most big lsx cam's peak out around 6300-6600 rpms.....so 5500 shifts give alot more to pull from that motor

Not sure what you are saying, the bolton Z28 went faster shifting at 6000 than 5500. When he shifted at 5500, he even shifted to 5th at that rpm and you can see how much it slowed it down.

slacker is right, you want to shift past the peak, not before it. I shift at 6k with just bolt-ons and it make a big difference. Once I do heads and cam I'll probably be shifting at 7k.
