Yes, this movie is based on an actual occurrence by a group of assholes, but let's not pretend that's all this movie is about. Saw the film and it wasn't even entertaining. Predictable and over the top characters, not believable. Depalma tries to do a remake of his "Casualties of War" film that starred Penn and Fox in 1988. Difference was this film uses C-rate actors and not one likable, believable or sympathetic character which the 1st film had. Too much one-sided anti-war preaching to the audience.

He wants to bring the troops home, end the fighting, and end the death, on both sides. Brian De Palma has wasted his efforts in making the movie and not doing anything to stop the occupation of Iraq. It would have been a WHOLE LOT better if he had taken on the Bush government directly instead of making a pointless movie.

Saw the film and it wasn't even entertaining. Predictable and over the top characters, not believable. Depalma tries to do a remake of his "Casualties of War" film that starred Penn and Fox in 1988. He never faced any charges. I am tired of people like YOU trying to pretend like nothing bad happens in war, calling those who criticize an illegal war that has killed nearly 4000 Americans and countless Iraqis unpatriotic.

Your friend wouldn't have been killed if this unjust war had not been started, he wouldn't have been sent to Iraq to die if Bush hadn't lied about WMDs, Imminent threats to the U.S. and Saddam's nonexisten ties to Al Qaeda. It is a shame that American soldiers are dying in a war that was unnecessary, and a shame that innocent Iraqis are killed as well...

There is enough propaganda in favor of the war coming out of the white house and Fox News. I get sick and tired of conservatives claiming that someone "hates the troops" or is "unpatriotic" because they want to point out the atrocities that can and DO clearly happen in war. If all we saw was the evil the other guys do, and the great things that we do, we couldn't really evaluate what the war truly costs. But go ahead and believe that war doesn't hurt innocent people...

To say that this movie was made "about bad soldiers for wanting to lose the war" is an argument based on a false presumption. Depalma wants to end the war, not lose the war. He wants to bring the troops home, end the fighting, and end the death, on both sides. Increasing awareness about the realities of what can and do happen in a war, realities that clearly include rape, murder, and more is not wrong, it is necessary.

After all, if they had believed it was worth giving up their lives for, wouldn't they have done it? While I am sure they didn't like Saddam, he kept their country under control, prevented the civil war that we started, and had a much more civilized country(before we destroyed it in the 1st Gulf War) than most other neighboring countries. He ruled with an iron fist, no doubt. But relatively few people felt his wrath compared to the invasion that has killed so many.

The final point is this: Why do we as a country have a right to say what a 2000 year old civilization should have as their form of government? Perhaps the "freedom and democracy" we spread isn't really appropriate for the entire world, or perhaps not at this time. Who are we to shove it down their throats? The only sound statistical study suggest 1.4 million Iraqis have died due directly or indirectly to the US invasion. And now the US is spreading cholera by making chlorine hard to get.
Between the two Gulf Wars the US was responsible for about another 400,000 children dead.
It is fast approaching attempted genocide, which some of the people on top are obviously aiming for, under cover of bringing "democracy" and the rest.

The fact that this movie is so controversial speaks volumes about its timeliness... Waiting to criticize a government for its mistake until after it corrects that mistake is fairly pointless in my opinion...I think Depalma is trying to help you avoid your 3rd-10th tours...

it is a shame the seals died. that doesn't make it right to kill the shepherd, or the troops would have to kill anyone that could possibly tell on them, which means that many innocent people would have to die. An ideal situation would be to control them in some other way to keep the forces safe, but not to kill innocent people to do it, we should be there to help them, not kill them. Our values as Americans demand better behavior, and they should.

If I was the shepherd, I would have done the same thing if a foreign military was in our country, ...These soldiers did the right thing, and it cost them their lives, which is terrible. If we are to make a smart choice about the war, we must know its true cost. We shouldn't be censored, we need to know what contractors do when they kill innocent people, and soldiers when they kill innocent people, we need to see the pictures of our servicement coming back in coffins(which they no longer allow) and the pictures of the pain we cause the Iraqis and others. It is far to easy now to ignore the consequences of our actions.

You need to understand what motivates our enemies, for instance, Osama Bin Laden said the attacks on 911 were motivated by our support for Israel, our military bases in the middle east, the deaths caused by the sanctions in Iraq, our general interference in the region, etc. Every death our gov't is responsible for is a recruiting tool.
