Great video but yeah you did come off as an Apple-head. Can it boot into the desktop interface instead of the 'screen full of gigantic icons' which is only usable on a phone? If I have to switch from unusable to usable UI every time I boot this will truly suck.
It's too early to really answer those questions. The beta should be more customizable than this. But, if you just want to skip the Metro interface, then why install Windows 8 at all? There's absolutely /no/ point in Windows 8 unless you plan on using a touch device of some sort.

And most of will come to Win7 as downloads. Metro is designed as a compromise UI for a touchscreen where you don't have the fine control of a mouse or even a touchpad. Unless MS lets the user boot into the desktop mode and bypass the atrociously ugly Metro UI resistance will be significant.
Do the complainers even watch the videos or are just hive minded? You can also use the normal desktop. The metro design is just the startup screen for quick acess to your favorite stuff. You can customize it so that it displays the programs that you want. If you dont like the metro start menu, go to the desktop portion. Its pretty much the same thing as 7, with some upgrades.

Damn it, Microsoft. Creating an OS to run on a Computer and a Tablet all in one is a terrible idea... The new start menu makes me want to vomit. I think its great how it boots up faster, and takes up less processing power, but the UI almost makes me want to stay with 7. The idea of commercial operating systems being used for professional use to going out the door fast. Not that I am a professional myself, but I enjoy the professional feel of older Windows versions like XP.

@thatphatdude The boot up speed shown in this video is not real. I don't think the guy doing the demo realised it wasn't a true boot, only a restore from sleep. My Win7 box restores that fast, and if I let it do a normal sleep, it would close that fast. The real story won't be known until someone does a proper cold boot with antivirus, firewall, security and so on installed. Win7 will cold boot really fast if nothing is installed, but a few essential apps and it slows right down.
Well, I'm not sure what "professional" even means. When it comes to UI design there is really only one objective metric, and that is useability and ergonomics. Everything else is just opinion or "fashion", if you will. Don't get me wrong, design certainly can impact useability and ergonomics, but a lot just falls under preference and personal style.
It looks really amazing and cool, its new and will take some getting use to obiously. but(this is just my take on it) even though i was freaked out and pissed at first, after seeing all the new features and knowing i can still have everything i had in 7 and xp, just better and faster i started thinking of all the positives and negatives. truly i think its going to be amazing and i hope im right. Not going to buy it immediatly going to see how everyone else likes it first. Cant wait though:)

You need to have touchscreen to use win8, otherwise there is no point of having win8 instead of 7. I don't say you can't use it without touchscreen display, but it's more handy to use 7 if you don't want to spend money for touchscreen display

Damn it, Microsoft. Creating an OS to run on a Computer and a Tablet all in one is a terrible idea... The new start menu makes me want to vomit. I think its great how it boots up faster, and takes up less processing power, but the UI almost makes me want to stay with 7. The idea of commercial operating systems being used for professional use to going out the door fast. Not that I am a professional myself, but I enjoy the professional feel of older Windows versions like XP.

@thatphatdude The boot up speed shown in this video is not real. I don't think the guy doing the demo realised it wasn't a true boot, only a restore from sleep. My Win7 box restores that fast, and if I let it do a normal sleep, it would close that fast. The real story won't be known until someone does a proper cold boot with antivirus, firewall, security and so on installed. Win7 will cold boot really fast if nothing is installed, but a few essential apps and it slows right down.

Well, I'm not sure what "professional" even means. When it comes to UI design there is really only one objective metric, and that is useability and ergonomics. Everything else is just opinion or "fashion", if you will. Don't get me wrong, design certainly can impact useability and ergonomics, but a lot just falls under preference and personal style.

It looks really amazing and cool, its new and will take some getting use to obiously. but(this is just my take on it) even though i was freaked out and pissed at first, after seeing all the new features and knowing i can still have everything i had in 7 and xp, just better and faster i started thinking of all the positives and negatives. truly i think its going to be amazing and i hope im right. Not going to buy it immediatly going to see how everyone else likes it first. Cant wait though:)
