Funfact: @ 12:05 you don't need to wait for the lift to come back to return to the cannon. If you jump to the cannon (and obviously fall short) a gust of wind sends you flying back up, which lets you reach it with distance to spare. Found this out when I tried to long-jump to the cannon as a kid; and failed. :P

@JoshJepson You are wrong about "being screwed" if you get the 100 coins in the slide. If you miss it, just come back in the slide and catch it on your second run. I experimented it on Tall Tall Mountain's slide (course 12) and it sure stays even if you quit the slide and come back.
