  • I like the rhytm!!

  • Lol

  • You guys are the reason why I have doubts about jazz music and it's future development.

  • Here are the facts: NOBOBY knows what the meter is until you look at the score and see exactly what Russell put in the notation as the actual meter. For example, I could argue it is in 2 as opposed to 4. No one could deny MY perception, just the same that no one can deny parvenu and even the racist goldicus of their perception.

And if goldicus really needs it, I'd be happy to transcribe the drums and show him exactly how NOT in 4 the drums are most of the time throughout this recording.

  • stop the race wars, the meter is arbitrary

  • why does everyone have such awful rhythm? its clearly in four. what is this 7/8 9/8 bullshit? theres a damn tonic downbeat on every bar in the bass. how much more clear do they have to get? freakin whities... how you gonna keep a straight face trying to tell people this is an odd meter?

  • i mean for god's sake, come on crackas, the drums are playing in four

  • @goldicus Some folks don;t hear the same as we do, bredren. Just thank the creator for your gift and keep it moving. For everybody else: If you are playing a groove like this and trying to count I'm concerned. This is a case like George Clinton would say, "Everything is on the One." Bless.

  • its in four ya fag

  • You're actually going to tell people that this is in 4 with a straight face?

It's not in 4. Listen to the phrasing. It alternates between 7/8 and 9/8. Yes, that adds up to two measures of 4/4, but the phrasing is not in 4.

  • @Parvenu333 Every accent is not on one.

  • we need more george rusell music on youtube! thank you for this posting though, this is so funky and awesome and super super fresh. we as musicians should build off of the concepts that he and all the other great musicians of his time were building off of.

  • in four... the bass line is so asymmetrical that it tricks you into thinking about odd meters. great tune!

  • What a hip song. What meter is this in? It sounds like it might be 7/8, but I'm not sure, maybe it's 13/8? Whatever it is, it really swings, great solos.

  • @Aiden057 Trust me. It's in 4.

  • Thanks for posting this.

    R.I.P. George Russell.
