I've only seen season 1 of the Wire, but comparing it with season 1 of the Shield, I must say that the Shield wins no contest: the acting of Michael Chiklis vs. Dominic West (no contest) / the dialogue (no contest) / the action (no contest)...only Omar was a great character in the Wire (and a great actor)...aside from that The Wire is absolutely dull..the Shield always kept me off the edge of my seat...only HBO's Oz compares to it in terms of action, acting, dialogue, and originality.

@elsblaugranas The Shield and the Wire are diferent shows, and both are great in diferent ways. The Whire have hundreds of great characters, The Shield have just a few characters, but they are more complex in my opinion than the characters of The Wire. The dialogues of The Wire are fucking great, as much as The Shield.

Two diferent shows, but two fucking great shows (probably the best shows ever made).

I would say one of the top moments of that season is when he confesses to the FBI or for that matter the moment before he starts his confession to get his deal. The moment when the last member of the team gets screwed by Vic and Vic is made to see it. The best moment of the show is the end of episode one when they establish Vic Mackey as the villian. The previews made it seem like a show about another hard ass cop, not a protagonist villain. It set up the whole show.
