Developers I would love to work with: Nintendo, SEGA, Insomnaic, Naughty Dog, Capcom, Square Enix, Treasure, HAL Laboratory, Bungie, Epic Games, Retro, Ubisoft, Konami, Rare(If they are planing to go back and make better game, IMO Kameo is the only decent Microsoft game they made.), and Platinum games. That would be awesome, or if I did start my own video game development studio, I say that I was inspired by them due to my childhood through the present.
These guys are lucky. They started developing video game titles when the industry was still small, and anybody can come and go as they please. Nowadays, big multi-million dollar companies like Activision are sucking out all the next level equipment. Which leaves smaller independant game companies to try to make whatever money they can off indie games. If they do succeed, the bigger company will probably buy them out.

do you want to be a game designer or game programmer?
game programmer jobs are easier to get and usually (but no always) make more (at the beginning). for game design go to something like the Art institutes i've heard are good. and for game programming look into computer science programs and then something that teaches specific game topic, start learning you C++/C# now though!
So where are john carmack, keen silverman, tim sweeney, john romero and so on?, people who really defined games in the 90´s. If it wasent for them, i dont know where we would be today.

"True" developers? A "true" developer isn't defined by their location in the world, they are defined by their vision and passion to take a game and make it truly a classic.
These people can exist anywhere, from the US, to Russia, UK, Japan, Poland, etc.
The more well known designers like Peter Molyneux, Miyamoto, John Carmack, Will Wright, etc have all made games that have had major impacts on the industry as a whole and helped shape genres of games.

try creating a java mobile game.. it's not easy.. but it's a lot easier to do on your own than a full blown competitive pc/xbox/ps3 game..
that's what i'm doing with a couple of friends =D
you can find easily online very good books that teach you from the idea to programming, designing and promoting and selling the java me games.. start living the dream ;D

i want to be a game programmer one day. Right now, i'm eighteen and i am learning Visual Basic in High School. I was terrible in the first quarter and second quarter. I am not doing as great, but i got way much better. the first game that i made was tic tac toe on vb and i was happy. I will learn Java in college but i know that program is much harder to learn as VB. I don't care tho. I love it. :)
