@JeemOfRunescape If you want great color ( slow response time ) go with IPS, you want a fast gaming monitor = crt or TN with 2 ms or quicker response time, you want inbetween... VA has good colors. Me I game , I don't have time to evaluate color reproduction, need a great fast ( responsive )TN Panel gaming monitor = BenQ XL2410T.
@alle71 The better IPS (by better, I generally mean the newer and slightly more expensive ones) panels are great all round displays, even for fast paced gaming. They're not as ideal as a TN panel, as they have very low response times, but the lack of colour quality and pathetic viewing angles of the bargain bin models really don't help the experience that much. If you don't care so much about colour accuracy or viewing angles and aren't doing any kind of colour work on your system, TN is fine.
Very useful even two years later. Currently I'm making a little user research for buying a professional IPS monitor and I have found that for some reason IPS monitors normaly don't have a HDMI input but I haven't found an answer yet. Could somebody around here tell why is that?
@TRASProjectVideos The only newer IPS monitors I know of that don't have HDMI are the Apple Cinema DIsplays, but then they're made to be used with Macs which don't use HDMI, but Mini DisplayPort. You'd be hard pressed to go wrong by getting a Dell UltraSharp display. Those things are great, and have every connector under the sun lol. They come with DisplayPort, HDMI, DVI, VGA, Component and Composite lol. I recommend looking into the U2410, unless you need higher resolution, then the 27 or 30.
3 The VA panels are far from middle, for response times and input lag. They are known for being slowest from all types of panels end generally are not any better then TN's. They also suffer from contrast shift, black crush and gamma shift which make them an option for consumers who ain't really know much about panels. Also they tend to have very strong/oversaturated colors which make them look cartoonish and totally unrealistic, and ofc hard for using long time (eye strain)
LOL man i like your videos generally, but this is really misleading one.
1. There are many IPS screens atm on the market for the same price as TN's. Dell 2209WA, Dell U2311H & NECEA23WMi,HP ZR22w etc.
2. The IPS destroy any tn in terms of colir reproduction, color accuracy, image consistency (on whole panel) contrast stabillty, panel uniformity, shadow details, and black color reproduction (the most important part of every LCD, the viewing angles are just a bonus.
What IPS monitors are HP coming out with? Im thinking about getting myself a HP LP2475w but thats last years model, and if they got an improved model with less input lag Im willing to wait for it.
I dont think 3dgameman will reply to me since I dont see any of his replies to other users questions below, so can anyone else answer me?
Most of the time the panel type isn't given away in the naming.
The easiest way to find out what technology it uses simply to look at it's price. If it's one of the cheaper models then it's going to be a TN, if it costs a few hundred more then other screens of the same size there's a good chance it's a PVA/VA and if it's super expensive it's a IPS display.
The other way is to look at the response times, TN displays have responses time of around 2 to 3 MS, IPS and PVA have times of 5 to 6 MS.
@Freddie1980: Or one could simply go to Prad (prad(dot)de(slash)en), click the manufacturers list and see detailed information of pretty much every monitor that is on the market or has been.
damn i saw a video of OLED´s and thats awesome i didnt know thats something is going on, i though the tecnology will stop after LCD, TFT, etc... but that a display can be printed..... o_O
200% Good advice Thanking you.. but some monitor sellers just don't tell people this information. Some don't even say whether or not monitors have a glossy or anti-glare display... OK, just one click away is the answer and the sale :)
OLED's are the future. yes LCD and plasma tv's will be a thing of the past.
Just keep reading new articles on OLED technology and their progress. Stuff is still way to expensive right now, and some minor Longevity problems. but I cant wait
Although I really wanted an IPS based panel, I had to settle on the acer g24 which is a heavily modified TN panel. And you know what, I'm amazed, It has a colour gamut of 98% which is amazing compared to the average 70% for TN panels. It also uses acers overdrive technology making the grey to grey response time 2ms. Although the increased colour gamut on IPS is tempting, I'm also quite colour bling, so 98% will do me lol
Wow, this is completely new to me o_o I never knew there was any difference between LCD displays. I just assumed there was one standard for LCD displays.
i have an htpc and i use a lcd tv. what are the major difference in using an LCD tv and the aforementioned LCD panels; would they do a better job than a regular LCD television?
Great question, this is something people really need to know when deciding which monitor to get. And the sellers often do not give much info on the panel type. It's why Dell's UltraSharp monitors are more expensive than the normal versions.
nah man, you dont know about monitors man, its not about the highest dynamic contrast.... picture quality! .. LG and samsung are awefull compared to those ...
What is a GTG Mointer that have those Extreme Resolutions at like 2560 x 1600? Also can you make a Video about those 3d Monitor and explain what they are and how they work
About 6ms. Seriously though, I've heard people say that the eye can't see anything under 10ms, I think that's a load of shit. To my perspective I have always got ghosting on any 8ms monitor never a 2ms, could just be the brand though. If you can get your hands on a 2ms monitor -Go for it! Otherwise if you don't see your current 8ms monitor effecting your game play, then why upgrade? Unless you're wanting a bigger size.
Nothing can beat a good CRT, although the LCD is the common nowadays, much like HDTV's have replaced all the displays where your old tubed televisions used to rest.

IPS = little to no blurring or ghosting, good response time usually however very poor black levels on most CCFL versions
VA = very saturated look, good black levels but sometimes noticeable smearing and response times tend to be higher
TN = low response time, inexpensive but very poor viewing angles

Of course not.
LCD and such technologies aren't even ideal for displays obviously.
With issues such as viewing-angles and the colors etc. changing when you even move a bit, stuck pixels and all those variables.
In my opinion it's not even logical.
I mean, it's liquid, no wonder you get these strange side-effects.
Now I consider OLED to be the real or actual "flatscreen-solution".
The properties of that technology just makes much more sense.
And I really hope it will work out soon enough.
