Would pay money for an hour long video of somebody typing on this, would just put it on repeat. The typewriter is beautiful. New owner is one lucky human being.
Excellent video. I love to have one of those myself but not with a math keyboard. To complicated. But a royal 10 is welcome in my collection. Yours is like new. Very well done. You're a good typer too.
Superb and good typing skill ! My interest in typewriters only developed recently, can't say why specifically but I did realise that a once prolific and everyday device has suddenly disappeared ! Then I had an opportunity to have a close look at an old one in a junk shop, very well used but still working. I was fascinated by the precision mechanism and operating efficiency. So, I now have an Olivetti Lexikon 80 which is a superb design and very well made. Just need to learn typing now !
Its so beautiful, I just bought a similar royal at a swap meet with pristine cosmetic condition ( it had a few kinks which i fixed.). the difference is, i bought mine for 5 dollars, the guy had no idea what it was, he said he just wanted the weight of his hands cuz it was heavy to lift. Mines valued at 200 bucks
@Giblinono The white dot was used for typing memeograph stencils. No ribbon ink was used. Look up memeograph on Wikipedia to learn about this technology.
Beautiful machine. I love the windows they put there just so you could see the amazing inner workings of the typewriter. My KMM has doors on the sides but it's not a very good idea to open them just to look inside. They're very hard to get back on. I hope I can find my own model 10 someday. Great video.
@RonTheRectum It won't run out quick. The machine will slowly scroll the ribbon as you type. On most typewriters you could probably type around half a dozen full sheets of paper to run the ribbon from one end to the other. Most machines will automatically reverse the ribbon when it reaches the end. You can run the ribbon back and forth a good many times before the type starts to fade.
Awsome! I have a question, ok, I also have a 1899 typewriter with an £ (English pound, currency sign) sign on it and these other signs ₩, ¥, €, $, ¢, and all the letters and a -, ?, ", #, }, what would it be worth, and it is a Remington brand.
how much is a typewriter like this worth in this condition? how much does not having the glass sides take off? How about one in poor, and medium condition?
Beautiful machine! The beauty of a machine like this--its mechanics, its simplicity AND complexity, and its feel--is something that is UNFORTUNATELY lost on 99.9% of the current generation. Writers appreciate typewriters for the connection they give between the written word and your hands/mind. Gorgeous machine, nice vid.
That is a nice classic typewriter. Do you know NY cops still use typewriters. I read they spend $9,000,000 dollars last year 2009 on typewriters. They probable bought typerwriters and ribbons, whiteouts and other stuff like carbon papers.
do they still make ribbons for vintage typewriters? i'm afraid of buying one because i may never find an ink ribbon for it ever again after i use the one it comes with
@TonyDent84 Ribbons are available from multiple sources: E-bay, office supply stores (but less common all the time), Ames Supply, and Jay Respler of Advanced Business Machines (732)431-1464. I buy mine by the dozen from Ames Supply for about $2.50 each.
I was VERY lucky to find a Royal 10 abandoned! I fixed it up and it looks just like the one on the vidio. Keep looking, Im sure with ebay and a little TLC you can get one too.
I buy new ribbons by the dozen from Ames Supply costing around $6 each, or you can get them from one of the many typewriter sites or on E-bay. I always rewind them onto vintage metal spools.
I would love to have a Royal Model 10. Sadly, I can't afford the massive price tag that most of them come with. If anyone here knows where I can get one for an affordable price, or if they're selling one of their own, please give me a message.
A Royal 10 has been my biggest dream for nearly 7 years, I just haven't had the money to buy one.
repackage the "in action" segment without the music. Hearing the keys hit the paper is educational for those who have never seen a typewriter. this is an EXCELLENT resource
It's a piece of art <3
Sometimes I wish these things would come with a handy usb-slot for my notebook.

I can't find the information anywhere, what is the purpose of the ink ribbon setting designated by the white dot that does not use ink at all?

@Giblinono The white dot was used for typing memeograph stencils. No ribbon ink was used. Look up memeograph on Wikipedia to learn about this technology.

@wickedmessenger1 Wasn't the stencil mode also used for typing on carbon paper?

@Titanic19127 I sold this one on E-Bay for $537 but it had the special character set. A normal one would sell in the range you mention.

I enjoy writing short stories, and writing them on as typewriter as gorgeous as that, would just be too good to be true.

What are you using for a typewriter pad?

It's a rubber woven product they sell to be used for toolbox liners, similar to carpet padding. Get it at Lowes.
