Trailer - The Dresden Files

Used the theme to Batman Beyond, with what i'd say was bad scene cutting. The series wasn't bad, but it got canned too early b/c sci-fi showed the 3rd(?) ep before the pilot or 1st intro ep. This is just another series that died because it's target audience doesn't watch TV shows the way that the scoring counts

@BreeFenton That's what happens when NBC depends on faulty ratings and haters. Same reason the cancelled HEROES, almost cancelled CHUCK, and the reason they cancelled Dresden. There's no way NEILSON knows what I'm watching or not watching. I hate that they base things off of what a few people in an area are watching. My neighbor could be watching Soap Operas.. but that does not mean I am. And just because my neighbor might not be watching Dresden does not mean that all of us arent.

Overall the actors in the series is really good, but they screwed up so much with the script and story. I guess it's because they had such a low budget. I'd prefer if they made movies of the books instead, because TV series is really really hard to get success with..

This is such an EPIC fail. Period. People love the books, not this "family friendly" version. It's like making the movie "Aliens", but without monsters...

The actor (Dresden) is perfect, everything else sucks... Where is the sarcasm?The cowboy look and the .44? The perverted skull? The tiny cop who really kiks @zz? COME ON! No wonder it was shut-down. You cannot possibly realise how bad this is unless you READ THE BOOKS!

I post on the official website's forum regularly. Dresden was thirty five a short while ago in the books (roughly the time the show was on the air). He's nearing forty now. Remember, book 12 comes out this April. There were six books by the time the show started so yes, he was thirty five when the show started. Funny how insults seem to only get thrown by those who have faultering arguments.

Umm... No. Go to Jim Butcher's own website. Dresden was twenty-seven-ish in the EARLIEST Dresden Files adventure. By the time the show was made the character in the book was thirty five. The actor was thirty five. How the HELL could he be twenty and working as a private investigator? There's no reality where that CAN happen, magick or no magick.

Yes. The series were of fatal quality so they stopped making it after season one.

I only even found out there was a series a couple months before it hit dvd (which then I promptly bought). After I watched it on DVD, I couldn't understand why they wouldn't keep it on. It seemed like the only non cheesy show on sci-fi.

i always pictured him with longer hair, a hat, and a longer coat. he shouldn't fit in so much, cuz that was one of the main points in the books, that he was a misfit. he also had more of a forbidding presence than what i see here.

no, slide is right :) in the books, harry is described a bit like a mix of van helsing and rincewind- a bit lanky but cute, dark duster, hat and a bit unshaven, slightly chaotic, gentleman but sometimes a bit verbally clumsy... ok maybe i like this character. a lot. :))

The hat doesn't actually exist in the books, just the cover art. Dresden's hair was never long and the hat only exists on the covers. If you read the written description Paul Blackthorne fit the role perfectly, he was even the right height. As for the duster, it was too bulky and hard to move. It's difficult to do action scenes in an old fashioned duster. Now if it was Spike's from Buffy it might have worked but that's not what's described in the book. So they were better off with no duster.

Foreboding presence? The books are from HIS point of view. He never describes himself as foreboding. That is your own imagination imposing that in there. Also... the hat doesn't actually exist in the books. That was the cover artist taking liberties.

Umm... Paul Blackthorne is 6 and 1/2 feet tall. That is Dresden's height, give or take 2 inch. You can't get any closer. As for the blond Murphy, the girl who played Susan auditioned for Murphy and was terrible. All the blond Murphys were terrible. Mrs. Cruz actually read the books, auditioned for Susan but did a better reading as Murphy. Would you rather someone who looks like Murphy or behaves like her? That was the choice. Don't be so shallow. She also won an ALMA for her portrayal of Murphy.

HOW can he be a lot taller?! HOW?! Paul Blackthorne is over six feet tall. Even the guy playing Bob is six feet tall. They're big men. The producer even called Paul 'Freakishly huge' at one point. Dresden isn't ten feet tall!

not to nit pick or anything but Harry is actually 6'9" in the books. I didn't mind Paul's height though. Harry's just more than a half a foot taller than him. Talk about freakishly huge :D

Valarie Cruz read the books, blond actresses didn't. She understood the character. I'm not shallow enough to turn away someone who... you know, GETS the character, just for something as petty as hair color. As for Dresden, you realize Paul Blackthorne is VERY tall, right? He's at least six four. Terrence Mann (Bob) is six foot. Dresden in the novels is roughly six and a half feet tall. Since when is two inches a lot?  Get a grip.

Jim Butcher, himself, felt the change of Bob to a ghost was a vast improvement. Why the Hell woudl ANYONE want a talking skull in a TV show. Think about it, there's no way to make it look good. Do a search here on youtube. The footage is available. The test audiences HATED that thing. Now Google Hrothbert of Bainbridge. The ghost has a far larger fan base than the talking skull ever did. Same personality but more depth and relatability. Not to mention he was played by a Broadway star.

How tall does it say he is? Next time, don't assume they got something wrong when Paul Blackthorne's one of the tallest men in Hollywood. And yes, Dresden is SUPPOSED to be dark haired.

I HATE when people assume the show 'failed' because it strayed from the books. I loved the books AND the show. Dresden had high ratings. It was the third highest rated show on SciFi. No one can figure out why it was not renewed. It didn't fail, that's the biggest mystery about it. The petition had 16,127 signatures. Strangely a petition with just 4,000 signatures got the BBC show Being Human a continuation when it originally wasn't. Scifi just doesn't care about it's audience.

There's no way it could have followed the books, there were only five or six at the time, not enough material for a show. There were lots of viewers. Despite the changes from the books. No one understands why it was canceled.
