Even though I think he used mainly Gibson's when recording the blue album, the songs sound better live with a single coil pick-up guitar.

Dude, it was an old Gibson. The guitar was built when single coils dominated, in like 59 or something. The only humbucker that stood out of the rest back then was the PAF.

Most of the clean guitar parts of the Blue Album was played by a Fender Jaguar. It had a short neck that gave it a twangy sound.
