I saw him break a brand new cymbal in his first clinic song. Then he noodled on his Powerbook and so I went out next month and ordered the 1.67 GHz PBG4 with a gig of RAM. Now I want my BMus... :)
@JoeJacari Got to interview Kenny once. He uses his toms that way because he hit his nose one time going across his face with the stick. With this setup, he is able to cross left and right in any combination and his face is safe. And you're right about UFC - he's a very fit guy, about 5'9" and in amazing shape. I don't know about fighting style, but he's crazy solid.
I have met Kenny at several drum clinics and he is a very nice guy. Always willing to hang out and talk after the clinics. Very down to earth. Not a big head like Dave Weckl. (sp)?
Kenny aronoff is a friend of a friend of a friend of a friend of a friend of a friend of a friend of a friend of a friend of a friend of a friend of a friend of a friend of a friend of a friend of a friend of a friend of a friend of a friend of a friend of a friend of mine.
I love all forms of music and I love to play and listen to drums. Kenny is a talented, solid drummer with good taste and great feel. There are great drummers in every style, all for us to appreciate. Kenny, DeJohnette, Erskine, Hakim, Phillips, Kirke, they're all good!
My favorite drummer in the world. Go Kenny Go! Be sure to watch this video through the very end, he goes nuts on the cymbals and toms. Can You say A W E S O M E? Good, I knew You could!
What I really like about kenny is the fact that he plays this well but is also an amazing pocket player! john mellencamp and John fogerty both have used him.
The guy can play and I`ve met him too - seemed like a good dude to me. If you don`t dig his stuff don`t waste brain time listening to it. Go find something you like instead. Pretty simple, really.
i saw him earlier on in the year at a drum clinic hosted by my drumming school, and he used a double pedal at the clinic so i assume he uses one all the time maybe? i dunno... either way hes amazing and hes a cool guy too. :D
He's a good drummer. If you like or do not like something you don't have to try and force your opinion down everybody elses throats. Something people on youtube seem to have a strong tendency towards doing.
i don't understand why everyone does this. why people feel the need to do a search on someone they hate, only to say they suck balls. yeah it's not a super solo, but it's pretty cool in general people who send youtube hate comments need to get a boyfriend/girlfriend or a hobbyand calm down. we don't bad mouth your shit you don't bad mouth ours. i think some people just need to rub some vagisil on.
tiger9809, i COMPLEtELY agree with you. if you dont like it then dont watch it. and you dont need to comment either. if you are gonna leave a negative comment, at least be respectful with wat you say
"jazzmessenger8", everyone with a number in their name is an ignorant fuck, and that's a fact. Shut your mouth or upload some of your own videos. You'll never ever reach his level. My suggestion is that you see a shrink a try to solve whatever problem it is you have.
You're an idiot. "everyone with a number in their name is an ignorant fuck, and that's a fact. " You're an ignorant fuck for saying that. And as my name implies, I listen to jazz, and after getting conditioned to those drummers, jokes like kenny Aronoff with their chops don't impress me at all. I'm impressed by GOOD drummers, such as Jack Dejohnette, but you probably have no idea who he is since you're too afraid to leave the "modern drummer" safe haven.
I like jazz AND rock. And what Kenny's doing here is pretty incredible. In the style of rock, that is. Jazz drumming is really musical and great too. For example--the most well-known jazz drummer of all time, Buddy Rich. But yeah, I like both genres. By the way, molololtow, am I an ignorant fuck?
@jazzmessenger8 Kenny Aaronoff played with Kenny Kirkland (one of the greatest keyboard players of my generation), Cecil McBee Jr. and Me in my band Rob Zantay's Fusion, back in the late 70's. We were playing my tunes and allot of funk style jazz tunes. he played like a mixture of Harvey Mason and Steve Gadd. His grooves were amazing and he would play the parts from tunes off Harvey Mason's "Funk in a Mason Jar" pitch perfect. He was actually a jazz/ funk drummer before he was a rock star. Rob Z
Yes, of course. You listen to jazz so you're enlightened and everyone else could be called 'idiot'. And moreover you call 'jokes' some musicians because they don't play jazz like Dejohnette. Very smart way to convey really profound thoughts, nothing to say...
Kenny is an incredible drummer. Maybe one of the best sudiodrummers for different pop/rock-styles. don't listen to this solo, listen how variable he plays when works together with totally different artists, like shawn colvin, jon bon jovi ( Blaze of glory), billy Pilgrim, richie sambora's second album and so on....i wish i could affort kenny playing to my tracks...!!! keeper of the groove-play on!!!
i agree with russdonruss because i have to met and talk to him at several drum clinics he is a great guy and great teacher and a great drummer so unless you know what your talking about just because he doenst have a name as big as mike portnoy doesnt mean hes bad
reggaecracker you're kidding right?! If he sucks then you REALLY suck. Kenny is one of the most called upon drummers in the business ... check out how many c/d's and albums he's on ... it must be because he "sucks so bad"? Give your stupid fucking airhead a shake jack off bitch! Goto a site you know more about ...sucking...and I don't mean at drumming.
yeah well it's not qauntity, its quality, rock beats are boring and do not stimulate my brain. look at the cd's he has played on. most generic boring beats around. It takes alot more for me to be interested, I met this guy, set up his gear and watched demo...wasn't impressed, I use the word suck casually, yeah he plays rock beats, ooooo, ahhhhh...I grew out of that in 8th grade.
well.. I think it's about solidity. You're probably an amature that needs to hear "boom bash crash ticka ticka boom boom ARRRRRRGHHHHH" but it's us REAL musicians who appreciate all...solid and "boom bash crash ticka ticka boom boom ARRRRRRGHHHHH". Now go learn to play.
Once you hit the 10th grade you might appreciate solidity ...if you're smart that is. Meanwhile, because Kenny "sucks" so bad ...he's the most requested drummer in the music field for the past 20 years. Check out HOW MANY cd's he's played on...then tell me what you've accomplished.
Aronoff is da man. I've had the pleasure of meeting him twice, and he is the nicest dude, not to mention he is a monster set player. I can't think of too many names he hasn't played with. Now if only he would reply to my email I sent him...
Kenny's greatest strength is being a song drummer, soloing like this make him look like a lesser-than because so many people do it better. When he sticks to his game, he's up there, and that's why he works.
I will say though that seeing old clips of him he was a lot looser and his feel was funkier. I think he's gotten tighter, either by decision or a gradual thing from working out which he obviously does.
