  • Where did you find it?

  • This is the first time I see a video of him. This is awesome.

  • It is such a shame that Rachmaninoff did not allow filming of his performances. A great loss for pianists and music lovers. It is fortunate that we can see Paderewski in a movie playing Liszt.

  • He had an aristocratic deportment, too. Gosh, this man is so inspiring!

  • Wow! There was video way back then? i didn't even think they had even invented electricity yet! It's kind of freaky seeing people back then. Almost like looking into a parallel universe!

  • We savor these little bits and pieces of this genius of music. Most everybody who knew him is probably gone by now, so this is our link with the past.

  • I about cried. Wow. He's such an inspiration...

  • same...and i can't imagine i see rachmaninoff moving,he is from 1940s

  • Rachmaninoff died in the 1940s, he is much younger here.

  • Wonderful

    Thanks for posting

  • LOL, the ever present problem with videos, or in the those days movie...what should have been a still picture was taken as a movie and the poor subject never knows quite what to do with themselves. Rachmaninoff was brilliant.

  • I'm seriously in love with this man. ;)

  • Me too!

  • and me.... :-]

  • Me too!!!!

I mean the film just makes one want to hug him xD.

  • @0majtyna0 I want to hug him too ahahha xD

  • is that Hugh Laurie narrating?

  • If you watch Tony Palmer's movie The Harvest of Sorrow, there are lots of private videos of Rachmaninoff, made during family meetings. A true gold mine.

  • Amazing that there actually is video of Rachmaninov him self!

  • He's HUGE but he wins. :)

  • It's incredible to can see the great Rachmaninoff. Thank very much for posting this video.

  • There are great recordings of him playing the Prelude in G as well as Henselts 'If I were a bird', what a great talent!

  • =')

i've never tought to find this

  • genius

  • well that is a given already :D

  • thanks for the reply, now i get to watch it again before going out :D

  • I can't believe it, I never expected to find a film of him...

It's incredible. My eyes became full of tears as I watched him smiling. Amazing feeling!!

    Thanks a lot!!!!!!!

  • omg i can't believe i just watch a video of the best piano player of all time! im so happy holy crap!! I would have payed soo much money to go back in time and listen to him play. Thank you SOOO much for posting this.

  • There are, actually quite a few recordings of him playing. I've heard some of them, and they're even better than I expected. Of course, there's the ever-present hush of old recording sound, but that's a given for recordings from that time.

  • hope to meet him in the afterlife to thank him for all he did.. this man changed my life in so many ways!

  • i really love this man.

  • O.O

  • wow

  • It's really too bad there's no videos out there of him playing. :( This is amazing though, just to see him talking so casually.

  • I would have payed alot to hear him talk...

  • Wow, it's very nice to see your favourite in video.

Thank you louiu! Where did you get this documentary?

  • seach the art of piano the greatest pianists of the 20 centry something like that and you will find the rest

  • Where does this video come from, could you please tell me? To my knowledge (and that of the Library of Congress), there is no video of Rachmaninoff playing the piano (they even asked his daughters).

  • Great video clip. Rachmaninoff's yearning nostalgia always touches my heart.

  • I live near his villa in Switzerland and I'm trying to meet his grandchild (Alexander Rachmaninov) who still lives there...

  • Please keep trying...

    those experiences are worth gold!

  • His music has become part of my life and will it be forever!

It gave me so many hours of joy and happiness...Thank you Rachmaninov!

  • im not gay but i love that man

  • Same here,I`ve had a crush on one man only, old and wrinkled:)

  • a este genio, mi genio debo

  • Thanks! It's from Art Of Piano movie.

There are two greatest composers in the 20th century - Sergei Rachmaninoff and Freddie Mercury.

  • Pfffff...wahahaha

  • I agree with the statement. Nevertheless, I would not compare Rachmaninov and Freddy.

  • This is the best video ever.Think about it,he is the only great composer that we have a chance of seeing smiling for a few seconds.Trying to guess the reason why he didn`t leave a video of his playing will forever torture me.

  • There are videos he's playing his concert and some other works but in private collection...

  • Whose private collection is that, the relatives`?There are the same rumors about Hofmann. What are these private collectors waiting for,the right money offer?I think the chances of getting big bucks for it are diminishing every day as less and less people are interested in classical music at all.

  • I guess relatives, yes right.

Classic vusic becomes more and more popular because of advertising by TV, radio, etc... - the same as popular music. But pop music icons are not such immortal in timeline. The price for such Rachmaninoff videos are arising every year as the price for painting arts. Yes, of course, big bucks could make these films to see the world! :-)

  • i hear that there is a video of him playing jazz in his home

  • lol :)

    grieving with you,though.

  • "6'6!", That explains it, his fingers had to be long too, and it was easy for him to master some of the full spanded chords of his...AwESOME....Rachmaninoff had a nice soft, delicate touch, as well! Truly, a great artist!

  • Thanks for the intelligent reply. I really appreciate it.

  • he's a lot taller than I thought he was. Does anyone know how tall this guy is???

  • uve noticed well.

    rachmaninov indeed was a giant.

    he reached 6 feet 6 inches (198cm)

also, his hand was capable of covering the interval

of a thirteenth on the keyboard (a hand span of

    approximately twelve inches(30cm))

  • Holy crap

  • where can we find the whole part of the movie?

  • Yes, he was the greatest composer of the 20th century, because he measured almost two meters...though little composers like Debussy and Ravel or Stravinsky wrote more interesting music ...

  • Wow! And I thought I was the only one who realised how awesome he was! Genius.

  • Rachmaninoff was the greatest composer of the 20th century and definitely an equal to any of the "holy trinity" along with Liszt despite what anyone says. It looks like he's saying "thank you" right at the end.

  • Amazing Rach,.. the best!!!

  • He is soooo handsome.

  • Ahh...Rachmaninov. Wonderful! What a composer!

  • Thats so cool! I want to hear him talk though

  • Such a treat! Thanks! My mother/sisters studied w/Madam Conus, a young student when the Russian Conservatory was thriving (& Godmother of Scriabin); many stories! Do you have anything on Leon Conus?

  • Rachmaninff belongs in the Pantheon of greatest musicians with the likes of Mozart, Beethoven, and Bach. Need I say more?

  • No. You should say less. The holy trinity can't be touched, not by Rachmaninoff, and not by your opinion.

  • What does my opinion matter to you? If you feel so strong about it I can respect it. So please respect mine.

  • Wow, this is so amazing to watch. Its actually him. I love him so much.

  • He SMILES! That's so unbelieveably rare of him, the "Puritan."
