@issofunky Devin Townsend makes heavy music, not deep music. He wrote a concept album about an alien who comes to earth to find the ultimate cup of coffee. Not deep, just good. Don't get me wrong, I like Muse, but a band that uses piano and sings in falsetto isn't exactly the same time of music.

I wouldn't say his music is lacking in depth compared to most contemporary artists, though. As far as I know, his sense of ambiance as a sort of hidden driving force behind his music is unparalleled.

Also, b/c he likes to joke around and have fun doesn't mean there isn't any kind of serious analysis in there (or anywhere else in his huge back catalogue).

Holy shit... that drum intro sounded like Mike Portnoy waking up in the morning. Excellent intro. and awesome song. DT is awesome and they're all well trained musical geniuses. Hey, I'm a huge fan of ALL of Devin's work, whether it's the obvious brilliance in his work with Strapping, or his deviation from critical expectations with the DTB or the DTP or even his simply solo work. He's by far one of the most talented metal musicians in the business today, if not THE most talented. I know I'm going to love Deconstruction.
