclaren later, i need burgers... lol
To let the track just fall to pieces is beyond me. It was a brilliant track, elevation changes, long straights, hairpins, fast corners. It had it all.
Couldn't agree with you more. Can't stand Bernie and his insistence on having shit racing tracks. Though im glad to see Canada back next year but i'd love to see this track and the Hockenheim ring. That was an incredible track, there was nothing like seeing an on board shot of an F1 car going 210mph+ through the woods!
its really sad the aspect of old hockenheim today... tilke should remodel the new part and let the old existing for the sports that really want a racing track, not that stupid crap...
i like your track choices. my two faves are canada and spain. but also A1, Hock-ring, Imola are all bomb ass tracks with character. but canada man, its all about canada.
By today's rules, Kimi would be deprived of this lap time for leaving the race track with all four wheels at 0:12 seconds.
