  • God, just rip my heart out all over again...too many years, bridges burned and love lost. I adore ELP and this is chilling. thx

  • God Almighty this is gorgeous.

  • Wow...the Wiltern must've been such an incredible place to see them! I would've been right up against the stage (although they still had seats all the way to the front back then, I believe). But being that close to Greg Lake...I dunno... I might have passed out! :P

  • @berrygirl1964 - 'THE MAN HAS STILL GOT IT!!!'

And he still has got it in 2011! (-: Just wish that we'd hear more from him.

Traces of his younger voice are surfacing in this performance. Beautiful.

  • I saw a great double bill in the late 90's, with ELP as the opener, and Jethro Tull headlining. What a show! They were both amazing, of course. I never thought I'd see a concert with two top groups in the same show, like that. It was at the outdoor ampitheater 'The Gorge at George', in Eastern Washington.

  • I was there! Great concert!

  • Oh man.... I was working a BLOCK from the Wiltern in 1993. WTF?! Cannot believe I missed this show. Was it just him, or ELP?

  • @LolasTubular - 'Was it just him, or ELP?'

It was all three! (-: Keith was playing the accordion.

  • Yes this is the most Beautiful Version of this song EVER. His voice was at it's BEST here.

  • shamelessly beautiful.....yes it is !

"took a storm before my love flowed for you"

"all i needed was a rhyme for you"

"is there no song i can play for you?"

Gary this is OUR song !!!

  • great show - i won tickets

  • Holy shit! I was at that show! I remember cracking up so hard when Keith Emerson came out with accordion and beret. Thanks for this happy memory made real.

  • ELP is good for the soul.

  • Another shamingly beautiful track by Greg Lake. Thank you Greg.

  • Great song! I among other things play the piano; I play instrumental music at a place in mid-Michigan ... Every night I do this and "Affairs Of the Heart" (from the Black Moon album), back-to-back .. goes over like gangbusters, people are spellbound ... Shows the power of this classic song - Padraic Smith

  • It is a most beautiful song and originates from the ELP album Works Volume 1.

Thanks for the upload. Does anyone have "Closer to Believing"?

  • To see what he was playing was wonderful...an amazing stretch of his first finger on the bass stepdown on the accordian solo! Always wanted to learn this song...thank you for the video!

  • Greg needn't worry, we still think he's great :)

  • I think ya did good for a hand-held camera from so far away. Thanks.

  • i saw them several times and never heard them play this "live" so poor quality or not this is still good

  • so a simple slip of the finger invalidates a fair comment? Listen to the album, then compare the voice- even allowing for the terrible quality of this bootleg its obvious time has taken its toll

  • the phrase quit while you are aheadh springs to mind......

  • Why? Well, you can't spell, so maybe you're right and should quit straightaway. Look and listen but don't post! ;-)

  • I was there that night in 93 if memory serves me I think it was in march on wednesday. Great Show every one went crazy by the end.

  • .................a viejos eternos dias aquellos

  • somos muchos los nostalgiosos ante tanto talento junto, aquellos años donde cada grupo tenia personalidad, grandiosamente creativos.

  • 'Closer to Believing' OMG what a song, lyrics (and singing) hard to beat!

  • such a moving and touching song i will show you my love greg

  • Such a beautiful song! Does anyone know what the release date of the original song was?

  • It was in 1977. I remember hearing it on the radio (I was a senior in high school) and thinking how sad the song was.

  • Winter of 77 and like Amish i was a senior on high school and just broken up with a g/f and the song came to blend...i wanted to die...but i didnt. I just enjoy the song since

  • ELP released this song on their album Works in 1976.

  • Works came on March 17, 1977.

  • So December 1977 is not winter of 1977..is this what you are saying?

  • Who said anything about December? March 17, 1977 was in the spring.

  • @AllenArt64 1977 from the Emerson,Lake and Palmer's album "Works".

  • @AllenArt64 1977 from the album "Works" (Emerson Lake and Palmer)
