Response to chromeninjar3d below: It is not giving money to the church that saves us, for sure. We need Jesus Christ to save us from our sins. We do not give money to the church to be saved from hell. We give money because we are expressing our gratitude to Jesus for saving us.
i have a step dad who keeps religiously giving a large sum of money to the church, and i have seen little or no progress in his life......... i think what he's doing is very stupid. i dont think he needs to keep chasing after the pastor's money demands on-demand, for no smart reason whatsoever..? if something will come out of it, then so be it - I've learned. but if not, i know what not to do.
You are right that the gentile Christians were not instructed to follow the law as recorded in the results of the Jersualem council in Act 15:19,20 "Therefore it is my judgment that we do not trouble those who are turning to God from among the Gentiles, but that we write to them that they abstain from things contaminated by idols and from fornication and from what is strangled and from blood." You will find all the moral laws repeated in the NT but not the ceremonial laws. Thanks.
Hi Newhomeprograms. Thanks for your comments. To answer your question, " How did he know to do this if there was no law unil Moses who came more than 400 years later?" I would say... God probably communicated it directly to them. We knew that He spoke to Adam and Eve directly after the fall in Genesis Chapter 3 prior to Cain and Able's sacrifices. Hope that is helpful. You are right about faith... it is what causes our actions.
Tithing came before the Law and before Jews existed. Same as Offerings. The first offering came by Faith through a Gentile "Any human who is not of Jacob" Able and Cain. Tithing came through Abraham the father of Faith and the father of Jews and Gentiles. Later Jacob swore to Tithe. How did he know to do this if there was no law unil Moses who came more than 400 years later? No man will give to GOD without Faith. Instead he will find ways to justify why NOT to give, for lack of Faith.
Part 1 - You are right. The is no command to ignore the tithe in the NT. As a matter of fact there are only two verses (Mt:23:23 and Lk 11:42) which even mention it. Actually these are references to the same instance in two different gospel accounts. There are many OT laws which were not repeated in the NT which Christians are not obligated to follow such as ones on animal and grain offerings for sin and keeping the Sabbath.
@TrueRiches Study Hebrews Chapters 7 - 13. It explains why we no longer follow the Old Covenant ceremonial laws which included tithes. Hebrews was written to the Jews who converted to Christianity but were still following Old Covenant laws. Also, please understand that Gentile converts to Christianity were never instructed to follow Old Covenant laws. GOD Bless!!!
Part 2 - These laws typically were laws which were cultural things based on the nation of Israel. All of the moral laws (don't steal, don't bear false witness, etc ) were all repeated in the NT. The command to tithe is not repeated but the command to give is given. The NT standard is actually much higher than merely the tithe (10%) and the examples of giving are much more sacrificial - Acts 4, 2 Cor 8 and 9. Hope this is helpful.
@TheJoshuaCarnes What's good bro? Let me ask you a question, or some questions: Who was the tithe for? Did the Levites offer up a tithe as well? Is the tithe of the law of Moses, and if so, are we to follow it? So be it bro, in love. Christ bless you.
Hi, what an important question! Just today I released a new video on that subject. Please watch the video, maybe it will properly answer your question. If not, please send me another message and I will try to address it.
