"Israfel: The Life and Times of Edgar Allan Poe by Hervey Allen

This excellent read has been a foundational reference for ALL biographies written since it was first published. This is a Must Read for any Poe devotee.

I suggest buying a good used copy from Abebooks(dot)com. The reason is that it contains many wonderful Poe pictures and photos of the buildings he lived and worked in that are no longer standing.

The main problem i have is Poe was 30 when he died yet all the men who portray him always seem to be in their late 40s or 50s. I am attending the 170th anniversary of his funeral this sunday though hosted by John Astin in Baltimore.

(on a side note they defeintly didnt fim this in baltimroe eventhough sevearl of the locations are around still that Poe went to including the cemetery and the hospital where he died
