  • Growing up, I was uninterested in the magazine's ideas of the 'perfect' woman. I am not a small woman. The problem for me was my mother. I have a hormonal condition which makes it VERY difficult to shift any extra weight. And my entire teen life, and for most of my 20's, I've had my mother in my ear telling me I needed to lose weight. That's about 10-12 yrs of someone in my ear saying, "Don't eat that. You need to get healthy." You know what? I am healthy, and my husband loves me for who I am.

  • @Apsenniel09 Also, it has taken almost 4 years of marriage to get me to believe him when he tells me I'm beautiful. Because while I may not be 'beautiful' in the world's sense, I'm beautiful to the one person who really matters, and I'm beautiful to God. And that is the thing that most women really need to understand. And knowing that, breeds confidence.

  • @dimransee I totally agree. :(

  • btw can somebody explain the barbie joke? lol

  • @MrSupasexi If Barbi where a real woman her breast's would be to heavy to stand up. Hence walking on all fours.

  • @ashevillenchomes hahahaha ok thank you lmao

  • Men are not attracted to confident woman. They are attracted to woman are not as confident as them. PERIOD.

  • @dimransee thats true, but that doesnt mean you have to focus on that. just surround your likfe with positiveness ;)

  • @dimransee .......oh please lots of ads make men look like fools....there are lots of ad with riped guys and dont forget porn....lol :) most if not all of us dont care and you should not either and i will say what i always say to women about this, the media uses your self esteem to get you to buy there stuff...it does not work on most men so they target woman so just be your self...you dont need lip stick or a size 0.

  • @ssscybro2 how many beauty products are there advertised for men which use the words lose, disappear, vanish, change, etc etc?? and in all mens beauty products ads (Save for old spice - i think that's the one, the guy who's like 'look at your boy look at me look at your boy look at me' etc) are like, the guy shaving then getting a cold beer and a girl lol v diff from women's! the terminology is different, the storylines are different... all these little things add to it.

  • @ssscybro2 part 2: women's adverts berate and insult women - 'are you tired of being fat size10 pig??? well here's your answer ladies! (Why is it always only ladies who need to not be fat?) eat this yoghurt/cracker/etc and you'll finally look acceptable to society!!!!' -- a guys ad "look at this car dude omg you are AWESOME dude and you DESERVE THIS CAR!!!!!!!! GOD YOU AND THIS CAR??...(cont)

  • @ssscybro2 (part 3) TOO MUCH AWESOME FOR ME TO HANDLE GUY, TOO MUCH AWESOME! HAVE A BEER! HAVE A HOT GIRL! YOU DESERVEEEEE THIIIISSSSS I LOVE YOU MANNNNNNN" i mean both are manipulative but why is it the women who need to be berated and the men get to be complimented? i think if women were complimented too it would work and they could reach a larger demographic (Say with weight loss stuff). but i get what you're saying, it's just so hard to not internalise when it's everywhere

  • @ssscybro2 LAST REPLY! (500 chars are not enough for me!) i think it's just easier said than done and you can be totally self-aware and know that it's the media that has put in your head this idea of what you should be and it's unrealistic most of the time and just an added stress people don't need in life, but because media is so involved in our lives it's just EVERYWHERE lol it's hard to not FEEL you aren't good enough, even if you KNOW you are. (caps lock not meant in a rude way :)

  • @dimransee Ya know what? You're largely right. Media outlets do harp on the beauty thing. Where us ladies go wrong is when we absorb all that fake stuff and then internalize it and beat ourselves up because we do not measure up to this false idea of beauty! I didn't realize how bad I was at doing tis until I was in my 30's. I just got tired of not feeling good enough on the outside. So I did my own makeover (of sorts! LOL) and know I am lovely as is, and you are too!

  • @turkeynerd35 this comment makes me really happy :) it takes so much to accept the way you look and just love it when you're a woman. you're an inspiration to us all!

  • @MrLaliloo & i don't have to act as tho you throwing out a couple exceptions to the rule is proving anything. lol man you are just totally ignorant.

it's sad, youtube comments really bring out the idiocy. (oh no! what racial stereotype do you have for me now?? or will you throw out a sexist one since you don't know my race?? i wonder what i'll see from you next! keep prving your idiocy, please.)

  • @MrLaliloo and yeah, i'm insulting you because i don't suffer fools silently! :)

you're the one upholding a negative stereotype! a black woman should be able to behave however she likes without having 'angry black woman' thrown into her face! god you are infuriating you've really pissed me off.

sure you haven't insulted me personally, but you're insulting a whole group of people and i don't have to act like that's okay just because i'm not a black woman.

  • @MrLaliloo lmao i already know you're an idiot because first of all, calling out racist stereotypes to try and downplay how rightly indignant i am (whereas you being an idiot, what racist stereotype is there for that?) and secondly - i'm not even black. i've already said that. and you're trying to derail and disregard the improtance of the media portrayal of people of colour by calling it 'whining'... you're pretty commited to pretended there isn't a problem! dumbass

  • @MrLaliloo there's been COUNTLESS studies on how media representation effects human beings and the different effects it has on the genders and races! i did my dissertation on race and media (and i read a lot about gender, too!) so i know what the fuck i'm talking about. and media obvs is not the sole contributer in every case of low self-esteem in women!!! BUT IT SURE DOES HELP AN AWFUL LOT! little girls are mirroring tv when it comes to their insecurities for fuck's sake.

  • @MrLaliloo and yes, as one of those 'other minorities', i agree. that doesn't mean it's a competition between us or that they're adequately represented. victory for black people is a victory for my people in media&will mean progress for all us minorities.

really, black women get the sassy role or the friend role - there EXCEPTIONS (the ones you named) but that's the rule - they're rarely the main char either- and black men get the gangsta role (when they actually get roles!)

  • @MrLaliloo yes i can because of the hundreds and hundred of shows and movies that are the polar opposite. and bond girl as your example? sin city? pinnacle of sexy DESPITE being smart.... their beauty is the primary point of their characters.

  • @MrLaliloo 4 90's/early2000's projects out of the hundreds and thousands?

  • the photo op and mirror part is only true for ugly women.

  • hahahahahahahahahhahhahahaaha wetting myself

  • @gadgetmanjay also, men are represented by a variety of diff types of characters. it's not always stupid guys, there's the smart guys on big bang theory, there's the lothario jeff on community, etc. tv's getting better w/female characters but still, women are often limited to the silent, beautiful gf's, wives or mothers (especially in cinema). not a problem for guys, there's always a variety of characters out there for them.

  • @gadgetmanjay not really. all those shows have the ugly, idiot guy keeping his hot, smart girlfriend. they're basically saying, as a dude you can be as shit as you want and you deserve a hot girl who'll take care of you like your mummy would. women have these skinny, impossibly perfect women (nothing against hot women, but more variety would be good) representing them but men have any old avg joe's and it sends the msg that however stupid or ugly they are...it's all cool.

  • Fun, but seem that man is higher and pitty woman have to support, have to understand, have to trust where man dont want do anything just love as I am baby... as he a such a king... comon on ..... or what ever... any way feels "fishy".... when we start talking what man should do and work on himself in oder be happy with himself first of all, than try to really satisfy woman they love, why only woman should think how to pleased their dearest hasbends...? what about decreasing men expectations...

  • The Audience says it all for me. Microwave dinner and the Maury show.

  • am proud 2 b a black lady after this clip..

  • THANK YOU!!!!

  • LOOOOOOOOOOOOL !!

  • This guy is exagerated. Women love themselves with all that makeup they wear. They love to compare themselves to other women and they LOOK in the mirror.

  • Brilliant!

  • So... That's it :D Thanks for the info, hahaha

  • Well.. this didn't work for me xD

  • So no mention of personality/humour/intelligence then.

  • "Supermodels" are gross. Real women have curves.

  • "ladies, you know there are 3 billion women in the world who dont look like supermodels, and only 8 who do?"

  • :/ This guy's got a few funny jokes - but he's not that fast paced or really...funny. :P

  • This guy could not have said it any better

  • @ChallengeDK Barbie's torso is so narrow, that if you had a woman like that in real life she wouldn't be able to walk normally without wobbling or breaking her spine.

  • 24 people isn't married anymore...:-)

  • Tits, will do it for me. What matters me the most is how she performs in bed, if she's adventurous or not, dirty or treat sex as a brain surgery by thinking a lot about hygiene. Oh and no fat tarts. The principle is pulling them NOT to towing them!

  • @IIovefootball1982 lol, good luck getting a girlfriend there, hun.

  • @thexxgirlxxsmiles who needs a gf, i only want women for sex, nothing else. random no commitment sex and I already sorted it out :D.

  • @IIovefootball1982 all it takes is that one special girl to change your mind ;) ... you'll see.

  • @thexxgirlxxsmiles I bloody hope not as I'm enjoying freedom lol!

  • @thexxgirlxxsmiles Lol! Let the man be happy, will you? I subscribe to his philosophy myself, especially when it comes to modern day Western women.

  • I didn't get the "all fours" joke... I feel blonde.

  • confidence !! wtf , i want a hot lady

  • by the way, this video made my day :) thanx

  • What the fuck is with this guy? I'm not attracted to confident women. I'm not unattracted to them, but confidence isn't a point of attraction...

    This guy must be gay.

  • @ThePaulWog me 2

  • he is a little sexist the way he reacts. treating women like little girls who aren't sure of anything in life. his little sexual jokes made and then assuming the women are too innocent to understand. the way our magazines are just for us to feel better about ourselves. what a load of bull shit.

  • @chaostears Sounds like you're an angry woman.

  • Mark is too funny! Some people would come here and say something about him being sexist, but really it's all just for fun, you really don't have to read into it too much. Plus, he does make some valid points about women's sizes, though I know a lot of confident ladies especially with the cameras -_-

  • fun!

  • i love his videos but this one is a little off imo. the women, well, 'girls' i see most of the time have wayyyy too much confidence in their looks, they all think they deserve 6'0 muscle guys even if they are over weight and out of shape.

but i think it's a problem where i come from.. lots of douche bags or glamour peeps.

  • Super sexist. Why do you think women are so hard on themselves? It's not their brain chemistry. There are so many cultural and social factors at play. Basically what this video is saying is, "sure, you've been socialized to hate your body and your appearance, throughout your childhood, in tv and movies, through social interactions, but just be confident! it's easy and attractive to men." You know what's attractive to me, men who take womens studies classes.

  • @basementstudies

of course there are many factors at play. but this guy is specifically focused on the brain for his discussion. In fact this is only a portion of his entire talk. In fact he adds humor and exaggeration to make his talk interesting and engaging. I don't believe he discounted the social and cultural aspects concerning women, but that was not the nature of his talk or probably of his studies. If you want a cultural social view talk to a cultural sociologist or something.

  • @basementstudies "You know what's attractive to me, men who take womens studies classes."

Thank you for helping me strengthen my stand. Western society sure is going to prosper so long as there are women like you with the right priorities. Cheers!

  • @basementstudies well true. cultural does say to women that they should hate themselves in less there like a model. but at the same time it is as simple as just don't go along with it. really its not hard. i am a guy and the cultural says i should be a dumbass who does nothing but party and gets drunk and all that other stuff and you know how i handle it? i don't go along with it. its not hard really. so that is my advice to you.

  • im sexy and i know it

  • hey it's david liebe hart

  • hahahhaha that's what i want my mom to understand, she thinks she's too fat,i cant' stand this!! Saying it all the time....ive almost believed it,im too relax even though im not perfect or thin enough,or skin without any scar, but i feel comfortable with myself, and i feel great!!That's the point ....and i know it better than anyone the models are not like models most of times... im one of these PHOTOSHOP pers

  • Confidence is good but knowing yourself is better. Being confident in a body that you don't have is bad.

  • And then there is the fact that we are all getting fatter because we are eating the addictive crap that is marketed to us. We are eating MSG, which is used in laboratories to fatten rats for obesity research. We drink sugar water. We are told to eat lowfat and high carb foods devoid of nutrition even though a high-fat low-carb diet has been proven most effective for weight loss. We are told to do hours of cardio even though the resulting stress raises our cortisol and makes us store more fat.

  • And eating disorders and body dysmorphia are increasing in men as well, as images of perfect men appear more and more frequently in the media. Any anorexia or psych clinic will tell you this.

  • And the reason black and latino women are not as vulnerable to hating their bodies is that they know from a very early age that they do not belong to the dominant culture in this country. It is a game they are not even contestants in, so the dominant standard for beauty does not become the life-and-death issue that it is to white women. This is changing as emaciated nonwhite women appear more often in the media. Any anorexia clinic will tell you they are seeing more and more minority clients.

  • @whatnextiaskyou I think that's a very narrow way of looking at things. If what you're saying is true, then what makes eating disorders and low self-esteem more rampant here than in any other country? There are plenty of white women that would be these so called "contestants" in Europe but they don't seem to face the same problems that white women in the US are facing. And why would beauty EVER be a life and death issue? Of course I can't speak for everyone but it just seems so shallow.

  • What a knee-jerk, pablum lecture. Basically he's saying that women are stupid - they hate how they look even though there is no reason to. And he attributes it to "the female brain" rather than the overwhelming cultural factors at work that make even the most brilliant women fall prey to this. Yes, there may be only eight women who look like supermodels, but the number of images of them hitting my retina each day exceeds the number of actual women I see. And Marilyn would wear a size 4 today.

  • @whatnextiaskyou i'd agree pretty much anything image related is cultural... but that's actually part of the reality. Women are easy to influence, the media knows this, this is one of the reason why they are so targeted.

it's not only their self image that is problematic, but how they see their potential partners. we live in a society where young women in their 20s go for the top 10% guys.. i blame it on the culture also.

  • Lol woman are so overconfident in their bodies, and depend on their self worth from what their bodies look like. It's sad, as long as a woman is not ugly, I'll take a girl with a less attractive body and more confidence in herself as a person, over a girl who's obsessed with her hot body.

  • The proportions of Barbie are not humanly possible proportions, her arms and legs are too long for her body frame and therefore she would have to walk on all fours to support her body!

  • yeah someone please explain about the barbie thing!

  • is it bad? i always check myself out when walking past a mirror :s

  • LOLOLOLOL! "I'm too fat...I'm too tall...I'm too oily." Classic and on point!

  • Man I was listening why did this video had to end????

  • I didn't get the Barbie joke, about her walking on all fours. Can someone explain it to me?

  • @akram4179 If Barbie was real her skeleton couldn't support her, her feet would be too small to allow her to stand. Her chest would crush her ribs and lungs.

  • @TheHarasment aaaah, thanks :P.. I didnt get it either (A)

  • hes the truth

  • Hilarious... I like the way he acting and try to speak the black women's voice <3

  • I love this video

  • hahahahahahhahahahah he's soooo good!

  • LATINAS ! :-)

  • There is one thing this guy forgets to mention. Ugly women exist too. Yes many women have low self esteem and actually are VERY physically attractive, but many are ugly. Not only that, many are ugly both inside and out. Same with men. Not everyone has that inner flower that's just waiting to blossom. Some people just got a raw deal.

  • @khazal12 which can be overcome with confidence. I've seen it. Beautiful men with not attractive women. BUT, the women are always confident and intelligent and empathetic to others.

  • @Yalf111 yes but I'm talking about the girls who are ugly inside and out. They exist too

  • @khazal12 I suppose they naturally find their counterpart in the opposite gender? We'd hope so anyway for everyone elses sake!

  • @Yalf111 true :) lol

  • i was cracking up at 0:23-0:26!

  • HE IS ONNNNNNNNNNNNN POINTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT REALLY HE IS...

  • i think im more like the man in some of these ways lol i look in the mirror when i walk past. i have my photo taken a lot although im fat (but lost a lot of weight) i know im still pretty. people say im vain or cockey but theres nothing wrong in being comfortable in your own skin

  • SANCTUARY!!!!

  • .........tovabb mosolyogtam :)

  • wat u looking at?

  • We are awesome.

  • Best compliment to a woman "You look so beautiful. you must be airbrushed".

  • @Sortsitar well guys like to be in charge kinda like the alpha male its just in our nature to feel that way even if its by a little bit

  • "We love us!"

"Even those women don't look like those women!"

    LIKE

  • he over-generalises everything

  • @TC5EMPTY Well it's a bit hard to go over every possible personality in the short time he has. It would be illogical to do anything but generalise.

  • We love us

  • I going with sex !!! then submissiveness !!!

  • this was seriously such a light bulb moment for me. i'll never run around yelling "sanctuary!" again :D honestly, it's never gotten me anywhere

  • Now, here is a man that gets women...and funny too!

  • The mans BRILLIANT!!

  • loool, still got it,,, u have to point a gun (ur hand) to the mirror, wink at ur self and say still got it :D,,,

  • i love dis maaan... he is such an educator..... an there r bunch of ppl who don understand such stufff... learn plz... :!:!

  • okayz...how o become confident???

  • yeah i cmparemy self alot to the oter girls at sco. they are really skiny and theykinda look like skeletons. and im 13!!! UGH.. :(

  • Hilarious... lol. XD

  • Thumbs down for me ~ too stereotypical. It doesn't matter if you're hispanic or an african american or white woman, race has nothing to do with walking with confidence. It's how a person feels on the inside that will show on the outside. I for one am a white woman and by no means "walk" the way the pastor showed in the video. I do not hide and I absolutely do not act as if I'm hideous.when walking by a group of people. That was not a good depiction of how we are...at least not ALL of us.

  • Comment removed

  • @SwtSunshineL8R Well of course each of us are different. It would be illogical to expect him to describe every type of personality of a woman out there. The point in the end is, no matter who you are, what your personality is or what your ethnic background may be, have some confidence and respect for yourself. You deserve it because no one else can give it to you, which also means no one else can take it away.

  • hahahaha, what a disturbance, i am trying to do my taxes hehehehe, i cant stop laughing hahahahaha and only 8 who do

  • it should be a crime to have any one person laughing this much

  • YOU ARE JUST UNBELIEVEABLY TALENTED AND YOUR TIMING, YOUR DELIVERY IS SUPER DUPER FANTASTIC, YEAH! YOU ROCK!!!!!!!!! i am laughing so hard as i write, i just came though a tough time in my life, this was just perfect dessert, just what any smart doctor would order, i just put this on my desk top. Oh just let my husband be half as funny as you are and i will keep him for life. chuckle chuckle!!

  • Nice!good teaching ...

  • Latina women don't walk.....we model.

  • Normally Mark is good on the advice bit, but this segment is so lame. And a bit stereotypical. This isn't true. Not all women who are picky about their looks have low self-esteem. This gets a thumbs down from me.

  • @LynneMarie81 I think he's dead on. He says in other videos that not "all" women and not "all" men are the way he depicts them, however as a general rule it is the way it is. It should be noted that he generally exaggerates to drive the point home.
