Hi Fargo, Since stumbling upon this video I have tried to find other Single Player Practice Games like this but have had little success. Can you (or anyone else for that matter) suggest some other games that can be played to measure skill development???
It's a good game. The only thing I don't like about it is the spotting the pocketed balls after the break. I once made 6 balls and was left with a long row of spotted balls. They should count as 1 point.
I was going to just do 9-ball, though I'm a novice player. I was going to play it on my own and keep count of the fouls, and the number of turns I took to complete each game.
The only thing you didn't explain is what happens if you miss a shot. Are you stuck with whatever score you have at that point, or do you keep shooting? Is this game just for advanced players or are we operating under the assumption that everybody watching can run a full table?
Per the rules mentioned in the end of the video, one ends a frame when all the balls are cleared or when one misses a shot. If one misses on is left with the total number of points one had up to the last pocketed ball.

Hm still dont see why not switch to rotation immediatly after the break. The website says: "if he gets to a point where he knows a cluster is going to stop the run, [...], only then should he consider to switch to rotation." If i'd get to that point I wouldve wished Id switched to rotation before that so my potted balls counted double! (or am I thinking wrong?)
You need to try switching to rotation immediately for ten innings. Then try another ten innings hitting in a handful of random balls first. I think you will be convinced. Feel free to report the results here.
An even faster way of proving the point: Go break 10 full racks. Count how many times you have a decent shot on the one ball. I'm guessing 9 out of 10 racks, most people won't be able to sink the one ball. Those would all be innings in which you got zero points.
Ah I think I missed the keymeaning of the word rotation: playing the balls in order. Thus when one switches to rotation immediatly it would be '15 ball' starting with ball in hand. Which is very hard (to me) indeed.
I thought one could pot random balls in de rotationfase as well, counting as 2 points. Ah righttt. Well Ill post my 10 game result some day.
@kolaas2006 yea but it is also MUCH more difficult, i like how he gave u the option, it involves even more thinking. imagine u can only pocket 2 balls in rotation, and the 3rd ball is tied up, wouldn't u want to hit random first to break open the cluster and then go in rotation when u are sure u can run out?
I don't shoot well enough to play Fargo. I think I've only run 7 or 8 balls.

@poolfluke making shots on the break has a lot of luck and plus u would wanna spot it to give u potential for the MAX points

This sounds great!

But this is much better.

Fargo Jr. 9 Ball Rack
After break, spot pocketed balls, ball in hand.
2=Each ball worth
1=If you miss, shoot where ball lands
Pocket all balls, +2 bonus
Scratch, frame over.
20 points max per frame
10 frames
200 point max.
175-200 points? Play Fargo

I was trying to play Fargo and was getting very frustrated because i would miss or hook myself after one shot.
Fargo Jr. Might be better for someone who's still trying to control the cue ball and not the best at pocketing.

well I tried it two days ago and here's my quite lousy score:
4/15/3/9/5/2/7/4/9/8= 67 :S
I can do better than that :)

Except that a player begins each inning with ball in hand anywhere on the table.
FargoBilliards 4 years ago
That would make that a lousy proof.

@FargoBilliards Lol.. I come back 2 years later reading my post. I think back then I didnt really knew what "rotation" meant :)
kolaas2006 1 year ago
ok, and a miss is the end of your run I assume. But why not switch to rotation immediatly? That would give you more points straight away!
kolaas2006 4 years ago
yes miss is end of the run.
