  • I have been blind for a few hours after a kick on the side of my head. I can't tell you how scary that is to be suddenly in the dark...

  • lol Mary's never hungry

  • 2:25 to 2:56 are some wise words. It's really a shame that movies and tv shows lack that kind of truth. I'd rather hear those couple sentences than all the explosions, vampire HD shit wrapped in one.

  • Whenever something bad happens on this show they always run off into the distance it pisses me off.. lol

  • @tracker415 Watch something else is all I know to tell ya.

  • @tracker415 lol. they should trip at least once, sheesh.

  • Ok. I find it kinda weird that my dad acts the same way Charles dose in this episode! The way he talks & acts & everything! Creepy! ;)

  • i cant sing, i cant sing, I CANT, help me i cant sing

  • @sexylady1770 Ummmm Childish Much...

  • @misseva9109 Yes absurd!this girl has no compassion.

  • @sexylady1770 Well then shut up is all I know to tell ya.

  • @TheMarkster1957 idont get what u guys are arguing about but i do agree lil house is a lot more apoppret than twiglight and stuff

  • 6:34 mmm Milk sounds good ill see I get a glass "See I get a glass"

  • This two part episode and the two part episodes where Mary loses her baby in a fire are some of the saddest LH episodes I have ever seen. You can't help but to cry when you watch either one.

  • @jennielced i doubt the greenbush twins still act. they couldnt act even during the later seasons after years of being around talented professional actors. this series is older than i am and i never watched the reruns until my 20's. when i started watching the reruns i actually thought they were mentally handicapped

  • @chibearslairs I doubt they were mentally handicaped. But they had no talent for acting that's all. They were lovely but not gifted for comedy.

  • Poor Mary, that made me cry just as much as when I saw it on tv years ago.

Do the Greenbush twins still act or are they out of the business and doing other things?

  • Funny thing is when Melissa Sue Anderson realized that she was going to have to portray a blind girl, she thought they were writing her out of the show.

  • ah carolyns face when mary screams, i can so feel the maternal bond. im not a mother but as an aunt and i spend loads of time with my nieces and nephews it could almost kill your insides if your little one is in so much pain. im sure a lot of you viewers feel the same

  • I remember when I first saw this episode - I was like 13 - and was terrified when Mary woke up screaming, "Pa I can't breathe!" I imagined sudden blindness must be like being suffocating in the darkness.

  • SuperBettyboop40, your attitude is truly inspiring. :)

  • I am almost blind in my right eye. it causes me to lose my balance alot and clumsy , they can't do laser sugery cause of a nerve pressing down on my eye and they dont want to screw that up so I live with it I see good out of my left eye and wear contacts or glasses. very thankful I'm not blind like poor mary . but if i was I would learn to live with it . I love life every way I can!

  • @SuperBettyboop40 Hi and thanks for sharing your truly inspiring story.

  • @SuperBettyboop40 That's a good attitude too have.

  • @SuperBettyboop40 My grandma lived with a similar condition. She poked out one of her eyes with a fork on accident, and was completely blind in that eye since she was a child.

  • @SuperBettyboop40 well thats good u arent u are very brave i will pray for u evrn though u seem ok

  • OMG The saddest thing ever my whole family cried non stop for 3 months

  • This episode makes me cry! :(

  • @mustwinder yeah, at my school no one really complains about useing thier canes or that they are different. We are all blind or visually impaired at the Blind School. Well duh, but still. It's a awesome feeling. I've often wondered what it would be like if I were to someday go completely blind. But that hopefully will never happen.

  • Jonathan has such a beautiful voice....

  • Wouldn't she have gone blind a little more gradually? I don't think she'd just wake up one morning and not see anything.

  • @GreenAshR47 I think, in a way, it was gradual...starting with the time when she started using glasses.

  • Comment removed

  • @lorelei22 Yes, but still - Charles tells Mary the doc thinks she's gonna GRADUALLY lose her sight, then in the very next scene she wakes up blind. Right.

  • @GreenAshR47 well she did gradually lose it,right after the doctor scene, those couple scenes before her waking up blind was the gradual..

  • @cabanaboi29 but how would you feel when you always saw colours and people, and then can't see anymore? and it's acting!

  • im blind and if i hear her screaming like that i would had punched her eyes out

  • @cabanaboi29 You aren't completely blind if you can find the f'ing comment box, nitwit! She was in total and complete darkness.

  • @CheekyThrill i use braille keyboard stoop

  • @cabanaboi29 Using a braille keyboard doesn't stop you from having to click on the box to enter a comment. Besides that, if you were blind back in the day this was set in, you would've have even a third of the comforts you do now as a sight-impaired person. Were you born with your sight-impairment or did you wake up one day, at 15 years old unable to see anything except complete darkness?

  • @CheekyThrill that's *wouldn't

  • @CheekyThrill i woke up this morning and i can see everything now. i threw my braille keyboard away

  • When Mary woke up, I started to cry, imagining how terrified she must have been. This is heartbreaking.

  • @9:44 I know something Caroline can answer to what Mary says here: How is anyone going to look at Mary in a blind school? Let alone feel sorry for her...

  • this episode was just on today. Never saw this show in my life. What a good show and great acting. Can't wait to see more on here or hallmark channel soon. ;)

  • if i went blind like mary did. after all these years i could see and i woke up to nothing?.i would kill my self. if i couldnt see any more.

  • melissa sue. such powerfull actress when she went blind it does make you cry out for her :(. and stupid charles was worried about the baby.and mary sleepted in? and no one Notice She did?.and charles was worried about the baby. Like he forgot about mary blindness

  • seth is hot . he should of went for laura!. mary lost her looks when she got older. but she is a very good talented actress

  • @mustwinder yeah thats true. In "by the shores of silver lake" (the real laura's book) ma, mary, carrie, and grace get scarlet fever and mary is blinded shortly after that. But laura describes her as being very brave and mellow and mary doesnt go to school for a year or so (at least until after the long winter).

  • we should be fortunate for our sight. this made me realize it. )':

  • This is very sad poor Mary.

Why dose GOD let things like this happen?

  • @MrDeCorey because there is no god,or he simply doesn't care.

  • This must've been so scary to wake up and not be able see anything...almost like being lost.

  • Oh gosh, the part where Mary wakes up blind makes me cry. T___T

  • @Ainurah Yeah...I saw it for the first time yesterday, and it made me cry.

  • Wake up seeing nothing must be horrible! You must think you'll be locked in a cave all life. You must be despaired.Especially when you have seen.A blind born baby doesn't know the light of day nor faces, nor colours so it is different. He grew in total darkness. He doesn't know anything else.

  • ummm hes like the 3rd person to run away like wtf

  • I like charles

  • that scene is heartwrenching everytime I see it. she did an excellent job in that scene.

  • I don't like Little House as much as I used to but this is one of those episodes that still creeps me out, when Mary wakes up screaming. I honestly couldn't imagine what it would be like being blind. This episode was just on TV today actually.

  • This is such a sad episode!!! I feel so bad for Mary and Charles!!!!! :( :'(

  • What season is this episode from or is it from an season?

  • in real life, mary never marries

  • only a few minutes...

    ....enough to make me cry

  • i cried when she started 2 scream that is sooo sad i feel sorry for her

  • Now she has to go to the blind school where she'll meet her future husband.

  • I cried a lot... Poor Mary, she can't see... She's blind!

  • I couldn't stand going blind... Poor mary, it's hard to think this actually to happend... does happen a lot.

  • omg the part when she goes blind is so sad! it's hard to watch its so sad!

  • This series is my childhood!!!!!!!

    I ♥ it!! What a sad episode...

  • Me too, I started to cry when Mary woke up screaming. Blindness is terrible.

  • @IcepPrincessLiv222 i know when i heard her scream i almost passed out it just scared me

  • @IcepPrincessLiv222 so did I ITS SO SAD!

  • I hate this episode. it's so heartbreaking. but I know the real Mary was blind so it's just telling the truth.

  • Melissa Anderson is not blind. she portrayed Mary Ingalls who went blind.

  • Oh right, I forgot that this was based on a true story.... my bad!

  • what episode is grace born?

  • The name of the episode where Grae is born is called "A most precious Gift", or something like that... :)

  • thankies luvie :D

  • "i'm scared PA"

    "i'm scared TOO" quote me

  • i like pie

  • who doesn't?

  • I know people who woke up blind and this is just what happened. It must be terrible for everything to just turn black. I would not have been able to cope

  • you cried to? its just came with me to it was so sad :(

  • I started to cry when Mary wake up screaming...

  • Such a heartbreaking scene... :'(

  • why sis seth runaway

  • I just found out there's an emotional scene where Charles tells Caroline Mary's going blind. Anyone know if this scene can be found anywhere?

  • i cry here good tv......

  • why idnt themother go uppstairs with vahrles and give the babyto laura

  • yea why didn't she?

  • the eyes are the windows of the soul..in this case like u said laura had to be as a sister just help her back, imagine wake up u cant see, talk about panic, like hers, frightning thought...brrr

  • this is soooo sad! (the part she can't see any more...)

  • Terrifying, absolutely terrifying :O

  • Mary's aditude reminds me of Almanzo's in days of sunshine, days of shadow.

  • Agreed!

  • They both sat around feeling sorry for themselves until they realized what it had caused. Then they both had the help of two wonderful men Charles and Adam.

  • Yes, they certainly did... : D

  • We should've seen Adam in days that way he could have given the same speech to Almanzo that he gave to Mary.

  • @gossiphorse POOR CHARLES HAS TO TELL MARY SHE IS GOING BLIND AND NOTHING HE CAN DO ABOUT IT HE MUST BE HURTI'N SOMETHING AWFUL

  • @gossiphorse i know lol both of thiers were bad especially meddlesome eliza jane!!

  • Oops I mean when she is sitting on the chair and giving attitude.. She isn't dealing with this very well and I don't blame her. :(

  • When Mary screamed out I can't see!! I can't breath! I started to cry!! Poor Mary! :( She is not handling all this very well. :( I don't blame her. :(

  • same here!

  • melissa sue anderson did such an amazing job in this episode!

  • Im visionly impared and Ic an never imagine going blind in both eyes! I would be so ticked of for the rest of my life. Noy being able tosee movies read print books wriht see families faces. that would suck. makes me cry to think about it so i'll stop... poor Mary.

  • Thanx for sharing your story... And I totally agree, I don't know what I would do if I could not see at all.

  • @Emotional2000 I would have to just die( just kidding)! Part of the beauty in life is seeing green fields, yellow flowers, teal ocean water, a blue sky, someone's loving face. That's what I think, at least. I hope I NEVER go blind, or permanently break a bone, for that matter. But if I had to choose one, I definately don't want to go blind! It's sad and somewhat depressing seeing Mary have to live like that, but at the same time, i'm so greatful that my eyes are fine! Start a foundation, people!

  • @Emotional2000 I go to the blind school, and I think I know a little bit more about what it would be like if I went toally blind.

  • I let cry when Mary cant see :( That was so sad :'(

  • such drama..

  • the quality is amazing! thank you soooo much!!!!

  • Great and you're welcome for the epi! Happy 4th of July! : )

  • You will probably never find talent like this anywhere.......you go Melissa!!

  • is this one were she says PA PA IM BLIND

  • mhm, it is

  • I guess Seth just doesn't know how Mary will react when he goes to see her soon. If it was one of my friends, I wouldn't know what to say.

  • i felt so sorry for mary if it was a fake story i would be like ok but the fact that it was a true story makes it so sad

  • okay thanks...:D

  • they say the nearest school is in Iowa, where do they live?

  • i love doctor baker, he always acts calm and gentle, and makes pasients and their family keep their hopes up. wish my doctor was like that!! he doesnt even look up from his computer while talking and just wants me out of his office so he can take a break haha. but i guess it was quite different for doctors in those "good-old-days"! had like twenty patients all together;-)

  • i wouldfrak out too if i was mary... but i dont get it if adam lost his blinness fro falling but mary could of fall to lose her blindness too

  • Mary's blindness has been caused by weakened nerves, that cannot be helped... Adam got blind by falling, so that's different.

  • it was because her mom had scarlet fever when she had mary

  • I had scarlet fever as a child...am I going to go blind too?

  • this is such a sadddddddddd episode!!! =(

  • WOW! They do alot of running in this episode. First Mary, then Laura, now Seth!

  • Ah. Seth was in sleepy Eye. Just finished seeying the 3rd part. And I honest to god thought Seth left, cause he probably heard Mary went blind. My bad.

But let me just say this!!

I would have to say, MARY WAS THE BEST ACTOR IN THIS ONE!

She got into chracter, and felt it . It made me cry. . .

  • Wow- Just finished Home Again, and I have this, Goodbye Ms. Wilder, To See The Light, AND May We Make Them Proud to watch too. Not enough hours in a day.......:D

Do you have the one where Eliza Jane pretends to get married to Harv so Laura can get a job? THAT was an unbelievable episode......

  • aaaaaw poor poor mary

  • I know...

  • Amazing episode!

  • Thanks Saymyname280! :)

  • Hey lalaoser223! I'm a girl, not a man. LOL Anyhoo, you're very welcome for the vids. :)

  • poor mary... i would hate being blind...but thanks for posting this! i missed it and wanted to see it sooo badly! you rule :D

  • You're welcome Mdogmax11 and thanks so much for the compliment. It really made my day! Enjoy! :)

  • wow i though she fell or something, i did not think something like this would happen to her, its sooo sad

  • i think going blind is the most awefull thing ever

  • Me too aliciabrissou! I don't know what I'd do if I lost my eyesight. Poor Mary...

  • After thinking about this episode, I suddenly had a bad dream about going blind myself. I'm an artist who loves to draw. And I don't know how I would handle a bad situation if I lost my eyesight. I'd be scared and angry for the rest of my life if I was never to draw, see my favorite movies, write, play games, or read my favorite books ever again. Worst of all, I would never see my friends' or families' faces again. How can anyone enjoy life when all you see is darkness?

  • So do I. If I ever became blind, I would be scared to death and never get used to it!

  • Me too!!

  • LOL!! Classic! The "TARA" maneuver! Finally it has a name...when LHOP was first run on TV, we would always say, "looks like it's time for a turn and run!". Laura was the Queen of TARAs! :D Too funny! Thanks Emotional2000 for posting yet another fantastic epi!

  • Thanks for your comment hawkwind5! I think "TARA" is the perfect word for it...:) Anyhoo, you're welcome for the epi and stay tune for more Little House!

  • Omg, my sister and I always would laugh about that too!! "Better run!!" No one walks on this show, even from the barn to the house! Too funny :)

  • yeah when you think about it yeah they doo but thats what i would do

  • I always laugh hysterically when Jonathan tells Seth Mary is "a losin her sight". Seth's TARA , TARA = Turns And Runs Away, (Television Without Pity shoutout) is priceless. People are always turning and running away on this show when they get bad news. LOL.

  • LOL! Too funny...:)
