@infoseekrs the strap isn't so much traversing the length of the rifle as much as it's hugging you more. he'd never get the rifle to stay up his back or fall in fron ot him like he like he does with a normal sling. the strap is attached to an easily adjustable buckle that allows for a greater number of positions than a normal sling.
I went with a Blackhawk 3 point universal swift sling with the quick cam buckle can transition to weak side for instance if you needed to look around a corner so in essence it becomes a 1 point sling then with a pull of a strap your back to 3 point
good vid, i had one on my rifle, but i couldnt get it right. it hung way down and swung everywhere, and on my back sat sideways instead of more up and down. just strap tightening issues, thanks for the help
@gunfightercast I was actually thinking of going with the Blackhawk 3-point sling on my Saiga, with a break away attachment. Have you encountered any problems or malfunctions with that sling?
I've found being left handed using a three point on an AR type weapon makes my head explode. I always have a problem with the brass hitting the sling and stuff. Personally my fav is a good old 2 point sling. My favorite 2 point is the Troy its fast sexy and black just like my.............
Which is better depends on the situation guys. I used to use a 1 point sling, but the issue was you never had 2 free hands. It's awesome combat wise and allows for good transitions, but it's a pain in the ass when you need both hands for something. A 3 point's the opposite, allows you to use both hands, comfortable when holding at the low ready, but it sucks ass when you get into contact.
I use a 3 point sling now anyways, I just got used to unslinging it and it's more useful all around imo.
I have a three point sling from UTG and I am not impress by it. I'm going to a single point bungee. I noticed my range of motion was restricted when carrying it around my chest in the low ready. I'm not military, but I have had an AR-15 since 2000. Thanks to everyone who has preserved my rights on the civilian side to shoot things and blow shit up. I would be right there with you, but COPD has held me back and I'm in my late 20's now. Should have done it right out of school.
Dont care 1 point slings are better in combat!! period. try going from standing to prone in a 3 point sling during an enemy ambush. Marine Corps should issue one point slings instead the to this date a standard issue 3 shitty point sling
@LuE0311 Try running in a 1 pt sling after youve transitioned to a side arm or carrying a fallen buddy/piece of a crew served weapon. When riding as an A driver, a 3 pt is better for dismount. When clearing a room a 3 pt can get in the way of shoulder to shoulder transitions. (depending on how you have it set up). One of the main purposes of a sling is to be able to carry a weapon without needing both arms (sometimes either arm). 1 pt slings always require a hand on the weapon while moving.
i guess no one told him that everything he just did with that 3 point sling a two point also does but lacks a strap that gets in the way of reloading.
Does the strap that runs down the left side of the rifle get in the way of the bolt release? I'm used to a standard 2 point sling. Does a 3 point sling distribute the weight of a rifle better then the standard 2 point?
Thank you for posting that informative video. The factory sling that comes with our service rifle is fine for exercises etc, but comes up short when used over long periods. Plenty of good advice and points for thought. Cheers.
@gunfightercast: Good video. I recently got into three points for my long arms and I have to say I definitely prefer them over traditional two point slings. I also have to agree with you about the carry method. The first method you demonstrated I've seen called "Patrol Carry" but the bulk of the pictures I see taken over there show soldiers using this method to a surprising degree. I personally like the front carry you showed for all the reasons you touched on. Works wonders for a pump shotgun.
@palehorseridder The OP didn't "endorse" jack squat. He stated a preference. In case there's any ambiguity, watch the video again. I clearly heard the words "not my favorite" and "happen to like." Now, I'm not a Marine. I'm a writer. As a writer, those words mean very clearly that he is stating an opinion and a preference, not endorsing any product, nor, by extension, stating that the Corps prefers one product over another. Don't be a chickenshit pot-stirrer.
I picked up the Irene Adaptive Sling for my son's airsoft rifle and it has a nice feature where you can sinch it up to your back when you flip it around behind you. It has a quick release buckle that lets you loosen it back up very quickly if needed. It also can be quickly converted to a one point sling and has a single buckle to quickly remove the whole system from your body. I'll probably get one for myself. I've been really impressed with it.
@RUBIO0331 . I understand that every Marine has a “badass” complex and I truly love it, but the fact is, you may not be the only one who has done multiple pumps to Iraq or Afghan. I have only been a Marine Infantryman since 1997 and still on active duty,(0351/0369) so what do I know? Its just a video that I made with my phone because someone asked me a few questions about 3-point slings. Everything in life doesn’t have to be a pissing contest. Good luck and thank you for your service Marine.
@gunfightercast i have to say you handled that comment extremely well and it shows how good of a person you are smeper fi and thank you for your service to this country we all appreciate you
Another way to put the weapon on your back from the 2nd method of carry is to toss it backwards over your shoulder. That way you don't sweep the muzzle at anybody behind you like the guy does in the video. It's just safer to keep the barrel pointing up, down or to your front (target).
Yeah, but it's a little tricky if you have to do it quickly because the webbing along the opposite side of the weapon tends to get in the way of the trigger. If you're not in a close quarters combat situation, it's not a bad option, but it can definitely be tricky when switching hands. Little trick I learned from the marines is popping the corner...great tactic in urban combat, difficult to accomplish with this sling. Nice video.
Check that, the bigger issue is that the way the sling connects to the weapon on the stock limits the movement of the stock to the opposite shoulder. Both are issues when switching hands, though.
Great video, however you have the sling set up like a 2-point sling. I have the same black hawk 3-point and the third connection point should be much closer to your body instead of all the way toward the front sling connection point. If your gonna put it your more way than you might as well just have a 2 pointer
good informative demo, good job! And for those of you that think dry firing a modern centerfire will hurt it, you have no clue what you're talking about.
Dry firing won't hurt a modern weapon. Not saying I'd sit in my living room and dry fire 2000 times but it's not harmful on occasion for safety reasons.
Right! dry firing will not hurt an AR, M4 or M16 series weapon at all. Also that isn't a dry fire you hear. It is actually the selector lever flipping from safe to semi.
@gunfightercast I'd just add that dry firing (testing FCG) without an upper WILL damage your AR. If an upper is on, obviously make sure your BCG is installed (not that anyone would do that..just saying).
I agree. Totally harmless for centerfire (At least most centerfire). I wouldn't do thousands of dryfires without snap caps, but one before you put it away (Personally I don't do this) or one for a demonstration such as this? Absolutely no problem.
@gunfightercast ...and Marpat is a lot better than ACU. I recently read a camo report and MARPAT faired quite well.
