  • This is no joke... you've just basically proved to all black women that we no longer need curling irons. I want to send you a fruit basket or something.

  • Thank you soooooo much for this tip! I did the twist before roller setting it yesterday and it worked like a charm! I will be doing this from now on.

  • LOVE the dancing in the end lol

  • DANCING and HAPPY!!

    Ooooh Yeaaah

    Thank you Kim!

  • You are so funny. Love your vids :)

  • When ever I do a twist out I've noticed the sides of my hair curls perfect but when I twist out the crown and back of my hair it looks as though I've never twisted it, even when I twist and set on rods, it just reverts back into an afro with little twists on the ends. What can I do? By the way I love the kimmaytube conditioner it really makes my hair soft and shiny. Now I need a recipe for curly :-)

  • You are so funny! I love your videos! I am transitioning my hair at this time. I started about 3.5 months ago. Thanks for all the ideas!

  • Can you do this style on transitioning hair?

  • After what, eight months of trying to do this and failing? I realized it's because I always try this late at night, go to bed with wet hair and don't let it completely dry. Wow. Excited to try this after that wake-up call!

  • How many rods did you use I want to do the same but my hair is shorter so I'm pretty sure I'll need like twice as many.

  • Do you ever use weave as a protective style?

  • "OUCH! Don't be an excited fool!" I could listen to you all day!

  • ::sight::: I tell you, I was thinking about going back to relaxer. I feel like six months is the hell of transitioning. I feel like I have no style options. I'm a grad student and I have no time to spend, especially not hours, on my hair. Seeing your vids of how versatile natural hair is is making me stick it out. ::Sigh:: six more months, six more months...Great vid

  • are u a school teacher, i like how your voice over sound like we in school hehe...great vids

  • i luuuvvv the musiq :)

  • do you ever trim your hair? if so how often?

  • Hi Kimmay..do you use anything to set your hair before you put the rollers and the rods in???

  • I had a dream with this background "Oh Yeah" music in it, and it bothered me for a month that I didn't know what it was! I'm really glad I ended up rewatching this, wow.

  • thank yhu!. for everything yhu do. it really helps. im transitioning..im 11 months post relaxer so far.. so i am trying protective styles now. umm bt ma question is.... can i do this on dry hair, do it && go to sleep in them.... will i get the same results as yhu?. && if yhu have any more tips for me plz help b cuz im only 17 && im new to this hair care stuff:)

  • Your videos are great! Thank you thank you. Love them.

  • Does it make a difference if the flexi rod is thin or thick? Just curious.

  • Your lovely leave-in is so great for helping to create hold for our hair without the crunchiness. Such a wonderful way to moisturize! Thank you for sharing! You have inspired me to try different solutions on my hair that I come up with that are also pH balanced! You are awesome!

  • I have locs and I only use flexi-rods. They are much more comfortable than rods.

  • My 3yr old daughter said, ooh ma look her hair is so pretty I want curlies in my hair like that.

  • I'm going to try this today. I'm about 9 weeks post relaxer and my hair is looking terribly unkept. Thank you and great video!

  • Hi Kimmay. I'm a fairly new subscriber, so forgive me if I ask a question that has previously been asked, but:

Do you ever sit under a hooded dryer to dry your hair? If not, is it damaging to do so? Thanks!

  • @NaturallyBluetiful

Yes! I use my hooded dryer from time to time to deep condition my hair.

Heat helps to allow the proteins and nourishing oils to penetrate the hair, by encouraging those nutrients to bind to the hair's protein.

I personally think its fine in moderation. I don't do it more than once/twice monthly though.

Some people perfer to use body heat by placing a warm towel over there head (which is still heat, but not as direct or intense)

Flat irons etc. are INTENSELY hot!

  • @kimmaytube

Thanks for responding! My daughter and I are currently transitioning. I have always been a fan of DCing, sitting under the hooded dryer. I just wasn't sure if drying natural hair under the dryer for a hair style was good since it would strip oil. Thanks for the info.

  • I tried this style & I actually used the flexi rods instead of plastic rollers. You still seemed to maintain your style with the scarf & bonnet but have you ever slept in the flexi rods? I did- quite comfy. I only suggest it because then you wouldn't have to wait for your hair to dry. Also, have you heard of Dr. Akbari's curly fro? She has her own channel It takes me only a few minutes to prep and do. Curly Chronicles has done it I suggest watching her video first.

  • @ThatNaturalE

Thank you for that suggestion! :o)

Maybe next time I will try sleeping in them..Maybe lol.

Love Dr. Akbari, she wrote an AWESOME book about hair, focusing on the scalp and scalp issues. I'm going to be giving her a shout out in one of my next vids.

  • Thanks. I tried something similar and now I see where I went wrong.

  • @AthenaJD1219

Tell me, what happened! What went wrong?

  • You remind me of a lovely hershey kissed Lynn Whitfield.

  • @Papillonmuscogee

Oh, my gosh the ULTIMATE compliment!

I love her! How sweet of you. Yes, I am hershey kissed. LOL. :o)

    Thank you.

  • I have been so busy at work nearing the end of my training period. UUGGH!

Love the video, especially the dance at the end. You are too much!

  • @Giggra

    Aw, shucks. Thank you. :o)

  • Hai Luv, I almost feel bad not checking up on you...(have not been on YT to check my heroes for a long time), but good to see you and your educating vids..once more..brilliant.. a small Q though; the hair creme..was it a shea mix..? I really luv how ur hair came out.. like you Im still learning..tanx so much girl.! keep flourishing..! :)

  • @ManiSimone

Omgosh, heroes? You are too much! :o)

The Leave In recipe is in my recent Frequently Asked Questions video. No there was no shea in there.

    Hope all is well.

  • 60 HOURRRSSSSS OMG THANKS SOOO MUCH FOR UR EFFORT :D

I'll be using this style on my graduation day. I was looking for simple, sexy styles and i think i just found it :)

  • @fenixgirl86

You are WELCOME! Congrats on your upcoming graduation. :o)

  • Hi Kimmay, I rated this video and all the others...but Im curious, whats so good about ratings?

  • @msbrownbutter

You see the two video icons directly above?

The one on the right explains everything.

    Thanks for rating. :0)

  • was ur hair wet when put the rods in?

Want to try it when i take my braids out!!!

  • The results were fabulous, thanks for sharing!

  • That's really cute! I have to try this some time.

  • I did this style with flexi rods after my wash and deep conditoning and was able to sleep quite comfortably. It was gorgeous my hair was so curly and supple. Lots of compliments.

  • @vida130

AWESOME!! Thank you for letting me know. I will be encouraging you ladies to share your results with me more often. It helps to get feedback from YOU. Remember, I am working on a book for natural hair, I want the input of you ladies as well. Imagine if EVERY natural haired woman knew about her styling options!

  • actually I think ur way is better because you can never be sure if the rubber banded part is at ur scalp the if you roll from the bottom. If you do it the way you demonstrated then you can control where the curler locks.

  • @arialecxz

    Thanks! Great point! :0)

  • I have sisterlocks and will be trying this technique on my hair!! can't wait....

  • @sugardumplin15

Please do! And let me know how it turns out!

  • It looks great, even before you untwist. I look forward to the end result!

  • This is great Kimmay! I hope these vids are still available when my hair gets long enough to do this style! lol...braid outs and twist outs were my thing when I was relaxed, but I have big chopped so I'm patiently growing out my natural hair! I love your effort and dedication Kimmay! It is certainly appreciated! 5 stars!

  • Thank you for my next style! I hate that I didn't see this yesterday before I did my braid set!! I was wondering how you got your hair like that during your fashion shows

  • Sorry if I missed it but what did you use on your hair (as far as a setting lotion or mositurizer)? Very cute!

  • I love your videos!!

  • @MissElegant1

    aw, Thank you! :0)

  • Ugh! Now I want some flexi rods...lol. Cute!!

  • @KinkyKurlyQueen

I think flexi-rods are okay. But I didn't really notice a difference between them and the hard plastic rollers. I'll have to do my entire head with flexi's to see if there is a difference.

Either way, I'm not sleeping with those things in my head! lol.

  • nevermind....didnt wait til the end about the flexirods...lol

  • flexirods will probably be better than the hard rollers....:-)

  • @nphatuashawn

I don't think they're necessarily better. Flexi-rods are kind of big and awkward and in the way.

  • lovely video!!! u r the best!!! thx 4 ur videos..luv u

  • @futur82

    Thank you! :0)

  • This is great! I wonder if the flexi rods are safer for the hair over the curling rods?

I have to see if you did a video on your leave in. If not once you've perfected it, would love to here your concoction.

  • @mishsamuels

I don't see how flex-rods can be any safer, especially since they are cushioned foam with wire inside. The ends of the flexi-rods are of concern because hairs can get caught in between those white caps that stick up.

  • video request!! please show us how you wrap your hair at night. do you redo the twist and rods? or do you just put on a bonnet or satin scarf....thanks :D

  • @skinnybishiwish damn never mind...just finished he vid lol!!!

  • Both! lol. :0)

  • great vid!

  • Thanks! :0)

  • really like ur videos ur hardwork & dedication shows

  • Aw, thank YOU for noticing that, naturaldiva008!

    :0)

  • Nice video

  • Thanks, angellanick!

    :0)

  • AHHHHHHHHHHH!!! Part three please! lol

I love everything you do! Your videos are flawless. I do my hair like this too and, though I love the way they come out, knowing that you do the same twist rod set I do just made one of my favorite hairstyles even cooler!

  • @ princess722

Yeah, it's crazy that I never thought to try this sooner. But it's definitely my favorite style now! :0)

  • I love ALL of your videos. WHen I discovered your channel I stayed up for HOURS til the daylight watching every single video.

I can tell you're a perfectionist and you spend a lot of time making sure every video is perfect! Love it !! Can't wait for 2/14 ! I wanna try that leave in conditioner. Does it add much hold?

  • Hi kylanol,

I know the feeling. I stayed up all night watching the videos of other Youtube ladies when I first discovered hair videos. ;0)

So I feel honored to have you say that.

As for my leave-in conditioner. Still in development. It hasn't even been tried by others yet. So it won't be out for a while.

No, it doesn't have any hold. The purpose is to restore the hair's acidic ph after washing. That is all. Not for styling (except wet sets like this). Hair holds its own shape.

  • OH MAN!! Can't wait for part three!!

I so appreciate all the time you put into making these videos..just beautiful :)

  • Part 3 is up now. :0)

    Thank you, AfroQueenShae!

  • can't wait for pt. 3, i love the curly twist i would wear that style out LOL

  • Hi chisellecouture!

  • i was iffy about flexi roads but i now i'm willing to try them

    thanx

  • Hi kinksnwinks,

I think they're worth it, but I didn't really notice the difference in shape between those and the hard plastic rods.

I will be trying them out again in future tutorials for sure though. :0)

  • I love it!! You have an outfit for each new scene!! What a dramatic effect. You are too much girl!! I'm scared of u!!!

  • @25thivy

LOL! Believe it or not, some people don't know how to rate! I'm going to have to do a tutorial on it though.

Also, sometimes people watch the videos more than once, that can skew the numbers. So it's all good. I can see folks are getting the picture. lol. I get out of here and FINISH Part 3. lol. :-)

I'm EXCITED about LUV Naturals! Everything is falling into place. You all have no idea. I've got something for everyone.

  • @meteachu01

Aw, Thank you. Show your love by RATING 5 STARS! ! :-D

That's how we roll on Youtube. lol. We ladies work for ratings. Otherwise, there would be no point of us putting our free time and effort into this.

    Thanks for the love!

  • @n2xrcise

  • Runs to part 3

  • @JustSimplyTish

Part 3 is not up yet.

I'm actually working on the voiceover for it.

It won't be up tonight. But will definitely be up tomorrow morning.

Plus, the ratings have to reach 300 first! lol. Folks are going to have to rate me for my videos. I work for ratings! :-)

  • Thank you Kimmy sorry I'm blind ;). Oh thanks for doing a close up on your hair. My hair has a few strands sticking out from my individual twists that I thought I had split ends, I realize hair grows at different rates.Yours looks so incredibly healthy!

  • kimmay this is wonderful. my sister and i truly appreciate videos of such high caliber! cant wait to support luvnaturals!!

  • @clc929

Thank you!!! I am SO excited. LUV Naturals has been "marinating" in my mind for 10 years, even though I didn't realize it then.

I've only recently gotten the guts to make it happen and everything has been falling into place. Every sign is showing me that this is what I'm supposed to be doing. :-D

  • Very nice. I also recommend you check out prettydimples page as well. She does a lot of nice natural hairstyles that will look nice on you. She actually did this style on her page too. Great vid!

  • @Buddhalocks

I know about prettydimples, She's awesome. But I first saw this done by Fleurzty.

Most people already know about Prettydimples, but most do NOT know about Fleurzty. I want to give other (lesser knwon but just as good) Youtube Naturals some shine for a change.

  • Couldn't agree more! :-)

  • great minds think alike! I just bought those bad boys last week

  • @nwele

    :-D

  • Thank you so much for continuing to make great tutorials!

  • @ChrissieA33

    You're welcome! :-)
