I have a version from 1987 where Stevie plays along with Tommy Shannon's bass lick.......the version in 1987 is actually his first time performing it live....if anybody wants to hear it I'd be happy to send it to them
Love, Love, Love, Loved it! This was one of the BEST 'still- videos' of Stevie Ray and Double Trouble. Regardless of 'the kinks'- this video hit right on. The song was performed with such passion, the kind that never dies. Love and Miss Ya Stevie!
Oh, I love this version. It's raw and unpolished! Great! Thanks so much for posting this. The photos are great as well. Will always and forever love Stevie.
It seems all the good musicians are dead, undiscovered, old, winding down their carriers, or partailly retired...now were left with a big steaming pile of hanna montana and jonas brothers pop rock crock...god they can suck my cock....let's bring back some "real" music to this country !!!
keep in mind this was right when they started on this song. This well before it was released on "In Step". Yeah it still had some kinks, but I also think this is how all songs start.
never seen many of these photos of srv before ..that is cool. this version of the song isnt nearly as good as many of the others I heard. heard him play this much better in the other versions
4:07 i think is a gibson les paul, although it could be gibson's guitar before the les paul, which i always forget the name of, im a fender guy not gibson, but to me it looks like what gibson is calling "the les paul classic" has the pickguard on it.
lol if you want Steveys sound then the heavier the better, but youd have to have the thickest, strongest bad ass fingers on the planet. I love stevey but it just doesnt suit my style, i use 9 guage, Elixrs, XLs... or sometimes fender bullets.
Fantastic..!! Going through this to play live with my band and this version is inspirational...Real raw and pure. SRV's teh man..!!!

Comparing this version with the later, shows how Stevie could take a cool song and make it go WOW!

This is a classic piece of audio. It shows how a song needs to mature before the Band will be satisfied.

This version is awesome!
It sounds dirty and has a lot of crunch to it.
Stevie with a Les Paul at 4:04, that was so cool.
