God Bless You Professor Ariely! Irrational fools (jesters, clowns) entertain us and grant a brief self-delusion of superiority. Irrationality helps us justify getting more than our fair share and helps us cope with scary facts-of-life. One of the cornerstones of my faith is that God is reasonable and sovereign and that all this irrationality (human and otherwise) would all make sense if I wasn't so dumb (I couldn't pour water from a boot if the instructions were on the heel).
