The amount of teasing that it takes to break/damage your hair depends on the type of hair you have. My virgin hair(uncolored) can take being teased like crazy. It also is really easy to comb out and never knots after being teased.... It depends on your hair type!

Take it easy with the back combing! You need to be gentle with your hair. It will break.

Your hair must be really damaged cause it backcombs so easy. My hair won't backcomb even with hairspray in it. To get it to backcomb, I have to use like half a bottle of hairspray...

Here is a back combing tip for your "poof": when you go to brush it back point the part you would normally brush your hair with (the bristles) away from you and use the side of the brush, this will smooth the hair into the direction you want without undoing any of your back combing (or teasing).
