  • they are tuned a bit higher than today so you might need to compensate that.

  • I have n old New Wonder model Conn C melody with perfect condition original mouthpice/case/lyre/mouthpiece holder/neck. Is it worth getting new pads put in and overhauling? The pads were the only hing not in perfect condition. Literally no scratches, looks new outta the factory but very obviously authentic

  • @HiToWhoeverReadsThis I would say its worth restoring. The Conns are the only C-Mel's worth anything, the rest are just hunk...

  • Very very SMOOOOOOTH.........

  • Very nice tone, I am impressed

  • is it true it can have a alto or tenor shaped neck?

  • @altosaxophoneist203 There were a slug of C's made, mostly poorly, and a lot of variation in neck design was done, but all the Conn's have this unusual straight neck.

  • @Birdog225 Most Conn C Melodies have curved necks but they did make a straight neck model.

  • @albanybeardguy Many of the surviving Conn C's do not have the original neck, which was straight, but are using a neck off a soprano which fits the neck joint perfectly and plays reasonably well and is very common to find.

  • I have several C-Melodies. I have a lot of trouble with intonation. You seem to have solved that problem and you have a nice clear tone. I wish I could get that out of my C horns.

  • @abukamoon Oh it's not me, this horn is so bleepin sweeeet! I've played several C's and none sound as clean as this Conn. I have a King, Blessing, Bouscher, and a no-name and they all sound like crap compared to the Conn. Thanks for the comment.

  • is the horn slightly bigger or smaller than a regular Eb?

  • I love the C sax. My brother played it in middle school, and he was always first chair. He still has it, and I love the sound of it!

  • very cool man. i just stumbled upon a buescher elkhart ind c-melody in a friend's attic. i didn't even know what it was at first! thanks for this post!

  • this is my kind of sax... any ideas if it's worth buying?

  • @ihatetospam I'd buy another one!

  • @ihatetospam You can play piano parts right off the page with a C Melody.

  • this sax is soooooo rare

  • this is a great demo. hopefully someday a manufacturer will start producing these!

  • They do! Google it.

  • Great tone for the C. So different from the Ebs and Bbs horns!!! Could describe the C melody as a 'sweet' sounding sax?

    thanks!!!

  • is there a difference beetween that and alto?

  • The alto is pitched in Eb and the C-melody is pitched in C.

  • Oh, that makes sence. Thats what I thought. I play alto, it looks and sounds pretty similar, so I was just curiouse.

  • The C Melody is also the saxophone between a tenor sax and an alto sax.

  • Great sound from the C. I bought one when I was in college, my instructor told me they were only good to make into lamps. The C is the only one I still have.

  • Hey thanks! There is nobody more annoying then the person who has strong opinions and feels obligated to share them; like your instructor.

  • @cyberlives2 If I ever managed to get my hands on a C Melody, all my effort would be spent on getting it into playing condition, not making it into a stupid lamp. Who the hell needs a Lamp? Some Instructors are so small minded. So what if it's not a common instrument. That makes it all the more precious!

  • @cyberlives2 That's funny I made a lamp out of one for my mother many years ago..... then I still have a '21 & '23 Conn that are playable...... she loves the lamp.

  • Nice tone on a C-Mel, I can never get mine to sound that good

  • Fine mouthpieces and good reeds are hard to find. I'm using a vintage Selmer mouthpiece and reeds from 1921. I have three reeds left, and I'm not sure what I will do when they are gone...

  • go to aquilasax. i hear they make good fair priced c melody mouthpieces and they take tenor reeds on the aquila pieces

  • Thanks for the tip! But in instrument collecting it's got to be either American made or French made to be worth anything. I also found a vintage box of Rico C-Mel reeds so I'm set for a while now.

  • isnt aquilasax american?

  • They are made in New Zealand and are fine instruments! They just aren't a collectible...I look for stuff that is going up in value.

  • I have always loved the sound of a saxaphone, and you do a beautiful job here. Good tonality. I played tenor sax in high school. Gret work birdog. Keep it up. God Bless.

  • You sound good. It reminds me of the sax back in the day. 5*****!

  • that was a wonderful saxophone accompaniment! nice job

  • great job nicely played .

  • bravo, nice song! 5 *

  • Nice instrument and great sound!

  • Wow you're amazing. (: I want to learn sax so bad.

  • Very nice , at the end you are breathless!

  • Very nice -- easy listening. Too cool! LOVE that SAX!!!

  • Hey Tony, listening to you makes me feel better already! 5*! I recently bought a Yamaha DGX-230 keyboard (for you know who), and I'm excited that it is now MY Christmas present. It seems like a great instrument to toy around with. What's your Yamaha model? Also, I took Sax as a kid (a late 1960's $250 model bought thru the school), unfortunately I sold it in the late 1970's--I'm still kicking myself. Lastly, you got a nice "feel" to your new "old girl".
