  • I don't know whether they had an actual drummer perform this song or if it's a generated drum track, but listening to it now, it's -really- well done.

  • lol look at the pop up.

  • funny thing is, up until 1997, SEGA has exclusive rights to Daytona International Speedway, which is why NASCAR 2 didn't have it.

  • Awesome.

  • The sounds it plays when AM2 and Sega Sports logos pop up just sounds so... So retro! As if you couldn't tell it was an old game.

  • broken download link

  • I remember when a group of friends hung out in the arcade and always turned that machine off.

  • Arcade one is better view clearer

  • thank you Captain Obvious

  • Best Nascar Game EVER.

  • DAAAAYTONAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGHHHHAAA!!!!!

    *dead*

  • I always thought he was singing "Getting younger!" ...which would be weird.

  • God this brings back memories. Though, I have to admit, this was REALLY annoying when I had to hear this on loop when nobody played this at arcades.

WHY WON'T HE STOP SCREAMING DAYEETONAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!! XD Fav'd

  • Thanks for providing the link, I really enjoy the Daytona songs. Cheers mate.

  • LOL, off the arcade cab: "DON'T TRASH IT, RECYCLE IT!!!111"

  • Best Daytona Game Ever.

    DAYTONAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

  • DAAYBONAAAAAAAA!

  • doot da doot doot doot doot

    DAYTONAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

  • #1 way to make an arcade game awesome: Give it an awesome intro track like this one.

  • I remember this game.

  • DaytoooonaaaaaaaaAGH!

  • that particular strip was GREAT! X-D

  • but... daytona usa plays very good NASCAR doesnt and will never...

  • There's a difference. First, Daytona USA is not the highest arcade grossing game for nothing. They still produce PCBs and cabinets nowadays, 15 years after the first! Second, DU is a true arcade game, NASCAR is more on aiming at simulation. DU blends more fun faster, NASCAR blends fun to true NASCAR purists. With DU anyone who plays and likes it will like stock-car racing. With Nascar you have to know already what it is to like it.

  • i use to work next to an arcade and hear this song on a constant loop all day. annoyed me at the time, but brings back good memories. awesome game too.

  • What happened to the dont trash it thing?

  • that was in the arcade version. This was recorded from the Sega Saturn home port.

  • aj0049,

You rock so dam hard! Been trying to find the arcade version for weeks!... Thanks for that =3

  • the past is coming back to me. ^_^

  • this was in a pub in magalluf. the theme tune did my head in.

  • use to love this when i was about 9 down my local british arcades in torbay. We use to have the 8 player link version. NOthing like going down town to the arcades when a kid and smoking

  • Thanks for the link to the MP3s!

  • who sings this song?

  • Takenobu Mitsuyoshi

  • thank you. :)

  • He sings like shit because it's practically engrish, but who cares? The music is great.

  • well we don't care if you don't like it. You're too young to appreciate this game and understand the huge influence it had on the arcade industry.

  • Excellent point. Young gamers forgot the arcades were the shit back then. I say "young gamers" and am myself 15, but it's mostly because arcades are dying out, and home consoles are replacing them. Obvious technology advance...

  • i miss those days so much ;_;

  • Me too. But actually, I'm planning to revive all this. Do you know NR2003? It's a Nascar simulator who has a great modding community. Using the Cup90 mod, we managed to do like 33 cars from all the games (+ some fan cars, and minor, filler cars). And i'm right now doing the Multiplayer Hornets for online play, just like at the arcades! (except this time there will be THIRTY-TWO cars, not just 8!) This is the Daytona USA Universe. ;)

  • I wish the TRACKS were ported too!

  • Ah, why not. But that's a lot harder... A whole freaking lot, actually.

  • Extracting the tracks should be quite easy, if the Dreamcast version is used. There is a program called "3D Ripper DX" which allows to save to a 3D model everything a Direct3D application is displaying, so it could be just a matter of leaving that application running in background, launching nullDC with Daytona USA 2001 and save the desired track.

I would try it myself, if my video card allowed me to update my drivers to a version compatible with that program.

  • However, DC emulation isn't even accurate as of now, so the idea, although quite interesting, is of no immediate utility. However, thanks a lot. I'll keep it in mind.

  • I have the PC version of this game... would that help?

  • Not really. Even if you could extract the 3D models of the tracks (which I'm not sure about because the PC version doesn't use 3D acceleration), the PC version has a lot of clipping, which means you would only extract the part of the track that has currently "popped up" and is visible.

The Dreamcast version has no clipping, so the whole track could be saved.

  • sry to barge in, but i think you're mistaking pop-up for loading on the fly :-X

  • Nope.

Since the Saturn version has been directly ported to the PC, I can show you in this video what I mean. Stop at 0:24: the Sonic sculpture is incomplete and the rest pops in a moment later. That also happens in the PC version, but not in the Dreamcast version. This is because the Saturn could not display all the polygons comprising a track and still keep a decent speed, so it compromised with pop-up. The Dreamcast is much faster than the Saturn, so it does not have that problem.

  • Awesome music. Unforgettable. We need to get a new Daytona.

  • On XBLA Arcade with Online Play..

    That would just be Wow

  • Dayyytoooooonaaaaaa!!Lets goa away lests go awayy!!!

    ahahahah

    maaaannn memories memories memories

  • Do do do do do do do do do doooooooo!

  • Daaaaaaayyytoooooooooonnaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!

  • Lets go Away!!!!

  • Day-e Tonnaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!

  • omg i remember playing this game when i was 4 i had a blast now its a memory that cant be erased.

  • i remember playing this at 3

  • same here!

  • I think I was like 11 or 12 when I played this game.

  • Unless the memory card corrupts...

  • DAYTONNNNNNNAAAAAA!!!

  • i just played this game again now on my saturn, im pickin up thCCE edition this weekend or week hopefully, lol, god i miss the good ole days :( also, stick the game disk in, the Soundtrack is on it ;)

  • eh, the CCE edition might have you running back to the original Daytona...

i am going to import Circuit Edition jap cuz i heard it's got CCE's graphics, but they fixed the control, and did even more with the music. either way it's worth importing. Same goes for the jap version of Sega Rally. it's the superior one.

  • Yeah, Japan imports are normally a lot different than their American or European counterparts.

I think Daytona USA Deluxe had the fixed control, too. It was an American import of a Japanese import of an American game.

    Which sounds kinda weird.

  • love daytona usa added to my favorites i got it at home on my arcade cabnet its 6 player. Its so fun and exsiting love itx

  • Youve gotta love the way the cars go round the corners as if they have a rope hooked on the back to stop them over shooting the corner!! Especially on the Expert intro!!!! They look like tractors on the way up the first hill on Advanced. But damn i loved it back in the day ;)

  • I still remember getting this when it first come out in Australia, i spent every spare minute on it and loved it too. But when you look back at it, i really wish they took their time and brought it out the best they could, cause god it was a disgrace against what it shouldve been!! (where as Sega Rally was damn near identical for game play to the arcade, Daytona was way off.)

  • eh, that was basically the reason why the released Daytona USA Circuit Championship Edition and Virtua Fighter Remix - to show that with the right programming and time the Saturn can pull off good graphics. unfortunately CCE didn't handle the same >_> tho i hear that the jap import labeled only Circuit Edition has the handling of the 1st one with the graphics of CCE.

  • Dead right mate, CCE didnt play like Daytona, so it just didnt feel right. I never played the Japan version, but it wouldve been perfect if it had the handling model of the arcade, the first release was almost dead on if not exactly the same when the red/blue or red/orange cars were used. For its day, it was still a bloody great game and credit is due. ;)

  • I was always a big fan of the pink car myself, although the manual horse (was it silver?) wasnt bad either!!

  • o lawd. i haven't played the Saturn mode in years, which would've had to been when i had my original copy of the game (i'm on my 3rd copy ^_^;;)

i liked the car that had A's in all 3 categories, and trying to race with the black car was funny cuz it had NO grip watsoever.

remember, tireless demo is fun (start race, go into pit, wait for tires to be taken off then be4 new ones are on hold A+B+C and press start so it resets to the demo and viola TIRELESS CAR! lol)

  • HAHA!! I remember that!! Was the black car the auto version of the orange car? I remember the pair of light blue and light yellow cars, pink manual and green auto, and i think the brown horse was auto...

  • I used to play this game all the time with my Mom when I was 6 at the little arcade in the Sports Club bar. That game was fun!

  • love the music, i uste to play this game all the time and loved the music lol. Many Saturn games had their own unique style of music, Saturn is it's own genre of awsome music.

  • Haha, I love that music. I just ordered a saturn and this came with it. Can't wait! :). Cool video

  • Daydoooooooooooooooooooooooooona!
