After playing the Mod for a couple of hours and winning the grand campaign with Gondor I can honestly say that this mod is one of the best I have played in a long time. I really liked the attention to detail, the unit selection and the way that Sauron acts like the pope ordering an invasion aka crusade against certain cities. Iam missing a bit more of the LotR music and visible upgrades for infantry, other then that its just some minor tweaks here and there, combined with bugs from the original.

Its so sad that i need the kingdoms addon. I only got the game, without the addon. I can not buy the addon on steam because i got the cd version of the game and the mod is not available for the later total war games. I got every total war game wit hevery addon, except for medieval total war kingdoms. Iam not willing to pay 10$ for a game on steam that i allready have, i only want the addon.

I would have never bought a game twice for 10€ just to get the addon which costs 5€, thats just stupid. Companies earn money by bundeling stuff that noone needs, or many people dont need and discontinue upgrade options. I will not support such behavior, like i do not support day one DLC for videogames.

The best mod ever created. Two months ago I decided to revisit Medieval II after becoming increasing pissed off with Empire & Steam. That's when I discovered this little gem. To say it's revolutionary is underestimating it, as I've been unable to eat, sleep or go to work. This is an awesome mod, but one thing. The elves need to be nerfed, their elven light infantry have better stats than Uruk-hai infantry? WTF is with that? They completely own me in my Isengard campaign. That just pisses me off. :(

I love Third Age. Its so much more challenging then Regular total war. On Regular total war i just completely sweep and kill the AI, but in Third age the battles are always much more costly. :D

medieval 2 is fucking worthless. this mod looks great but then you get to a simple battle and you cant send your troops to attack a mob of 300 units throwing javelins at them. instead, they decide to fucking sit there and send one soldier at a time, and while they are sitting there having 300 javelins hurled at them per 3 seconds your elite unit of soldiers is dead in a span of 15 seconds. fucking garbage AI.

I'll clear up something about the mod and why everyone should be interested in it in the future. The next version 3.0, coming out later this year features custom settlements in actual battles. These settlements will be Minas tirith, Edoras,The Hornburg(helms deep),Moria, Isengard, Minas Morgul, Rivendell, The black gate,Dol Guldur and specialised elven and orc settlements. So the mod only gets better. Cant wait !!!

animations: (lotrw has new animations and movements for all units)

settlements: third age as you mentioned as far as i know

heros: if third age total war features heros in custom map than it's better

beasts: well third age has a balrog but the beast on lotrw as i said have new animations with new attacks deaths and so on

and all the patches. When I launch the game I press on M2TW and after some seconds an error screen pops up & says something that I can't run the game.

sure there is. you just have to set it yourself in the main game option right before you start a new campaign. (if you always want to be you own preferred unit size you have to make sure your medieval.preferences.cfg or the third_age.cfg is not write protected when you change it.)

I'm happy to say that come version 2.2 we're likely to see the new completely custom-modeled Minas Tirith/Pelennor Fields Battle map! Not sure about the Hornburg, but yeah, this is one of those super high class mods that comes around and end up being better than the real game (CS for Half Life, or Desert Combat for BF1942). Absolutely must-play for anyone who likes LOTR. The vanilla game ain't half bad either!

You need to install the mod in the correct medieval 2 total war folder. I installed it in a copied mtw2 folder and then it wouldn't work, got it working later though.

Yes, all MTW 2 mods go into their own folders and do not effect MTW2 games or other mods. bear in mind you need the Kingdoms expansion to play this fantastic mod.
