  • Wow how did i NOT know about color corrector view????? so simple, and so awesome.

  • looks so confusing, but im gonna do it!

  • I'm too stupid to got derpy doopy "video school" what's the point just watch all you other time wasters make vids only if they're good :/

  • hello indymogul, what are some cheap / free film editors. I'm just getting in to film editing and i don't know what program to use and i don't want to spend $999.99 to buy apple's film editors. so which ones do you recommend?

  • @theDSskater LightWorks from editshare. it's still in beta but it is open source and amazing

  • everyone! please check out my uncles shit. hes been editing for years.

he could use the views. thanx his channel is garyhernz creative film editor

  • 2:05 - 2:22 Crapping? Crap-settings?? Do they have settings for that too?

  • i have a question on videos that like go really fast how do u make em like certain parts on the video how do i edit em out? editing tips anyone?????.

  • this video didnt really offer much, .. emmy??

  • @THREEYOUNGDUDES Actually, he covered multi-track special effects and multi-camera synchronized editing... color correction and transition application... Some people want in-depth coverage others want practical effects...

  • I don't understand why people hate Mac....? Is it because PC is more "classic"? Or is this some weird form of anti-establishment? I don't get it, when it comes down to professional level filmmaking, Mac runs everything so much better, and can handle a LOT of files without crashing. That's always been my experience with PC, that after 100 video files it just gives up. My iMac is great!

  • @PiontlessFilms Macs are over priced and over rated. They make Mac out to look like some kind of Super computer...their NOT. Sure they look pretty on the outside and its something new from the good ol Windows but the truth is, they freeze just like PC, they're slow and stuborn. Mac arnt compatable with any other computer system but Apple. PC accepts everything from itunes, Quick time, Xbox360, PS3, PSP. I'm a film student, a project takes weeks in Final Cut, takes days in Sony Vegas.

  • @BNDProductionsInc You are incriminating yourself with each misspelled word...LOL

  • It's not that I hate macs... it's more that I don't like having to pay out the ass for the same hardware i can get for half the price. I also like the fact that I can find any program I want for free with a PC. From what I hear windows 7 is gonna be tha shit... a new XP and should fix everything. BTW I said screw CS4, and started using Sony Vegas and it is tha shit.... no problems what so ever...

  • Man its each to their own..its your weapon weapon of choice and all that... I use 4 different edit systems (mac and PC), but my best work comes off FCP. Personally if somebody comes out with a better system.. I'll go for it

  • From someone who claims to appreciate brevity, the first two minutes are a complete waste. A failure of editing is not a good sign, a lack of expertise.

  • I hate MAC but if this shit keeps up i may give in and buy one.

  • How could you hate macs if they have amazing programs like this?

  • Why do you hate them? I love Mac's for everything except buisness applications, Try using excel and word with Mac. Alot harder than it needs to be....

  • i just got cs4... im trying to use Premier but im having trouble with my imported avi files only playing audio... any thoughts?

  • try to convert it to wma

  • hmmm...I installed divx and that brought up the video picture but still only sound.... then I imported my avi files to after effects saved the file and import it into premeier and it works... idk wtf is going on lol.

  • GEt final cut. YOu won´t regret it.

  • Get English lessons. You won't regret it.

  • Why should I get english lessons??

  • hey, it's becuz the file is too big. There is no solution.

  • "limited to....4 minutes"...a hahaha

  • Despite the cheesiness of this how to video, I think the only real problem with this video is that this guy has his Emmy in front of his lap top. Does anyone else have a problem with that?

That guy can shove his Emmy up his ass for all I care.

  • its a laugh at him self

  • He has the Emmy there because he is proud of it and if they didn't show the Emmy then no one would believe him.

  • adobe premier is the most user friendly.

FCP is ok but apple are up their own asses and dont make a pc version.

avid is good, real good but you need a PHD to understand the program and not at all user friendly.

FCP does come with an idiot proof walk through dvd though.

  • 'FCP is ok but apple are up their own asses and dont make a pc version.'

Ha Ha, finally a PC user gets to feel how us Mac users have felt for so long! Microsoft aint lookin' too good these days!!

  • uhh guys can you tell me whats the best editing software for pc

  • Adobe Premier

  • sony vegas

  • Microsoft Movie Maker.

    HEEEEL YEAH!

  • I use Sony Vegas and am thoroughly satisfied with it. It's not hard to learn if you have the motivation...and it's like $115 and for PC

My school uses Adobe but I much prefer vegas.

  • Agreed. I'm down with Vegas and its about all I use any more.

But seeing such a program specific episode sucked for someone like me who uses only one!

    -=The Prynce

  • didn't think you could get so injured from what?

    Media Shower?

  • metior shower like astroids

  • oh!!!!! that makes sense. It's the accent.

  • can anyone help me? i need a new reLLY EASY TO US editing software that is free and available from the internet. I'm currently uing WMM, but i can't work out how to cut bits out of my movies on it. Can someone at least help with that?

  • i wanna see a pro/con list with prices for all the different kind of softwares out there. i'm currently on iMovie and it gets the job done.

  • Aww man, Final Cut Pro? Not all of us can get $1200 for an editing software. On top of that, a Mac. Any alternatives?

  • sony vegas.

  • I know about that, but i'm kinda afraid I can't get use to the interface and all. Maybe after a year i'll get it.

  • your problem.

  • Ack, fine i'll use it.

  • just get the trial versions of Adobe Premiere and/or Adobe After Effects, or just use vegas. It's a decent good program.

  • Nice !

    Thanks, Bill :D

    -b

  • awesome video, but i must say i did learn all this in 1 semester of highschool intro to video :]

  • Thanks for the compliment, haha :D 4 Minutes of Indy Mogul = 1 semester of High School!!! :D

hahaha But seriously, those tips are geared towards speed and efficiency in editing. As a freelancer, those are important attributes. If you're a staffer, you can be as slow as you like. :)

  • yeah it was really fast but i did learn how to use multiclips and i had never moved a image across the screen so i did learn that but i had to watch the vid a couple time b4 i really understood what he was doing. i think u guys should do a 20min episode on fcp to show the basics. also i would like to see an episode on color correction

  • Hmmm. YOu definately can not learn anything in FCP in 4 minutes. YEah.

  • i also thought this was too fast/short. i didn't really understand what they were trying to do until the very end. but, it was helpful.

  • what he win an Emmy for? cause he's not on IMDB? me thinks Indy Mogul LIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • encore, more more more.

  • finally, some good, useful videoblog tips for FCP. now i dont have to sift through all the shitty ones out there on the web. thanks IndyMogul. -lone

  • if u need help with FCP check out Emeek77 on youtube its pretty advance stuff but it helps a lot and if you message him he does reply

  • oh yea, ive been subscribed to him for over a year now. !!

  • too fast

  • I knew everything before the promo, but the info after was really helpful!

  • this show is anti Microsoft seriously, who uses final cut pro, WHO? MAC USERS, WELL FUCK THE MAC USERS YOU BASTARDS.

    That was a joke btw.

  • no...real film makers use final cut pro you dick

  • I said, IT WAS A JOKE. The part where it said JOKE means it's is a JOKE, a JOKE is meant to be something funny and not taken seriously.

Type define: joke, into Google, it will give you a more in-depth definition of the exact meaning of the word.

  • yeah well, this is true they should do it in after effects because that can be run on mac, also I am a mac user. D:>

  • hey, indymogul,

maybe you're too busy to upload it in 'high quatliy',

or maybe Youtube has changed their rules to filter 'high quality' video,

  • be on the safe side, try this:

    640 x 480 x MPEG4 x H.264 x MP3 audio, etc

  • The problem is you tube's encrypter ruins quality video. There is higher quality video on there website.

  • awesome as always

  • im a walrus, goo goo gujub... SPPPPPPFFFTTT!!

    LOLOLOLOLOLOLMAO

  • The first minute and a half wasted a minute and a half of my life. Time = money.

  • And just how much money were you going to be making surfing youtube for videos anyways? I mean, if you had money to make, you wouldn't be screwing off on the internet.

Unless, of course, you separated yourself from your money making activities just to watch Indy-Mongul. In which case, I can't imagine the work you were doing was all that profitable to begin with.

The short of it is, your time appears to be near worthless so reimbursing you for 1.5 minutes would be a waste of effort.

  • not available ;(

  • thanks for the awesome tips!

  • I agree. A Premiere Pro CS3 vid would be great, or a vid just about color correction (1 area where I still need to work on) which would be the same principles on both.

I know FCP is the standard, but a few weeks ago I had a chance to compare FCP side-by-side with the newest version of Premiere, and Premiere seemed to have more features and took less work to create the same scene.

  • really helpfull

  • That guy in the iPod is Allan Kaufman from Meth Minute 39

  • Thanks, Bill. I just wish someone would do a tutorial for Adobe Premiere Pro or Adobe Encore.

  • You're welcome. :)

I agree with you that looking into doing tips for other platforms/systems is a good idea. There are a lot of people who use Vegas or Windows Movie Maker or whatever comes with PCs, and I think those are largely overlooked.

In this case, I was asked to do an episode, and the system that I use is FCP. I tried to be as universal as possible with tips on how to use scopes and color correction filters, but yes, a lot of it was specific to FCP.

    Cheers!

  • You're welcome. Those are definitely good ideas, tutorials for other platforms.

  • due he is using mac osx tiger (wow)

  • When you're running an editing system on a computer, it's not smart to upgrade until A) you have a GOOD reason to, such as new features that are only available with the next OS, and B) everybody else does it first so you can benefit from their bug reports on the forums.

There are no benefits relevant to FCP in upgrading to the next OS, yet there are lots of people that needed to uninstall after running into system errors.

  • Dude i have that same stopwatch/ light combo

  • Nice brunette on the bench. Yum!

  • i'd let her stimulate my package...god i wonder how many people typed that on here

  • You guys are going to make me start learning my Final Cut software, aren't you.

  • final cut is the standard for all the big studios, there are all mac based

  • Great Job's all!!

And I finally I know Who Bill C is, Cause he's on like ever Friends list on the internet.

Great Job Bill C, Congrats on the Emmy.

  • lolol Thanks, weker1! :)

    Cheers! :D

  • which final cut pro? 6 or 4

  • How'd you guys get Billy Dee Williams on the show?

  • 355th veiw! and 50th comment!

  • you must be so proud

  • brilliant, fcking brilliant!

  • lol nice.

  • steve nelson is not funny at all..

he's so slow and tries too hard.

  • I challenge you to a race.

    - steve nelson

  • LOL The End

  • lol, great episode, but i dont have a mac.

  • well that was pretty basic

  • yea if you want to get into media get a Mac

  • U ROCK STEVE

  • Nice Work, Steve!!! :D

  • Forget about pcs if your going to video edit. get a mac

  • well thats just a lie.

  • Another tip: Get to the point, guys!

You have 2:06 of filler before you actually start delivering what's in the subject line. That's a full 3rd of the running time, and half as long as the actual content!

Imagine if a 90-minute movie had 30-minutes of opening credits...

  • Steve was setting up the new premise to 4MFS, I think we can cut him a little slack this episode. It's not like it took away from the 4 minutes of educational content anyway.

  • If that's the case then they should add that to the title. "Editing tips plus a not-too-funny comedy bit where I talk to a stopwatch and find an ipod with a talking guy."

As you can see, that makes the video sound a lot less appealing. When an accurate description of your video sounds unappealing, that usually means you need to cut it down to an interesting subject and focus the video as much as you can on that subject.

I'm only pointing this out BECAUSE it's supposed to be about editing.

  • Sheesh, cry me a river. It's simply an introduction to the show. If you can't handle being presented with a premise...then maybe you should take this up with whoever invented stories and plots.

  • It's not an introduction, it's unrelated material.

  • And to respond to your 90-minute movie comparison...it's more like the first 30 minutes being the first act of the three part arch. Which most movies follow. So, if you want to make that comparison...I'd say I followed the rules pretty well.

As far as it not being funny goes, well, you can't please everyone all of the time...or even anyone all of the time. But I'm satisfied with it and I wouldn't cut it down a bit.

  • No, because the first 30 minutes ARE the movie. That's what you came to see. People come here to see editing tips from an Emmy-winner. This beginning is not that in any way, shape or form. Do you see?

  • nice indy keep it up

  • EGarrett just suck it up

  • That's brilliant. Why don't we replace all film instruction with just adding "suck it up!" to the credits. That way no one learns anything, right? Right?

  • if only if they had used sony vegas 7

  • So this was about editing but there was nothing in it related to editing?

Love the show guys keep up the great work. Mac is the wrong way to go long live pc!!!! :)

  • dont you be talking about my love i kill pcs

  • Thats why you fail!!! :P

  • Thats why you fail!!! :P

  • My god I can't wait to get a macbook pro.. But I won't get it in like a year or two...

But in that time I'll keep watching IndyMogul

It's funny as hell and useful!

  • Final cut was the industry standard for a while until about 4 years ago. Now it's Avid you see in the credit reels a lot and I hope it becomes standard because its a Pc program :p but right now it's a battle for who is going to take the industry.

  • pcs suck

  • i dont use final cut pro but it looks very similar to AE

  • yea as steve said in a previous episode.

If your going to be making videos, you should get a mac.

    besides final cut is awesome

  • you're cool!

  • I love indymogul!! you help so much! lol nice video!

  • lol

  • Nice tips, but this wasn't much help as that was specific to only one program. Still good though.

  • final cut is becoming the standard.

  • Well there are loads of programs. I have sony vegas which is good, then there's all the Adobe editing programs. Anyway Final cut pro is only for mac isn't it, so I dobt it will be standard given how many people still use PC.

  • I used to have Adobe actually and I really liked it for some things. I don't know, it seems like more and more film students are used to final cut. I haven't used Sony Vegas, how is it?

  • i use vegas 8 pro, and i like it alot, but i would like to get used to final cut cause i know that is getting more and more popular.

  • Sony vegas is good. Well it's good enough for me, it's easy to use and you can get good results. I bought it because it came out on top in a test on a technology show.

  • It would be nearly impossible to cover tips for every program out there in one show. Something to think about for future episodes, however. We can only use what we have at our disposal as well, and we're editing on Macs with FCP.

  • AHAHAHA XDD niice song haha

  • This is the best episode you've ever had!!!!!!!!

  • Nice!

  • Shit its so hard!

  • Why is it that they assume that everybody has Final Cut Pro? I wonder if some of that stuff would translate to Vegas.

  • Because that's what most have, apparently...

  • I edited on PCs for nearly all of my homebrew video production life. However when I got a job in this field, the defacto thing to use was a Mac and FCP. Better to learn on that as soon as possible, because if you want to move on in the industry, you'll be using it.

  • Exactly, though it seems a lot of Film Productions are still cut with Avid. But the price tag on Avid is insane. With the popularity of FCP and if Mac keeps pushing it could very well become industry standard in the very near future. Best to learn FCP, Avid (if you have access to it), and even Premiere though I haven't run in to it that much outside of my own work.

  • many of the tools are pretty universal, yet, if you are a keen proffesional movie editor who wants to work for an editing company, you should probably look into getting final cut, because that is the widely accepted industry standard.

  • nice video!

  • nice :D

  • Awesome :)

  • Damn thought i got first post (but i did have first view!)

  • yea it is

  • Nice (First Post And View)

  • AWESOME

  • Damn that sh!t looks hard.
