Wow...the Wiltern must've been such an incredible place to see them! I would've been right up against the stage (although they still had seats all the way to the front back then, I believe). But being that close to Greg Lake...I dunno... I might have passed out! :P
I saw a great double bill in the late 90's, with ELP as the opener, and Jethro Tull headlining. What a show! They were both amazing, of course. I never thought I'd see a concert with two top groups in the same show, like that. It was at the outdoor ampitheater 'The Gorge at George', in Eastern Washington.
Holy shit! I was at that show! I remember cracking up so hard when Keith Emerson came out with accordion and beret. Thanks for this happy memory made real.
Great song! I among other things play the piano; I play instrumental music at a place in mid-Michigan ... Every night I do this and "Affairs Of the Heart" (from the Black Moon album), back-to-back .. goes over like gangbusters, people are spellbound ... Shows the power of this classic song - Padraic Smith
To see what he was playing was wonderful...an amazing stretch of his first finger on the bass stepdown on the accordian solo! Always wanted to learn this song...thank you for the video!
so a simple slip of the finger invalidates a fair comment? Listen to the album, then compare the voice- even allowing for the terrible quality of this bootleg its obvious time has taken its toll
Winter of 77 and like Amish i was a senior on high school and just broken up with a g/f and the song came to blend...i wanted to die...but i didnt. I just enjoy the song since
God, just rip my heart out all over again...too many years, bridges burned and love lost. I adore ELP and this is chilling. thx

@berrygirl1964 - 'THE MAN HAS STILL GOT IT!!!'
And he still has got it in 2011! (-: Just wish that we'd hear more from him.
Traces of his younger voice are surfacing in this performance. Beautiful.

Oh man.... I was working a BLOCK from the Wiltern in 1993. WTF?! Cannot believe I missed this show. Was it just him, or ELP?

Such a beautiful song! Does anyone know what the release date of the original song was?
AllenArt64 2 years ago
It was in 1977. I remember hearing it on the radio (I was a senior in high school) and thinking how sad the song was.
