I can sing in Gaelic, though often I don't know what the words mean. I pick up the lyrics from listening and watching, and trial and error. And I love it when I get the tingly feeling that means I got it. I'm shy, though, so that means that if someone passes me or walks into the room I break off midword and pretend I wasn't doing anything until they leave. 9_9. I think I would die if Celtic Woman somehow decided that they wanted me up there. I love these women! I wonder if they ever get scared
I loved her in Celtic Woman, but I also love her solo albums! She is so amazingly talented and I am using her songs to practice my classical/Celtic voice since I have never had training! I love Meav's voice!!!! :)
@92lovetosing Me too! Unfortunately, I don't speak Irish, so I often have to resort to singing Jibberish instead of Irish :p It takes me ages to master an Irish song! But they're often the must fun ones! :D
@Agnouchka29 The Irish English /r/ is pronounced more like than the American /r/ than like the British /r/. It's always pronouced, whereas the British don't always pronounce their /r/. British people won't pronouce the /r/ in hard, for example, Americans and Irish people always will. :)
@ImaginaryNightshade Okay thanks :) I'm not really used to the Irish accent to tell you the truth, much more with the British and the American ones. (I'm French)
@Agnouchka29 Me too, like most people who aren't Irish, I guess (I'm from Belgium) :) You don't really hear Irish English anywhere outside of Ireland, as opposed to American and British accents ;) But I'm really interested in, or I might even say slightly obsessed with phonology, so I'm used to paying attention to that kind of stuff :p
Of the many singers I've heard during my lifetime, Meav is one of the VERY FEW with a voice that will bend as she commands it - she has a range that's out of this world.
I'd like to see her back with CW but I do understand family has to come first.
One thing i see about all of these lovely and talented women is that they all had strong musical influence from their parents and relatives since they were all pretty small. They grew up in it, i guess to have such talent it seems to be better nurtured since childhood. Nature plus much nurture seems to produce such woderful talent.
I miss Meav and Orla and Alex so much, but for those of you who haven't heard, Meav and Orla are doing a Christmas Show together in September! They're taping it in Nashville for PBS!!! So it'll be wonderful to see them singing together again!!!!!
She has the most English-y accent; her Irish lilt isn't as strong as, say, Orla's.....it's just kind of interesting how they're all Irish, but their accents are all slightly different.
@balipsette well think about America, and England for example just traveling a few hundred miles and the accent here changes drastically. Same deal in Ireland.
@onegnarlyguitar yay, but Alex was the replacement for Orla. Lynn and Maev they both have extremely clear and high voices. To keep the arangement celtic woman would need some singer for the lower scales
Méav has two daughters.. One is stil a baby, her name is Katherine, the other is 4 and her name is Anna. I'm not pretending I know her or something, she spoke about that on her forum..
@irishmusicalgurl1216 no cuz they got didree as a sub cuz right after this preformance,in one of the shows it says meav will not be preformingg because she is having a baby so didree took the place
I've watched this video over and over, mainly just to listen to her talk! Irish accents are sooo cool, but this interview is great too. Meav has always been my favorite everything.
If you are talking about Meav...she is one hundred percent Irish. There were many reasons why she left CW, but she just had her 2nd little girl Catherine, we call her Katy, and she is gorgeous. Meav returning to CW is a definite possibility......we will just have to wait and see what happens.
Meav you rock! I love how you can go from angelic/soft to bold and beautiful with any song! Love seeing both your shows while you were in the states and I'm gonna miss you!
Yess.. She has a awesome voice, if she sung accapella in Danny Boy, or a mystical song as She Moved through the fair... . CW has really lost something beautiful
She can hit those high notes that I could only hit when I was a young child, but puberty has tarnished that ability, almost makes me wanna become a woman, oh but I'd never want that.....ouch!!
You most likely won't find her age anywhere. She has worked very hard to keep personal information such as age, family, etc... hidden. She would rather have people simply concentrate on her music.
Méav Ní Mhaolchatha and Lisa Kelly have turned me into a stalker, as of this moment. The other ladies in the production are classy too. Gotta love those difficult to pronounce ethnic names; in fact, Lisa Kelly birthname was Laoise Ní Cheallaigh.
