How does one explain 23... bxa6? Talk about giving your opponent what he wants on a plate. 31. Rf7 wins a piece to 31... Be4 (not Qc8?, which loses almost immediately) 32. Rxf8, Rxf8, 33. Qxe4. Better for white, as indicated, was 31. Rxg7.
not to take anything away from Topalov but his opponent made a mess out of the grunfeld defense. And he knows it. After 9 moves black has no space at all. He should have gone for the exchange variation so that black has no open c file wich he used so well here. Anyway, book or not retreating that knight on b6 looks to be against any chess principle, and it was proven misplaced. Nice videos.
i know where u are going with ur comment but i will make it clear 4 anyone watching this in the future since u did not spell it out. topalovs opponent made a mess becayse chepa (black here) is his second and wanted to help him win the tournament. cheparinov does topalovs openings he would not play this badly, he just gave topa the game. topalov team plays dirty. topa almost screws it up then he plays 23..bxa6??? what a joke. no gm would play that move or even consider it.
Really enjoyed this commentary. It was certainly a very tactical and exciting game, but questions will always be asked about Topalov competing against his second in tournaments...
Topalov is a beast! That was an excellent game. Topalov did not move his bishop till late in the game...wow...it would be nice to be able to play like that someday. Thanks for the video, please keep them coming, cheers.
I'm new to chess and this was great to see! Is the name of this opening called topalov?

not having space is not such a bad thing. Have you never played computers?

Wow- to be able to smash a 2696 player to pieces all over the board like that- fantastic stuff from Topalov.
