my girls are 5 and 7. We DID NOT do the whole X-Mas thing this year. I refused to do it this year. Instead we took our girls to the store and let them buy 1 item of their choosing. Last year we spent over $ 700 on just them for X-Mas. They were just as happy and we spent $ 50 on them.
I would just liek to add... Prayer Jesus taught us. He taught us to ask Father who is in Heavens, to praised be his name, and for his Kingdom to Come, like it is on Heaven to be on the Earth wich means we pray to him so Earth could be more like heaven less liek hell. Christmas is very much rooted in paganism. After studying Easter (fertility goddess) and Saturnalia (celebrated--Dec. 18-25), honoring the deity Saturn & sacrifices in the temple of Saturn. It is unfortunate how these pagan holidays were incorporated into the Christian context. 25th was the celebration of the "sun" god. The Lord God does not need a pagan foundation to established any Holy Day that He declares. If we lie to our children about santa, what else would we lie to them about????
What is really creepy, Doug, is, change the letters in Santa Claus and you get Satan Lucas (is Lucas another name for Lucipher?) Satan's name is right in Santa. @fotm1: No, he's not of the occult in disguise. I just found it funny that he was against Christmas trees but not against halloween. Actually I knew one of those types of people once. I was one of the only ones who could tell that something was squirley about him. But everybody else thought that he was great. Wreaths, trees, presents and the other decorations of Christmas in our culture are no longer associated with pagan rituals.Things always change. I agree with your issues about santa and secular Christmas attitudes but for our family/church Christmas represents family, joy, love, celebrating life and Jesus Christ. I believe this and I have heard other ministers express the same concern. However there seems to be a strange paradox. Many Christians are concerned about Christmas, because they believe it takes the attention away from God. And yet many secularists want to get rid of Christmas because they think it puts attention on God.

Doug, your videos portray you as someone living radically for Jesus. Praise God! I want to live radically for Jesus too. I love Him and seek to worship Him and serve Him. More God! But I struggle to accept your views on Christmas. If wheelbase comes from chariots, and chariots were originally designed for war, does that make a car a symbol of warfare? I want to be as different/set-apart as God asks. On my better days I only care what He thinks! But I also am wary of becoming overly legalistic.
@JoshuaChes I don't think I actually mentioned chariots, but carts. I'm sure they had the same wheelbase (two horse butts wide), but there was a LOT more commerce and migration and other use of the Roman roads than just warfare.

Anyone ever notice some kids have a hard wired avoidance of Santa Clause. My kids don't want their picture with Santa, or sit on his lap for a picture, saves loads of time when shopping, they can since something wrong about it. Now, if it was Winnie the Pooh, or Tigger, or Mickey Mouse, we'd have to stop for a picture.
I love this video. I and my family have stopped Christmas as well. The early church did not celebrate it. Additionally, birthdays were forbidden to be celebrated at that time by the early church, this included Jesus' birthday as well. The interesting thing was it was our eight year old granddaughter that was first to say God does not like us celebrating Christmas. Blessings, Lynda

But I'm surprised that you agree the fact that a lot of actuall celebrations and festivals were pagan before christianity trampled native cultures. Including Chrismas which was post harvest - winter start festival in a lot of diffrent cultures. Yet Roman Saturnalia festival was the most widespread and infuental.
@WhereDidItRun. The "santa" we see today was a creation of the Coca Cola co. Constantine and a few others back in the day tried to combine pagan and what they believed to be holy days for catholics and christians and made a mish mash mess of it. They were trying to keep ppl, rooted in gnostic & pagan beliefs, from worshipping false idols, gods, etc. True believers of Yeshua do not agree w/ that at all. @beckoninglight16 Well, it's not like Monica is dressing up like an elf or anything! :-) I just talked to Gary on Skype. They see it like I do - that it's not worth fighting over and it's roots are wrong ... BUT ... it's a time when people are lonely and hurting and need to be reminded of the love of Christ. They talk about redeeming the days and not being materialistic. I can assure you there is not santa claws at Gary and Monica's house. :-) They just don't draw as hard a line as I do.

Have you noticed that this Christmas tradition has now spilled over into the general population within the past few years? When I was young, 20 yrs ago, I'm sure there were non-Christians who celebrated it, but I had never heard of any. It almost seems like everyone I talk to who isn't a Christian nowadays is celebrating. Shows how truly uninformed people really are. I believe Christians should not be celebrating this day, but you also have to ask yourself, why are non-Christians celebrating it?

My husband and I put up a tree during our first year of marriage 3 years ago. I've always known, since I was about 8 years old, that Christmas was Pagan and against the Bible. I guess my secular "worldly" side wished I could participate, so I did that one time. But since then, my husband sides with me and we don't participate in it. We haven't told his family, so they send gifts for my son who is 2 yrs old. I'm dreading the ridicule. They will say I influenced my husband against it.
I stopped celebrating xmas too. Yes, I took Christ out of christ>>mas. I used to think I was committing a sin by leaving his name out but I am pretty sure that He doesn't want him name in it. I stopped slowly. First outside decorations, then inside and no tree. Just a wreath on the door. Now it's not even a wreath on the door. I tell everyone that I am not celebrating the holiday anymore that the pagans can have it. I can celebrate the birth of Jesus every day!

Christmas is very much rooted in paganism. After studying Easter (fertility goddess) and Saturnalia (celebrated--Dec. 18-25), honoring the deity Saturn & sacrifices in the temple of Saturn. It is unfortunate how these pagan holidays were incorporated into the Christian context. 25th was the celebration of the "sun" god. The Lord God does not need a pagan foundation to established any Holy Day that He declares. If we lie to our children about santa, what else would we lie to them about????

IF Santa Claus is meant to be a supposed depiction of Father God, then I certainly agree that it would be a very insulting one. I'm not quite sure why Santa Claus would necessarily be this supposed depiction of God.

I was one of the only ones who could tell that something was squirley about him. But everybody else thought that he was great. Doug, your videos portray you as someone living radically for Jesus. Praise God! I want to live radically for Jesus too. I love Him and seek to worship Him and serve Him. More God! But I struggle to accept your views on Christmas. If wheelbase comes from chariots, and chariots were originally designed for war, does that make a car a symbol of warfare? I want to be as different/set-apart as God asks. On my better days I only care what He thinks! But I also am wary of becoming overly legalistic.

Anyone ever notice some kids have a hard wired avoidance of Santa Clause. My kids don't want their picture with Santa, or sit on his lap for a picture, saves loads of time when shopping, they can since something wrong about it. Now, if it was Winnie the Pooh, or Tigger, or Mickey Mouse, we'd have to stop for a picture.

I love this video. I and my family have stopped Christmas as well. The early church did not celebrate it. Additionally, birthdays were forbidden to be celebrated at that time by the early church, this included Jesus' birthday as well. The interesting thing was it was our eight year old granddaughter that was first to say God does not like us celebrating Christmas. Blessings, Lynda

@lldcadc Good Grief, we go through this conversation every year. Keep in mind not to buy your kids any gifts this year at all pertaining to christmas cause it is wrong. Also don't let them play with other kids Christmas toys because those toys are cursed. If you are going to shun christmas, then do it 100%. No hyperiocates allowed.

Paul says many things are "legal" but not always good for us. We r not 2 embrace the ways of this world but ppl will quote Paul & say participating in traditions of men will not condemn them so they embrace halloween, easter, christmas trees & santa clause. I choose 2 honor God not traditions of men. Will it save me? No, I am saved by my faith in Jesus. Will it honor God? Absolutely! Honor man or God? I fear and love God and have no interest in serving the world and its corporations.

I look at it this way:
1. Religion will NOT Save you.
2. Harmless traditions & cultures will NOT condemn you.
3.Salvation is by grace through faith in Jesus Christ.

@fotm1 but we know the real things that defiles a man such as fornication, hatred, malice, envy, lying, adultery, strife, uncleanness... you know the rest. Giving a gift on Dec. 25 does not defile a man. Its simply tradition, custom, culture. This kind of reminds me of the Council the Apostles had a Jerusalem.

@fotm1, You say "when he comes back" as if it's a proven fact. Thing is that you blindly believe that he's really coming back, then what if he doesn't and it turns out to be a massive facade? But nonetheless, i still refuse to believe in some god-king that condones homosexuality and incest. You may say "That was the old testament", and i say your all knowing God is a dumbass for allowing it, then assuming it was wrong. But that's okay, there's the NEW testament. Lol

And I don't get your complaint. God never condoned homosexuality OR incest. That it happened doesn't mean God condoned it at all. In fact, in every case that I can think of there are very bad consequences. Show me some verses where God tells people to do that or I'm kinda gonna have to assume you're the dumbass. Santa Claus derives from St.Nicholas. A person who saves one farmers daughters from prostitution by giving away some money to them. As gift giver further on. Make your own research.
But I'm surprised that you agree the fact that a lot of actuall celebrations and festivals were pagan before christianity trampled native cultures. Including Chrismas which was post harvest - winter start festival in a lot of diffrent cultures. Yet Roman Saturnalia festival was the most widespread and infuental.

@WhereDidItRun. The "santa" we see today was a creation of the Coca Cola co. Constantine and a few others back in the day tried to combine pagan and what they believed to be holy days for catholics and christians and made a mish mash mess of it. They were trying to keep ppl, rooted in gnostic & pagan beliefs, from worshipping false idols, gods, etc. True believers of Yeshua do not agree w/ that at all. Most of us do not follow these mens ways nor their traditions. Not all of us embrace it.

@beckoninglight16 Well, it's not like Monica is dressing up like an elf or anything! :-) I just talked to Gary on Skype. They see it like I do - that it's not worth fighting over and it's roots are wrong ... BUT ... it's a time when people are lonely and hurting and need to be reminded of the love of Christ. They talk about redeeming the days and not being materialistic. I can assure you there is not santa claws at Gary and Monica's house. :-) They just don't draw as hard a line as I do.

Thank you, Doug, for spreading the word. I think people are starting to catch on and it's great to see more and more people on YouTube telling the truth about these pagan traditions. I like how you presented the case in a non-judgemental way and encourage others to do their own research on this topic, just as I have. We must worship in Spirit AND Truth. And It's time that the world decides to glorify God with their actions too and not just their words.

Have you noticed that this Christmas tradition has now spilled over into the general population within the past few years? When I was young, 20 yrs ago, I'm sure there were non-Christians who celebrated it, but I had never heard of any. It almost seems like everyone I talk to who isn't a Christian nowadays is celebrating. Shows how truly uninformed people really are. I believe Christians should not be celebrating this day, but you also have to ask yourself, why are non-Christians celebrating it?

My husband and I put up a tree during our first year of marriage 3 years ago. I've always known, since I was about 8 years old, that Christmas was Pagan and against the Bible. I guess my secular "worldly" side wished I could participate, so I did that one time. But since then, my husband sides with me and we don't participate in it. We haven't told his family, so they send gifts for my son who is 2 yrs old. I'm dreading the ridicule. They will say I influenced my husband against it.

I stopped celebrating xmas too. Yes, I took Christ out of christ>>mas. I used to think I was committing a sin by leaving his name out but I am pretty sure that He doesn't want him name in it. I stopped slowly. First outside decorations, then inside and no tree. Just a wreath on the door. Now it's not even a wreath on the door. I tell everyone that I am not celebrating the holiday anymore that the pagans can have it. I can celebrate the birth of Jesus every day!

@MsSimpleLife AMEN! We as a family have begun celebrating all the Holy days. This year we are celebrating Hannukkah, though it is not a Holy Day. The children are learning about the miracle of the oil that God provided for the temple. They are learning the Jewish alphabet so they can play dreidle. We have no tree, but some family from out of the area still send the children presents. We want to be faithful in all ways to God. Love and Blessings, Lynda
