any horse can make a barrel horse. as long as they are trained right. any horse can do what it wants if its trained and wants to do it. I AM a horse riding and i would know
I own this movia and the first time i watched it i was Really wondering why they used A friesen for a Barrel horse. And if anyone has watched the movie they will know that in the movie they were going to put the friesen into a horse race....a horse race??? This movie does not follow any facts whatsoever because people don't race heavy breeds.

What I want to know for a barrel racing bred horse, why did they use a friesian? Friesians are more of a dressage horse. A quarter horse is a barrel horse. Not even a thoroughbred makes a good barrel horse.
Maybe in look, but they're not barrel racers. They're too thick and long legged. Sure, they can run a pattern and turn the barrels but not at any speed. A fancy quarter horse would have made the movie more realistic. Friesians are beautiful, but I'm sick of these horse movies, with unrealistic themes.
This movie had a good story line but... they needed to get their breeds strait! One scene its a friesian, next it is a quarter horse, then its a thoroughbred... XD then after that, who knows... lol whats next in line? a Shetland pony?!?
I love the long-haired male actor...But unlike Sasmudgeon, I find movies like this infuriating. I think they contribute immensely to the false beliefs of the general public that horses have some natural bond with humans that they're just waiting to consummate.
I agree. I know some people that are going to get hurt by their horses some day because they don't realize that it isn't like the movies and that they have no buisiness trying to train a foal when they have zero horse experience.
ROFL these movies crack me up. Friesians change breeds and people that have never touched a horse before can somehow magically train something that skilled horseman cannot. Riiight.
Many quarter horses are half thoroughbred, especially racing and barrels. Of course, using a Friesian in this movie is ridiculous....
