He said it took 100 years to walk a mile becuase 100 years ago Gary's grandfather came to America and raised a son, his son (Gary's father) went off and fought in WWII came back and started a family.

Gary now work as a Gov. in WASHINGTON about ONE MILE from the home where his grandfather worked as a servant for a family.

Why does he have to be associated to Asia? He's an American and that's how we should view him.

Great to see an Asian American getting out there in big politics though.

For the same reason as Irish or Italian Americans, and even the Latinos. Some people take deep pride in their ancestry. Besides, I believe this report was for CNN's Asian Business Program.
