Agreed! Tales nearly seems 2 own it's own atmosphere, where Relayer struck me as being somewhere from Yesland! I missed the Talestour, my folks let me go with some friends 2 a Relayer era show in 76 at a racetrack in S. Chicago. I didnt miss a tour for years after that!Howe was really adventurous on his improvs onstage on certain tunes, this caused bootleg mania for me!Yes were {are}1 of the best shows ever.
I was lucky to seee the TALES tour before they switched the setlist in mid-tour. I still remember it vividly. I was really hyped for it and was in tears half the show. I was also with Ellis D. which intensified an already intense experience. 76 was great and 78/79 (in the round) were surreal!
Really nice work! Tales was a bit much 4 many, including Wakeman at the time. I dug sides 3 & 4 right away,& I remember taking organic mescaline and getting in2 sides 1 & 2! Must've been a bear to try to top Close to the Edge, they sure gave it a go!
I loved TALES. Never understood Wakey's views. I was blown away by the inventiveness, imagination and the courage of YES to again go where few had gone before. And not try and repeat the great CTTE which they did very successfully later with RELAYER. YES are sadly and terribly overlooked in today's mainstream media's Rock tributes.
