WHATS NEXT? WELFARE, DRUGS, BLACK ON BLACK CRIME WAR, POLICE STATISM? YOURE DOOMED AND ITS TOO LATE TO BACK TRACK....BUT ITS NOT TOO LATE TO TRY...I APPLAUD YOU
Being a good Englishman, what were you doing in Mexico? You should be holidaying at Brighton Beach. I hear the pebble beach & overcast skies are lovely ;-D
Actually Europe isn't designed for us, if it was Europeans wouldn't have to spend so much time is solariums to get adequate vitamin D - something we get in 5 minutes per day here.
Does it make the dog a Messiah? I think you would have to expell all your Pakistani, Indian & West Indian first to make room for all us Aussies - somehow I don't think they would be too happy. BTW Australia's indiginous population migrated here 60,000 years ago just as people in Europe migrated there. Do we all have to return to Africa???
Move back to Europe? It sucks to live there as its already overcrowded. Anyway I was born here as were my parents & grandparents. I am not English, I am Australian.
Australians should be proud. Not all nations and people can do this... Such a contrast compared to Japan/Japanese who still deny their approximately 50 years of Rampage throughout Asia in the early 2oth century and continue to whitewash history and try to portray themselves a the victims of WWII...
I had a tear in my eye watching these videos. A truly fantastic approach by the leader of our amazing country. I have a feeling we might actually make a difference here.
I hope so too. But actions speak louder than words. Finke is a classic example where the drastic step of banning alchohol and petrol and got rid of all the scum bags. It worked for the better. But if we did that again we would be called racist. In five years time we will still be where we are today. And we will wonder what we can do about it.
When the Japanese will apologize to us----Chinese! For killing my fellows during Nanjing massacre, for raping girls of my country, for exporting SKII with poisonous ingredients, for not apologizing since the surrender in year 1945, for not giving any compensation to those victims of the bio weapon and for being raped by Japanese men? When? When will be hear this apology for their confession of their crimes?
Rather humorous isn't it. I mean when you think about, if this was worthy of an apology then shouldn't England being doing a whole lot of apologizing? Yes probably, but it's not going to happen. This was a little bit different, it's hard to explain, but this apology was important I think.
Oh yes well said indeed. The obvious question is why not have said "sorry" in Wiluna or Halls creek where it could have been appreciated. At least now we will see the end of all of the problems of this "proud race" (child abuse, petrol sniffing, alcohol abuse etc). But what really shocked me was that most of the people at apology ceremonies (with tears streaming down their faces) were whiter than Michael Jackson and too young to have been stolen! What's the deal with that?
This proud race has been diminished by the policies of previous governments including Aboriginal people being removed from their families - this has been one of the causes of people abusing alcohol, sniffing petrol etc. In terms of the colour of people's skin, many Aboriginal children were taken from their parents exactly because their skin was light - the government thought they could be brought up as "white" and forget their Aboriginality. Obviously it didn't work. Learn your history.
It certainly didnt work. Because no matter what anyone did they still took on the worst traits of both races. There is no doubt that traumatic events can be blamed for some problems but not the epedemic we see now. If saying sorry helps I'm all for it but I think that unless action is taken it will have been all for nothing. Do you have any suggestions?
One idea would be to offer free degrees for teachers & doctors, etc. They would be contracted to work in remote aboriginal towns for a period of time after they graduate & have to pay back with interest if they break the contract.
I have a doctor friend who tells me they tried that. The problem is not getting them free degrees (we do that now), the problem is getting them to go to school up until year 12.
I meant free degrees for any Australian willing to spend time helping these communities. Part of the degree could include learning the language & social aspects of the community before working there.
Oh right. Well that's been tried as well but the uptake is still very short. The big issue is that most educated people want to live in the city. Most doctors I have met in the bush are only there out of a sense of moral obligation. Doctors (like most people earning 90-120k p.a (plus)) aren't motivated by the dollars as much as lifestyle. When one works in the bush, the onslaught of the drunk, stoned and abused becomes too much. So they do their time and move back to civilization. I did.
This post (kelpend555) is an example of the festering sore on the soul of white Australia. An almost rabid (sometimes verging on murderous) contempt for Aboriginal people. Many white Australians have for so long been free to express these sentiments without rebuke that they openly express them without the slightest attempt to veil them. Its something akin to the open racism once expressed in the southern states of the US.
What are you on about? I fully support the apology if it actually makes a difference. But what really matters is approaching the issues and doing something about them. You have derided me with your benign vitriol, without making any meaningful contribution, or even approaching the issues. What part of my comment is contemptuous, verging on murderous?. It is YOU who the apology is aimed at. Because like YOU, Rudd has uttered many words but has not covered the real issues, or taken any action.
I really don't think this apology is enough to make up for the Stolen Generation. It just seems like there's a lot more that they can do besides say sorry.
Its not enough to make up for the stolen generation , yes, but there is nothing that can make up for it. Kevin Rudd is not trying to make up for what has happened in the past. What this event signifies is that Aborigines as a race can begin to heal and this day represents the starting point for a better future for our indigenous people.
