There's an easier way to recognize flat key signatures: the key is always the second-to-last flat. See how D-flat is second-to-last? The only one it won't work for it F-major, but that's easy enough to remember. It's a heck of a lot easier than counting steps.

WOW! You're like a Godsend. That soooo totally simplifies everything i'm learning atm. So should I still hurt my brain over memorizing the circle of 5ths? Anyways, I can't thank you enough... In less than 20minutes you granted me understanding in recognition of sheet music(which I hardly know), and basic scale structure for major and minor chords! I think I feel a grammy award coming in the near future lol.

Hi everybody. I left out some important information about finding the keys. Here's another,easier way, to find the key when you see Flats. Look at the flat furthest to the right ,look left to the flat immediately before it and that is the key. Only one flat, Bb, means it is in the key of F.

Great stuff! I always had a problem figuring out the keys. Now you've made it really easy for me. I never thought about the key containing only the notes to that particular song. I shall certainly practice my scales now.
