Cohen's First recorded cover was in 1969, from Songs from a Room. This song was written during World War II by Anna Marley, who ran a hostel for fleeing French Nationals in London.

Cohen learned the song from "the peoples songbook" whilst in Quebec in 1949

My problem is both his religious beliefs and his dollars. I just paid £16 to buy one his CDs. Some of it will go to a temple or a book written to disseminate religious nonsense. Do you know when John Lennon wrote imagine there is no possession he had huge investments in real estate. We either fund their cocaine habits, their estates, or their religious beliefs by buying their music. So we waste our hard earned wages.

@ndelame Cliché... Regarde le documentaire "La Résistance" diffusé en 2008 sur France 2 (le coffret 3 DVD est à moins de 10 euros) et tu comprendas la complexité du problème et son évolution. C'est facile de critiquer dans son canapé en 2011, c'est une autre paire de manche que d'agir entre 40 et 44... Et tes "Ricains", ils ont fait quoi de 1939 à 1941? Ils ont même refoulé les juifs qui fuyaient l'Europe...
