Disco sucked in '78 and '79, and it would suck now if it were still around. Starship (and Airplane) had been making music a long time before disco was even thought about. And what would anyone from that era want to listen to today? Disco or Marty Balin singing Count on Me? I think everyone knows the answer to that. So, to say they should have gone with the flow and made something of themselves was pretty ridiculous. They continued to make even more good music in the '80's. Disco? It DIED.
@mlbinseattle Yea I was just trolling, actually this is a hauntingly good song written by the same guy who wrote Balin's song Hearts a few years later. Starships' background vocals make a good hook in this. But to suggest 80's Starship was the same as the mid 70's lineup is ridiculous. Kantner and Balin had left the group, and the coked up, drunken remains in the 80's incarnation were nothing like the original.
They were behind the times in '78, everything was about disco and there they were still loitering around like '70-era hippies. Good music but they should have put on white bellbottoms and gold chains and gone with the flow and they might have made something of themselves.
Apparently there is also a recording of "Miracles" done same time and place as this recording, as I just saw a clip of it on a Time-Life ad, but I can't seem to find it anywhere. Anybody got that one???
Wonderful to see them by themselves, no thousands of screaming concert goers, no studio recording. Maybe they preferred the feedback they got from the big stadium shows, but I like the way Starship looks here, a bunch of guys and Grace Slick singing for themselves.
You can see his lisp. With that "handicap," he sings better than anyone could. Beautiful. It looks like a San Francisco love-in in a love den. Grace Slick provided the love for, what, 6 guys? Can I go back? It seems like its from about 1972.
Disco stunk! It didn't last long!

is that Nicky on piano? awesome! Great version of this song, more like the way I sing it than the studio version is.

I remember hearing this song when it first came out and I was totally lost in it as a young boy, now as a middle aged man, I still love it!
